I was not as into this book as I anticipated, possibly due to Jhumpa Lahiri’s decision to write exclusively in another language? I acknowledge Lahiri's talent and past accolades but feel that this collection falls short, particularly in comparison to her earlier works. While some stories effectively explore themes of alienation and culture, they eventually become repetitive and failed to engage me. Overall, I found the collection shallow and difficult to connect with, despite enjoying Lahiri's previous works.

I absolutely loved Jhumpa Lahiri's book In Other Words and am fascinated by the fact that this new book of short stories was written in Italian and then translated into English. Roman Stories was a pleasure to read. I enjoyed the way each story offered a rich and nuanced view of Rome and its inhabitants from a very different perspective. These windows into the experiences -- shared and completely unique -- of different ages, genders, socioeconomic statuses, races, and nationalities really brought the city alive for me.

I am not normally a reader of short stories. I am, however, a huge fan of Jhumpa Lahiri! Each one of these stories is a gem, my only quibble is that each of them weren't a full novel, I could have read more about each and every character,

Jhumpa is a master of short stories and this collection did not disappoint. Her descriptions will immediately transport you to Italy where you will meet a variety of memorable characters, but the true beauty of these stories is the subtle way these tales will tug at the edge of your emotions and wander into your thoughts long after you’re done reading.
Highly recommend!
