This is such a fun blend of mystery and fantasy, and especially enjoyable on audio!
In this book, Cat & Simon have fled their home and are posing as husband and wife in Londonium, where Cat is hoping to learn healing magic at the Selanae university, and one of the highlights of this one for me was getting to learn more about Cat's magic, the world, the politics and how all of it comes together to effect the murder mystery. This gives big Stalking Jack the Ripper vibes, but make it fantasy (and with a bit less charm in terms of the romantic relationship, but I do still quite like Cat & Simon!)
I really enjoy the audiobook narrator and how she differentiates different characters voices, its very easy to imagine them all being different people. This book was similar to Blood & Moonlight with all of the twists and turns, and I imagine that them all sounding the same would have undermined the story and the way the different characters and their motivations charged everything.
Ultimately I definitely recommend this series for fans of blended fantasy and mystery! The characters are charming, the world is complex and different but not so much so that it makes it difficult to follow or understand on audio, and the twists in the mystery always take me by surprise. Thank you to Macmillan Audio for the early audiobook copy of this title!

Silence and Shadow by Erin Beaty was everything I needed it to be. This story kept the wonderful atmosphere from Blood and Moonlight but actually had the details and world building I missed out on in book one. This story picks up soon after the first book left off and hits the ground running. It doesn't really recap anything from the first book so make sure you read it before getting into this one. I loved the murder mystery in this and how full of magic it was. The fake marriage was sadly lacking because there wasn't much chemistry between the main characters but that's alright because I was more interested in the murder than the romance for this one. Overall this is definitely a must read if you enjoyed Blood and Moonlight or like magical thrillers.

I am officially obsessed with this series. I have no idea if we’ll get a third book because the ending of this one is satisfying, but also just the right amount of open for another story if the author wants to go there AND I WOULD NOT BE MAD IF WE GOT MORE.
Our main characters are back to solving gruesome murders and finding their way alongside magic, but this time under the guise of a fake marriage and in a new city.
The medieval world and magical system created is just as incredible as the first book and I really enjoyed the new characters in Londonium. The magic politics has us on the edge of our seats as we navigate who we can and can’t trust. And the romance is SO GOOD.
Ugh I hate that I’m already done reading and can’t wait to reread these soon! I absolutely recommend the audio if you enjoy listening.

This was a great sequel and I really enjoyed the continuation of this story. This was the perfect book to listen to in order to start spooky season.
