Very clear, illustrated instructions to help even me, a novice, draw cute designs. I definitely will benefit from this book and will be practicing drawing the examples.

I love the unique style of the author/artist. The book made me smile a lot and brightened my mood.

Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster Publishing and NetGalley for allowing me to read the advance reader copy, with no obligation to write a review. My review is written freely as a hobby, and is totally my own opinion, not influenced by receiving the ARC.

Absolutely charming! I loved this one, the illustrations and instructions are clear and approachable. There is a greater level of detail in the authro/illustrator's style than is present in many similar books, which tend toward minimalism. Super fun and something I look forward to incorporating into my own art projects as well as sharing with my very creative daughter.

i absolutely loved this guide to drawing! the illustrations were all so adorable. i’ve recently challenged myself to learning how to draw and i think i’ve learned so many wonderful tips from this book. my favorite sections were the bakery and the garden. the illustrations are easy to follow, my only wish was that there was a bit more guidance once we got to the coloring part, but all in all it is a great place for beginners to start!

Gah! I about jumped out of my chair when I saw this on Netgalley, so thank you so much for allowing me to preview this advanced copy of this book, Quarto Publishing.

I have had the German version of Olga Ortiz’s book as long as it’s been released and it is literally always in my bag. Olga’s steps are so visually easy to follow that I adore even a version I can’t read. I have used Google translate when I want to see what insights she has, but it is a pain. I always told her on Instagram, when she releases an English version it’s an instant buy.

I had no idea she was releasing a print English version, but Quarto - you are seriously my hero publishing house! I immediately requested the NetGalley version so I could peruse it AND put in my request for the English version.

I recommend the version book to my English speaking friends all the time and can’t wait to shove this in hands as swiftly as possible. It will be in many gift baskets.

Thank you for this amazing book!!

This book is so cute! I have absolutely zero drawing skill but this guided me through in a way that made it easy and accessible- and left me drawing super adorable muffins and sushi. A great intro to someone who is interested in sweet illustration while also learning some fundamental drawing skills.

Let me start by saying, I am not an artist. However, this very cute and colorful book had me trying to draw things I never thought I could. Now, I am not going to draw the next masterpiece, however, I will definitely be able to play a mean round of Pictionary.
I want to thank Olga Ortiz and Walter Foster Publishing for providing me an ARC copy of this book on NetGalley.

"Sweet Drawing" excels in guiding you on a journey to uncover your unique artistic style. From the moment you open this book, you're treated to an intimate glimpse into Olga Ortiz's distinctive artistic world, a refreshing and inspiring experience in itself.

The book begins with a foundation of practical tips that not only prove invaluable for the instructions that follow but also offer universal insights into drawing techniques. One tip that particularly resonated with me was the emphasis on rounding off shapes, lending an irresistibly cute and authentic quality to the artwork. This touch of stylization adds a unique flair to every creation.

Initially, I felt somewhat daunted by the complexity of the images presented in the book. However, Ortiz masterfully breaks down each illustration into manageable steps while offering valuable tips to elevate your drawing skills. This guidance is especially valuable as it transforms your drawings from mere cute pictures to dynamic, movement scenes, illustrating when and how to use them effectively. Furthermore, the author's shading techniques, showcased in the tips section, breathe life into the artwork, imbuing it with depth and dimension – a skill I'm still honing.

One minor drawback I encountered was a longing for more detailed steps on how to further stylize the drawings. While the initial sketches are minimal, the final picture showcases a substantial evolution achieved primarily through shading and coloring techniques. Including more guidance on these transformative processes would have been a valuable addition.

In conclusion, "Sweet Drawing" is a highly recommended resource for those ready to elevate their drawing skills. While it remains accessible to mid-level beginners, it may appear a tad daunting for absolute novices. However, if you're willing to embrace the challenge, this book will serve as a valuable companion on your artistic journey, helping you unlock your unique style and breathe life into your creations. Happy drawing!

Thanks to Netgalley and Quarto publishing group for access to this Arc in exchange for my honest review.

All these little drawings are so cute !! I love how the steps are simplified for those who are not born with artistic talents 🤣 (like me). I've tried a few and the result was not bad at all!!

I found this book did a good job of explaining the process for drawing and filling in the artwork. I particularly enjoyed how Ortiz explained the process for sketching and then drawing darker, including the fact that it is better to use colours rather than a regular pencil for the initial sketch.

From the initial pages straight through to the end, she gives clear instructions for how to draw that are easy to follow and provide enough detail (lots of detail) without being overwhelming for someone just starting out.

I think that, while the instructions are intended for a beginner, there is enough here for someone more advanced to also learn a few things and get some inspiration. I did go into this thinking it would be more Kawaii than it was, because most of the drawings are food without faces, but still a lot of fun.

Oh my goodness! This book is too cute!! I love Olga’s Instagram account so I knew I would adore her book too! I am no artist but I feel like the instruction is fairly clear though there were a few that seemed to jump a step. I wish there was more information about shading and colouring but you can use the illustrations for ideas of course. I especially loved the Cute Animals chapter (squirrels, platypus and koalas being the standouts for me!). I also loved the Bakery section especially the marshmallow with the adorable little face and the strawberry jam. I can’t wait to try more of the cute designs. Definitely a book I will sit down and play around with mores it’s super relaxing to sketch these cute little illustrations.

To preface this review: I am not an artist. By any means. I usually can’t even draw convincing stick figures.

But, I love cute food and items art and was hopeful that this book could help. And it definitely did!

The art style is absolutely adorable and the step by step instructions are easy to follow and definitely are doable by people of all ability levels. The book showcases a variety of little things to draw - from animals to foods to school supplies!

I definitely recommend this for anyone looking to practise drawing!

Thanks very much to the publisher and to NetGalley for providing me with an eARC in exchange for my honest review!
