Nice book with good information and a good reference guide for teachers just as the title promises.

I especially enjoyed the second discussing alternative version to perform yoga -aka because of injuries or other situations that make it difficult to perform the typical poses easily- since I am always looking for ways to help others move in ways that helps their bodies but still allows their restrictions and troubles to be considered.

Good book!

I was totally impressed how detailed and inclusive this edition is. I am a wanna be teacher but a devoted practitioner of Yoga, Meditation and Breath Work. To have all these disciplines so well researched and brought together was so impressive. His passion for this genre is so evident! I believe new practitioners or those who are curious will find a wealth of knowledge in this book. It is one of the best resources for all the above practices. It will not disappoint! #TeachingYogaSecondEdition #NetGalley

Teaching Yoga, Second Edition by Mark Stephens is an excellent in depth manual for teachers of yoga. It covers the philosophy and purpose of the practice as well as detailed information about the various asanas, techniques, and body mechanics of this discipline. A how to guide for aspiring teachers that includes helpful chapters on how to pursue a higher education in the practice and the transformative journey it can offer is also woven into the book. It does not read as a text book, but rather, as an inspiring accompaniment to the very personal and spiritual journey that yoga is.

I believe this book is not only for aspiring teachers, but also for more seasoned instructors who wish to review the foundational principles of yoga. Students and those completely new to yoga would also find this book helpful as every aspect of the practice is discussed.

Very insightful, helpful, and inspiring.

This book is a great introductory title for yoga teachers, I would highly recommend it to new yoga teachers or to those who are instructors to incorporate into YTT programs.

Stephens outlines the philosophy and physicality of teaching yoga, but also includes an in-depth look at the logistical tools that yoga teachers need in their day-to-day teaching. For those interested in becoming yoga teachers, this provides a great overview of the first steps they would need to take in this journey. I’m not sure how applicable a lot of this information is to more seasoned teachers, but a great introductory text that I would absolutely recommend for those starting out.

I own the first edition of this book, which was originally published in 2010. This comprehensive book on Yoga is essential for Yoga Teachers. There have been some changes between the 2010 version and this one that are notable. Some sections from the original have been renamed, condensed or left out entirely. It appears that the original text had some references to Ayurvedic practices and principles and, perhaps in order to not verge into that lane, those sections have been removed. There are is also a section in the original text that speaks more in depth on well-known western teachers and gave short biographies on those lineages, and that section has been condensed a great deal. Perhaps this is the result of at least one of the teachers mentioned in that section being associated with abuse (sexual and otherwise) of his students. The new edition seems just as thoughtfully written and edited as the original, and give some basic historical context as well as foundational knowledge to teach Yoga, no matter how long you've been teaching.

Such a great reference for yoga practitioners and participants. This book covers the fundamentals of teaching yoga including asana instructions and illustrations. It reviews how to instruct a class including pranayama and meditation. Compliant with principles and practices of the Yoga Alliance. This is an essential reference for all yoga instructors.

This book has many contemporary and affirming tips and visuals. For example, emphasizing inclusive pronouns, using both English and Sanskrit if choosing to include Sanskrit, and using softer language for refinements as opposed to safety or foundational elements. While there are visuals featuring a relative diversity of bodies, I wanted more images for the yoga anatomy section, as teachers are considered experts in safety when facilitating a class. Some of these are covered in the Teaching Asanas section, but I think including more bodies, such as pregnant and post-partum individuals, people with limb differences, and bodies with more fat and/or muscle would be helpful.

A very comprehensive and good guide for teaching yoga, it does has a lot of information on anatomy, asanas and the vedas that will do the teaching process a little easier for the new teachers.

It's too a good book to have as an informative one, just to remember this or that at different parts of your life and your teaching, we are constantly learning and re learning things.

So if you´re beginning your preparation or are already a yoga teacher and want to expand your knowledge totally recommend this book.
