I've seen Kawaii drawings/cartoons around and wanted to learn how to draw these cute cartoons for a while, so when I saw this book on NetGalley, I couldn't wait to give it a go.
This is a great guide for beginners. It looks challenging at first glance, but every step is broken down and explained clearly. Even a novice drawer like me was able to follow along easily.
I found the reading and learning about the brief history of Kawaii Drawings very interesting.
I still need a lot more practice when it comes to drawing, but I have definitely learned some new drawing techniques.
A very useful guide to have on hand.
This was very fun and informative. I really enjoyed this and it has helped with my drawing practice. My doodles have gotten much better!
This book is beautiful!
It will be a great addition to every young aspiring artist’s collection, there are easy step-by-step tutorials to create your own kawaii drawings. There are suggestions and ideas on how to make it unique, and how to add your own twists and personality to what you draw.
It was fine, just not for me

Kawaii Drawing by Becky Castaneda is so fun! The drawings you can do using her instructions are cute and colorful. I really liked the desert buddies and clouds. The beginning of the book gives some basic drawing instruction and allows readers to use paper/sketch pads or digital mediums to draw the Kawaii designs - I liked this because a lot of drawing books are geared toward paper drawing and I prefer digital (Procreate). I would say this is a fun book for beginners and more advanced artists looking to get into Kawaii-style art.
Kawaii Drawing : Learn to draw more than 100 super cute things is an adorable step by step guide for drawing super cute kawaii style and for adding this style to more basic drawings. It will appeal to children as well as beginners and is so easy to follow that absolutely anyone could have a go. The book is full of colour and great ideas for drawing all sorts of things from food to animals to household objects. Great for a rainy day.
I loved all of the ideas and the stepby instructions that were easy to follow along with. The different tutorials with The proportions use for kawaii drawing make it easy to get creative as well.
A very cute how to draw book. This has a lot of final images with step by step instructions on how to draw it.
Lots of cute girls and scenes in pastel colours.
This is good for beginners and intermediate artists to learn the kawaii style and to implement it into their own art.
This doesn't have anything groundbreaking in it, but it's a well laid out book.
Thank you netgalley for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Great details and instructions. I also loved how the author had photos of her favorite materials and programs she used in the beginning along with if they tended to have a free trial or not. I also enjoyed the layout of this book a lot it flowed very easily. Very easy to follow and draw your own cute characters! Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a step by step introduction for Kawaii style drawings.
Fantastic ideas, that make it so accessible for people with limited artistic abilites! I will defintiely be recommending this to my pupils

One of the standout features of this book was the comprehensive approach to teaching kawaii-style art. It began with an introduction to kawaii for those unfamiliar with the style, allowing me to understand its unique characteristics and charm. So kawaii! It has a lot of useful information and details. I would say that it is for more experienced people rather than beginners, like a step-up challenge. It has examples of girls, animals, tasty food & snacks and nature.
This is the kind of book that always makes me smile.
Tender, entertaining and always a good inspiration for other creations!
I'm really happy Netgalley gives us the chance to see this kind of books, it's something fresh and relaxing to have and see whenever we want, no pressure or big mental commitment.
Thank you so much to Netgalley (and the publisher) for the free book!
Nice book with decent instructions. I found it helpful to learn to draw. Sometimes I wished for more detailed instructions, but I believe anyone who is not total beginner like me will not miss anything.
Love the “tips” throughout the book.
The instructions were a bit more advanced than I was expecting but doable with some practice.
Check out Becky’s Instagram for more inspiration …it’s full of super duper kawaii cuteness.
I was interested in this book as I want o learn to draw and this book is amazing! I love how it breaks everything down and makes such cute little drawings!
I thought that this book did a very good job of introducing the art of Kawaii and providing some really good beginner tips as well as some ideas for more advanced artists. I do feel that it jumps from basics right into fairly challenging draws, so there would be an audience or demographic who would be stretched right from the start and that may put them off. I actually think that the easier instructions were later in the book, so maybe flipping it and building folks up from the basics to the more complicate pieces would be best. I am sure that I can draw the sushi, but the girl in a mermaid outfit would definitely be harder and I'd likely wind up frustrated. These books really appeal to younger school children, so giving them a structure that lets them gain confidence in their abilities, understand the instructions, and play around with some of the basics would probably be a better approach and increase the overall demographic.
All in all, some really cute artwork to draw. Just think that it may be outside the skillset of some people who want to learn Kawaii from the start.
Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for this arc of this book, in exchange for an honest review.
This is a fun little book to start your journey making cute illustrations, it covers usual fundamentals of materials you need to start doodling and making some kawaii art. While I am not new to illustrations, I am new to sharing my illustrations which can be considered kawaii or cute, my art style differs quite a lot from the artist (i don't use monoline lineart and usually have more textures without solid lines) but even then there were many things I could gain from this book, specially how to fill space in an illustration and add many cute elements to make your art pop and give more unique style.
The book follows a brief tutorial about dynamic poses, color palettes, expressions, proportions and then goes to explain it in detail in the many examples that follow. I loved the use of simple shapes to define the pose before proceeding with the details. I already love the artists' many works and enjoyed reading about the process of each illustration.
My kids and I enjoyed this book.
The book is packed with cute Kawaii drawings.
The illustrations were a little more complex than the books we normally follow which was good.
The 'how to pictures were easy to follow.
We highly recommend this book to budding artists of those who just like to draw.
This cute book teaches you how to draw in a kawaii style. It’s quite a short book (57 pages) and has some basic theory initially. After the few pages of basic theory it then has a number of examples broken down into step by step instructions.
I would have liked some more generic theory for drawing in a kawaii style rather than the book focusing solely on a few examples.
I can’t wait to try out what I’ve learnt and see how my art turns out!
