This cookbook was a great book to show how easy making pizza from scratch can be.
I have been looking to purchase an outdoor pizza oven for a while now, this book convinced me to do it . The author does a wonderful job illustrating the step by step instructions for each recipe.

Anyone who owns an outdoor pizza oven will want to pick up Epic Outdoor Pizza Oven Cookbook: Masterpiece Recipes for All Kinds of Pizza, an excellent cookbook by Jonathan Schuhrke. Most of us who own outdoor pizza ovens make our favorite traditional pizzas, but rarely try new ones. Schuhrke has expanded the options for utilizing a pizza oven to the greatest advantage, with innovative and unique pizzas that sound mouthwatering. Those reading this cookbook will definitely have a long queue of “must make” pizzas, as well as calzone.

The introduction shows how to make good pizza crusts, and there is also a chapter with basics including several pizza sauces, pesto, basic cooked chicken and other good things to top pizzas. The recipes are written in the traditional manner with the ingredients listed first, followed by the instructions. This makes it easier to follow the recipes for both advanced and beginning cooks. There are recipes here for everyone including vegetarians and healthy food fanatics.

Included is also information on using an outdoor pizza oven and becoming an expert on making perfect pizzas. There are also beautiful, professional photographs of most of the recipes, making every pizza and calzone look absolutely mouthwatering.

All told, anyone who loves pizza (and who doesn’t) will want to expand their repertoire of good pizza recipes, and will want to make new pizzas every day of the week.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

I love a good pizza book. We have a backyard pizza oven and we are always trying to find the perfect recipe that satisfies each of us.

I feel like I’ve never been able to create a decent pizza sauce at home. They always just taste… off. But this book has not only great and different pizza dough recipes, but sauces too. Building and baking the pizza for a backyard pizza oven is kind of fussy work, but the taste is so much better than frozen or diy grocery store pizza, that it’s worth the effort. There are so many delicious variations and techniques in this book that I think it’s definitely worth checking out if you want to up your home pizza game!

Thanks to NetGalley and Harvard common press for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. The book was a lot of fun to preview and the recipes were very extensively covered. The reader has multiple opportunities to try new methods in using Mr. Schuhrke’s expertise and knowledge to expand their own use of an outdoor pizza oven.

I found the recipes to be so enticing that I decided to make a few to see if I could master the art of pizza making. The ingredient list for the recipes were written in metric which were not easy to convert. This lead me to believe that the author did not intend this book to be used by the American backyard cook that is stuck in a standard system of measurement. Determined to go forward with making a recipe I converted all measurements thanks to my math skills for conversions and the internet for guidance. It is my opinion that most potential users would not go to this extent and turn the reader off from using this book.

So many great staple pizzas to try and more experimental ones. I'm looking forward to putting these recipes into practice and making pizza soon.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to review this. This is my honest and unbiased review.

I don't know what I expected with this cookbook. I guess it does what it says on the tin. Plenty of recipes and some definitely different ones to help encourage variation and trying something a little more 'off the wall', for example, the pizza with peaches...interesting. I like that it gives three different dough recipes...but for me...I don't think I will ever re-look at this. The pizza's I eat are the ones I know and like and I don't think the variety in this cookbook were ones I will want to go back to. HOWEVER, for the least adventurous who need that little hint, or to encourage guests to have a look at what they want making...maybe!

It was however nicely written, clear and simple instructions and the photos were appetising.

I love how this book was put together. It has a lot of tips and tricks, interesting recipes, and helpful pictures. We recently got a wood fired pizza oven and will be working our way thorough this book!

Forget the very cool outdoor pizza oven aspect of this cookbook for a minute. This is just a fantastic pizza cookbook. The author knows his pies. He almost comes at each recipe as a mix between an artist and a scientist. Each recipe is well thought out and explained. Add to this the mouthwatering pictures & the outdoor pizza oven instructions make this a 5 star book for me. (And I rarely give a cookbook 5 stars)

Just Wow! This is a fantastic Pizza Cookbook. So much information to devour whilst browsing through. Lots of tips, delicious easy to read recipes, and numerous colourful pictures.

Included are some recipes of sauces and condiments to top the pizzas with. There are also Calzone recipes as well as some fire-roasted recipes and dressings.

This book came at an opportune time as I have just purchased a beautiful gas fired Pizza oven. I love this book so much I have pre-ordered it. Only problem is I have to wait till the end of November until it releases. I would definitely recommend this book for all pizza lovers. 5* from me.

Thanks to Netgalley and Jonathon Schuhrke for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Excellent book detailing the basics of outside pizza ovens and the tools you need - not many special ones. He then moves on to the doughs - the three main types of pizza dough namely Neapolitan, classic American and so-called Artisan. The recipes themselves range from the very traditional simple Margarita through various additions of meat or vegetables. Whilst measurements are in cups first metric quantities are also given. I especially like the sections detailing how much dough to give specific sized pizzas and each recipe tells the reader what size pizza
is being constructed. Pizzas are pretty simple so the ingredients are easily available in any good shop. Photographs make recipes look fantastic. Overall a very good, well-written book to encourage and help people make their own pizzas from scratch - so much better and as easy as buying ready-made things. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy.

I don’t know the Ooni brand but perhaps that is what it seems like all my friends and book club ladies seem to have in their backyard – I first discovered this type of oven at a bagel-making workshop in Montreal and now I go to a friend’s houses to bake my bagels there. Seriously. I mean if you are dealing with me, why would I use a pizza oven to make pizza??

I love pizza and this makes me want to get an outdoor oven up here on the 6th floor, despite the fact that I can guarantee that my crazy cat would destroy it in 2 seconds flat. If you are thinking of getting a pizza oven, this book is perfect as it explains all the ins and outs and gives a bunch of yummy recipes that will have you 20 pounds heavier in no time flat and save you a wallet full of money on delivery.

Great tips, great ideas, great recipes, great book.

Hell yeah. We've been making pizza in our outdoor oven for about a year and a half and have gotten a bit in a rut. Reading through this ARC of the Epic Outdoor Pizza Oven Cookbook, I'm not just jazzed for a whole whole whole lot of pizza ideas that I haven't done yet, but even just the idea of revisiting our dough recipe, and mixing that up to suit the style. This cookbook is practically laid out, with great graphic design and photos. I love that in addition to the sections of various styles of pizza, there is a section on calzones, one on other fire-roasted dishes that can go in the outdoor oven, and even a section on the various sauces and toppings that require advance prep. Bravo!!

The cover does not do this book justice. Although opening this book will provide the pizza enthusiast to explore not only doughs, but sauces and a variety of different toppings. Provide the traditional pizza's from coast to coast and some varieties that will have the reader intrigued. The photos are good although not every pizza is represented in a phot. I think the reader will be surprised by the content and recipes included in this book.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley
