“Our rendezvous is fitly appointed. God will be there and wait ‘til we come.” - Walt Whitman

This was about the Jesus Movement and a Christian Rock band called Agape. I was born in the late 60’s so I was not apart of this movement but I am from Los Angeles and heard many things. And I still see the effects and remember because it was a special time. Different. When you love like Jesus does people notice. You can’t do anything but take it in. I thought the letters at the end were especially touching. 💗
This was a raw accurate account of their journey and some of it is sad. But we all have a story don’t we? May God bless and remind us of our first love.

Thanks to author, publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book. While I got the book for free it had no bearing on the rating I gave it.

The Birth of Christian Rock by Joe Markko
Wow, what an incredible book. Markko has delivered a phenomenal look at the beginning of Christian rock with the band Agape. Most people have heard of the Jesus Movement in the 60s & 70s without really knowing the details of what really happened. This book drops the reader right into the middle of it.
I really appreciated Markko's sensitivity dealing with the humanness of the people involved with this story, and his ability to focus on the “core” story without digging up too much of the hurt and the pain by leaving certain things vague. It does not distract from the story.

This is a must-read for any listener of Contemporary Christian music and how & where it all started.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and Netgalley.

I was alive and well in the 70s, the beginning of Christian rock. This book was a wonderful look back at my youth.
