This is a great resource for all ages, but especially the younger generation, to clean about climate change, climate activists, and what you can do to help. Every school should be carrying this!

"Climate Activists: A Graphic Guide" by Stephanie Loureiro with illustrations by David Lopez is a graphic novel telling the story of people who want to save the planet.

The book discusses the history of climate activism through diverse people around the world. The different types of activism from peaceful protests and community organizing to lobbying and legal action are shown.

This book covers a lot of ground and that’s part of the problem. It is a good overview, but lacks some depth, but if it sparks further interest, I guess that serves a purpose. The art is functional for this type of nonfiction graphic novel.

"Climate Activists" is a visual and informative guide to the ongoing climate crisis. This graphic novel covers a full range of environmental history surrounding climate change and inclusive eco-activism, starting with the ancient Indus people practicing organized sanitation efforts, all the way through recent activists Greta Thunberg and Shiva Rajbhandari.

The dialogue between characters is a little stiff, but I believe this well thought out and neutral-toned novel would be a great vehicle to deliver scientific facts about climate change and activism to most age groups! Would love to see this used in the classroom.

While far from comprehensive, this is an excellent and eye catching primer for young people interested in climate activism.

A straightforward, descriptive without being catastrophic history of the environmental movement around the world.

As extreme weather, increased economic inequality, resource shortages, and geopolitical crises threaten humanity and other species, there is a palpable urgency to raise awareness and inspire action toward protecting the environment. “Climate Activists: A Graphic Guide” offers young readers an introduction to the history of the environmental movement. Moreover, the graphic novel encourage youth to speak out and become the champions of climate justice.

The climate justice movement is often white-washed in the media. However, Black, Indigenous, and people of color communities throughout the world are disproportionately impacted by climate change. It is important to highlight the contributions of children and youth of color to the movement. I appreciated the illustrations by David Lopez that showcased racial, ethnic, and gender diversity. Writer Stephanie Loureiro intentionally pointed out that concern for clean water and air has been championed in ancient times in Greece and Pakistan. In highlighting the modern-day movement, Loureiro not only presented the actions of Greta Thunberg but also told the stories of youth of color, including Jerome Foster, Cullis Suzuki, and Xiutezcatl Martinez, among others. “Climate Activists” is a great way to engage young readers in current conversations about this important issue.

I liked this! I think that the art work is very realistic and looks like the people the book was depicting. I also think that this is a good introduction to climate change and will definitely open the topic up to school aged children.

This is a great resource to quickly inform people of all ages about climate activism. It goes through the history of climate and pollution reforms, and also current change being advocated for by the youth.

Highly recommend, as we all need to be well informed about climate change; there is no planet B after all.

A brief look into the history of climate activism. It presents the information in short, easy to digest snippets that will be good for younger readers who are interested in the subject. The graphics provided go well with the information, making the subjects memorable. The dialogue is a bit stilted and would be more engaging with better sentence flow.

I think this could be a great jumping off point for young environmental and climate activists who want to know more about the important figures and events in the subject.

This was a really good introduction to climate change and what has been done and is being done to combat it, both on the part of governments and on the part of individual activists.

Kiddo (9) is really fascinated by the topic and we have read a lot about it, so there wasn't a ton of new information in this. It was presented in a clear and easy-to-understand way, however. The information is broken down into easily digestible chunks and has just enough detail to inform without bogging down the text.

The graphic novel format was unique and did a good job attaching images to the information which can make it easier to remember. It also made the individual activists seem more real by giving us faces and expressions to put to the names.

The one thing that bothered me a little is that the dialogue between the characters feels very stilted and unnatural. Smoothing that out would have made the entire story flow smoother. Since it is a graphic novel, with fewer words to rely on, the dialogue is important and needs more attention.

This was such a good introduction to what has happened and what is currently happening. I did not know a lot of these activists and I’m looking forward to researching them more.

Climate change is hurting the planet. It creates problems for people, plants, and animals. Protecting the environment is important for our future. Climate activists work to get laws passed. They share information about how to help. And they speak up to encourage others to do their part.

An excellent look at a super important subject. Should be required reading for every Republican in the country.

Thank you to the Netgalley, Lerner Publishing Group, the author, Stephanie Loureiro, and illustrator, David López, for an advanced copy of this book! All opinions are my own. Available as of January 1, 2024.

This short graphic novel reviews environmentalism and climate activism with simple yet effective storytelling. It starts off by focusing on the history and evolution of climate change and environmentalism. Beginning with ancient societies, readers learn about the advocates and activists who strove to understand and improve the relationship between society and the environment. The final chapter highlights young climate activists and how they were inspired to use their voices for change. I really appreciated this chapter because it’s always great to see how involved younger people are in movements and how powerful young voices can be. I found this book to be rather informative for 30 pages and a great introduction to the topics discussed.

This was a great nonfiction level book on climate action! There was history, there was current events, and there was so much information about how young folks could become involved in climate action!

The graphic novel format was particularly engaging, and as a teacher I would not hesitate to share this with a middle or high school course.

I would absolutely recommend this to teachers and parents alike.

I received an advanced reader copy of this work, Climate Activists by Stephanie Loureiro, illus. by David López, in exchange for a fair review..

A book with so much information within those 30-some pages. Climate change is very critical to us and our future generations.
There are few things I myself want to read on to know more on the subjects mentioned in the book.
I believe contributing a little from everyone can bring the numbers down and possibly make a positive impact. It's still not too late for anyone to start knowing and caring about our Earth 🌎
Great for starters, younger audiences and anyone who cares about climate change.

Thanks to the author and NetGalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

Climate Activists is a graphic novel introduction to climate change and climate activism. We learn about people in the past who fought for environmental issues, and some of the important milestones from the past fifty years that have started current activism. Then the book covers the realization by many that this is a serious issue, and the beginning steps that governments and other organizations have begun taking to address the issue. The last chapter highlights some of the more well-known youth activists across the world.

This is a very thorough introduction for young people to the issues of climate change and the history of climate activism. This is a hugely important topic as we continue into the future, and this is a great beginning to educate the younger generation. Very well done.

Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this advanced review copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest review on the book!

This is a very short graphic novel that is a basic introduction to the history of climate protection and climate activism. Aimed at younger readers, it breaks down the history of climate change and steps some people and organizations have taken to try and reverse it.

Imo this is a very good basic introduction to the topics at hand. I think this was written with a younger audience in mind so while this is very basic for someone that has a history reading about these topics it is a very good starting point for someone just starting to read about these things. It is enough to get someone more interested in the topic so that they will read more in the future (I love that further reading is included in the back to help e courage that even more). I really like the art style (basic and to the point but very well done) and I really like how everything is written. Topics are covered with enough depth to help understand but not so much as to be confusing.

Overall I really did like this and highly recommend for readers of all ages (especially younger people).
