A little adventure story about some kids who get stuck on a patch of ice and encounter penguins, a little shack, and conflict with each other, all before finding their way back home. The illustrations are very pretty, and the story takes liberty in whether or not the “adventure” is real or imaginary (one might guess imaginary because of how fantastical the events are, but who knows?) this would be a fun activity to play with kids and reenact, or to tell them an exaggerated story from your childhood and get them to pick out the truth in it. Fun, for someone who gets harsh Kentucky winters for which there are all 4 seasons in 1 day, but has never been to the arctic.

I had a blast reading this children’s book which was translated into English from Swedish. What a lovely tribute to a child’s imagination which we lose as we grow up. This gives the reader an adventure filled with both danger plus the need to cope with boredom at times. Like all the best imaginary adventures, this one brings all three kids home safe at the end.
