This book was a surprisingly enjoyable read, with a storyline that pulled me in more than I expected. The characters felt genuine, and the pacing kept things moving without dragging. It wasn’t just entertaining—it had a few moments that really made me stop and think.

this book made me care about sports!!! i LOVED the two main characters and thought their romance was really sweet

The Prospects is a sweet queer sports romance. It has some good tension by using a former friend and now teammates dynamic. I liked that it also discussed mental health issues and the complex ways someone may identify.

Very cute — I really enjoyed this and I loved the way Gene's transness is integrated into this book. It felt so true to who he is and it was so wonderful to see him accepted for exactly who he was. This is going to make me a baseball fan!

4.5 stars
I love stories that center hope and optimism and joy, especially when they're queer stories! The Prospects does that in a way that feels honest, true, and possible.
Gene is the most chaotically optimistic person I've read and I love him for it. He is unapologetically himself the whole time, flaws and fears and wants and all of it. He's gay, he's trans, he's neurodivergent (ADHD), he's an athlete. Luis is a darling with his anxiety and quiet support. I loved seeing their relationship bloom and grow, watching them settle into themselves. It's a very queer experience to give yourself permission to want things that someone like you hasn't achieved before and KT Hoffman captured it brilliantly.
If you're like me -- not a baseball fan AT ALL -- don't let that stop you from reading this book. Yes, baseball is a huge part of Gene's life and story but it's done in such a way that even total noobs can understand. I never felt lost or bored by it. It's unpredictable and demands optimism in the face of uncertainty. It's perfectly Gene and perfect for him.

Cuties. Such amazing characters and thoughts in this book. Some of the most poignant and intimate lines I’ve ever read were in these chapters. Would absolutely read more about them or from this author.

tried to read this but unfortunately it wasn't my cup.of tea, I couldn't get into the story no matter how much I tried. Dnfed at 40 percent, I'm so sad cause I really thought I'd love this.

This was a great and diverse romance that I was really in love with! Genuinely great book that I loved so much ;0

This is one of my recent favs within the romance genre! I feel like the two main characters were well fleshed out and were super well rounded. I will definitely be checking out future releases from this author!

I absolutely ADORE this book!! It was so cute and beautifully written. Gene and Luis’ relationship is so beautiful and shows the good in life and wanting and being yourself no matter what. I will recommend this book to everyone, I am OBSESSED with it!!

Great debut by this author. If you love baseball romance and queer romance, this story will be right up your alley. Trans and queer representation in romance is not super common, especially in professional baseball, but this story was told with humor and heart and I enjoyed how the story was told and the growth and strength of the characters. what happens when you dare to want something for yourself and not just hope? You may just find the life and love you deserve.

This book made me all warm and fuzzy inside. It was so sweet and I love them so much! I look forward to reading more by this author.

I've read this book multiple times since receiving it, and writing this short review has me wanting to read it again! I absolutely loved The Prospects, the story, and every single character. It's wildly charming, engrossing, and thoughtfully done, and I hope that someday the author chooses to write some kind of sequel because I'd love to spend more time with these wonderful people.

This was such a great LGBTQ romance book with sports involved. i loved it. It made me laugh, cry, smile, feel all the feels.

I loved this sports romance for the regular thigns about the trope and it was very thoughtful and I think real abotu trans and gay love.

The Prospects by KT Hoffman took a little while to hook me, but once it did, I found myself invested in Gene and Luis’s dynamic. The baseball setting is well done, capturing both the grind and camaraderie of minor league life, though at times the pacing felt slow, especially early on. The romance builds gradually, which works in some ways but also made the first half feel a bit meandering. That said, the emotional depth and character development pay off, and the story finds its stride as it goes. It’s a solid read with a unique perspective, even if it didn’t fully knock it out of the park for me.

I didn't enjoy this books as much as I thought I would, but I still liked the story and the characters.
Thank you to the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book.

Okayyyyyy, but is Gene the cutest or what?? I loved this baseball romance story!
I loved how balanced it was. I'm not a huge baseball person and while this had a lot of baseball in it, I didn't feel completely lost while reading it. It also discussed topics regarding the main character being a trans MC and other mental health issues, but it also wasn't super heavy. The chemistry between Gene and Luis was absolutely incredible and I love them so much!
I loved the teammates and the underlying theme of hope throughout the entire story. Overall, it was very cute and adorable!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this eARC in exchange for my honest opinion and review.

The Prospects is such a lovely, fun read. As someone who is not a fan of sports, this was still digestible and enjoyable. The romance was everything I wanted. More gay trans romances please!!

This is one of my favorite books of the year. I love baseball, I love trans stories, and I love sports romances. This was always going to be a ~home run~ for me.
Gene is already well known as the first openly trans Major League Baseball [layer. He loves his minor league team and feels closer every day to his dream of making it to the major leagues… until his former friend and current rival Luis gets traded to Gene’s team. They can’t make it work on the field, and they certainly can’t make it work off the field. But if they both want to get what they’ve always wanted, they’re going to have to learn to be a team, in every possible way.
I loved this book. I don’t even know what more to say. Whenever I think about The Prospects, I get all warm inside and want to immediately start reading the book again. It is the perfect summer read. It will make you want to go to a baseball game, grab a hot dog, and cheer for every glance between players.
This book has heart, charm, and is everything a summer romance should be.
