I am always looking for nonfiction nature books to add to my children's library that allow them to really explore a topic in depth, and this book is perfect for that. There is a lot of information in here for children to learn! My children (at 4 and 5) are still a bit young for this one, but it will be one that we add to our library as they grow.

I used to love spotting monarchs with my dad while growing up in the Northeast. Now, it's a very rare occurrence. The Monarch Effect is a mystery of a different sort: this book examines the life cycle of the monarch butterfly and its impact on the environment. I appreciated the advanced information available in this book; it does not talk "down" to students while still being at an accessible level. For budding biologists--recommended for purchase at middle level.

Thank you for the opportunity to review the ARC of this book.

Our twins are almost 6 and love watching the entire life cycle of the monarch butterfly. While some of the science stuff was a little
Advanced for them, they loved learning more about monarchs.

This is a great book for the budding scientist in your house.

Thank you for the opportunity to preview this title before publication. The Monarch Effect is a fascinating look at the plight and promise of the monarch butterfly. Perfect for middle grade readers interested in the natural world, it covers how early scientists tracked monarchs, discovered their migration routes, and uncovered their overwintering grounds. It also covers their feeding practices, protective measures against prey, and overall development. The book doesn’t shy away from discussing the challenges of sustainability, including how protecting monarch overwintering grounds has led to unanticipated impacts on communities already using the land. Includes some images and extensive back matter. Recommended.
