I just adore Katherine Center. She's so good at mixing together heavier themes with humor and fluffiness. And of course, she's done it again with The Rom-Commers. At this point, I'll read anything Katherine Center writes.
Emma is such an incredibly relatable character. She is constantly putting her father's and sister's needs above her own. She essentially puts her entire life on hold to care for her father. When the chance of a lifetime arises, she is hesitant to take it. After much convincing by her sister, she agrees. The opportunity to work with her favorite screenwriter, Charlie Yates, is only something she's ever dreamed about. But when Emma arrives at Charlie's doorstep, things immediately go awry. Charlie Yates and his huge ego butt heads with Emma. Can Emma convince Charlie that she's the perfect person to re-write his script?
Charlie is a classic cinnamon roll MMC - he comes off as gruff but underneath his hard exterior lies a gooey center and when we learn more about him, it's easy to see why he puts up such a tough exterior. Emma is the perfect person to bring Charlie back to life and Charlie is the perfect person to force Emma to start thinking about her own needs. Together they make a delightful and hilarious pairing.
Be prepared for all the feels. But don't worry - when you're on the verge of tears, Center hits you with some humorous levity. The line dancing scene seriously had me laughing out loud. This was such a quick read, and I enjoyed every minute of it. If you love a rom-com, you need to pick this up.

I've read everything Katherine Center has written, and I was thrilled to get my hands on an early release of The Rom-Commers. I wasn't sure about the premise of the book, but I utterly enjoyed the meta-love story of Emma and Charlie.
Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for sharing this book with me.

Many thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for gifting me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I really love Katherine Center and was so happy to receive this ARC. Great storyline, and premise. A close proximity romance that went through a whole slew of emotions. The back stories of the MC's is tragic yet endearing to making them the people they are. Recommended to Center fans.

I did not care for this book at all. It took me 2 months to read because I just didn’t find myself wanting to go and read the book. There was no plot for me. The two main characters didn’t like each other then all of a sudden they like each other. There was no build up to them talking in love which is what I felt the story was missing.

I love Catherine Center books, and look forward to her releases every year. This one was no different. It was a super sweet and as usual taught some overall message. This wasn't my favorite of hers but I will continue to read her books.

The Rom-Commers has a fun premise centering around screenwriting a romantic comedy. The main characters are screenwriters–one successful and famous and the other unknown and focused on caring for her father.
Emma’s love for her family is so beautiful. Her relationship with her father and sister is so special and I can feel her love and dedication through the pages.
I love when Center’s novels teach us something new. In this story, the reader learns about traumatic brain injury and Ménière’s disease and the time and energy required of caretakers.
The circumstances that lead Emma to be in close proximity to a famous and attractive and grumpy Charlie Yates may be unrealistic, but who cares? It’s a fun and sweet rom com!
I enjoyed reading this novel from the start and think it will be a great summer read for lovers of rom coms. It’s my favorite Katherine Center to date. (This is the 6th I’ve read.)

Cute and exactly what I love about Katherine Center. She is masterful at creating a romance. Loved this one and thought it was one of her best.

And this was exactly the book I needed right now. It was sad and wistful and joyful and happy and, in my opinion, just the right amount of sappy. It exemplified why I love this author even when some of her books don’t land for me. Cause when they do, it’s all worth it.

This book was a delight! It was funny it all the right ways, but didn't sacrifice or skimp on emotional moments. The Rom-Commers was compulsively readable - I took it everywhere with me so that I could keep reading a little more whenever I had a moment. Highly recommend if you're looking for something heart-warming and engaging!

Great set up, romance beleiver and not along with some intense family dynamics. Enjoyable and also took some time for me to get through

I tried to enjoy this because I’ve really liked Katherine Center’s last two releases, but unfortunately I didn’t care for this.
My main issue was that I thought the male main character/our love interest was, well, kind of a dick. He was rude and belittled what Emma does for a living.
He was not redeemed in my eyes…

The cover and it’s sprayed edges are bright and striking and are absolutely gong to pull you in right off the bat.
However I LOVED this book and I’ll definitely pick up other books this author writes going forward. The complex back story, the hilarious and fun banter between the two main characters and light hearted moments really stand out and shows that this book was well planned.
Emma’s backstory is close to my heart — though I did not have to give anything up besides my own time I also had to help take care of my father up until his passing while my mom was working to pay the bills. I was able to relate to the struggle of wanting to be able to do what was needed to reach dreams, while also having a literal full time job being a caregiver.
Perhaps that’s why I relate to this book so well, but i devoured this book quick and would recommend scooping it up yourself.

It's another win for Katherine Center! I loved this novel; it might even be my favorite. In true Katherine Center fashion, both Charlie and Emma come into this story with a complex backstory that just pulled me in and had me invested in their happiness. It's grumpy/sunshine with great banter, lots of character development, and a sweet slow burn. I adored Emma and Charlie and the way they quietly fall for each other while trying so hard to avoid it for different reasons. Every movie reference and role-playing experience just made me smile and I loved all the side characters that flush out their lives. If you're looking for something steamy, this is not it, but tender affection and thoughtful gestures abound. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my unbiased review. All opinions are my own.

A cute, young person story of rom-coms and romance. Emma wants so much to be a scriptwriter and is offered an amazing opportunity but Charlie is an obstacle on the way to her success. He is not a fan of the rom-com. Cute story on how Emma changes his mind!

I personally don’t think Katherine Center is the author for me. There is something I really don’t like about her writing, especially the dialogue. It feels cringey. Almost like Gilmore girls dialogue and I don’t like that show either.

I am a sucker for these tropes…they get me every time. I’ve been hanging on to this one for a while now and finally pulled it out over a little getaway weekend. I’m happy I did. It was lighthearted and what I needed to take my mind off of reality for a short while. Nothing ground-shaking here folks, just a quick, easy, enjoyable story.

Loved this one! I was not expecting all the real life issues that each character was experiencing and processing. They were so complex and going through it. I love when characters are relatable, especially in a romance. Because sometimes when your life is rocky or you have medical issues or are a caregiver, having a love life seems impossible and this book speaks to that. It is about a daughter who put aside her dreams and opportunities to care for her father who was injured, though she feels some responsibility and she had to raise her younger sister because of what happened while caring for him.
Emma gets a chance of a lifetime to work with her idol, a famous screenwriter. She is a ghostwriter and she needs to fix the rom com he wrote. Though when she gets to LA nothing turns out right AT ALL.
She definitely put Charlie on a pedestal and he fell hard and fast but he was an idiot. JK he thought he was doing the right thing. But that ending phone video message then his speech, aahh i almost cried. And the way that he was putting her first in the ending project. The bonus scene was so great! Wish you extended it to the helping of the clothes right after that scene I almost screamed lol. They were so awkward and inexperienced with actual romantic connection and close relationships that it was so cute to watch.
Loved how her family ended up with all the sweet relationships and after the stressful drama of an event at the end. It's so easy to say horrible things when something really bad happens.
So many possible tws for grief, loss of a parent, cancer diagnosis, check the website.

Emma had to put her career as a screen writer on hold after a terrible accident leaves her as caretaker for her dad. Out of nowhere, she gets a chance to rewrite a script for famous screen writer, Charlie Yates. Unfortunately, he's kind of a dick and knows nothing about writing romance. Emma will not give up this once in a lifetime opportunity. Can she convince him that love matters and romance is a worthwhile genre?
I LOVE THIS BOOK! It was so cute plus I love how Center always brings to light certain diseases that might not get the attention.

The Rom-Commers is perfect for anyone looking for a romance novel that also has depth. Katherine Center does a great job capturing both the lighthearted, sucker-for-love protagonist, as well as the cynical love interest.

Katherine Center has such a beautiful way with words, I really love the way she writes and how she crafts her characters and their world. I enjoyed this one a lot.
