Emma's life has been put on hold while caring for her father. When she receives an offer to help
with a rom-com script by her favorite writer, her father and sister push her to take the job.
Charlie is dealing with a serious case of writer's block and is only writing the rom-com script in
order to get a Mafia film produced.
Story focuses on Emma's and Charlie's growth, moving beyond their pasts. Their love of words and
wrting is a uniting force. Love the rest of the cast - a joyful read.

This was cute. I love Katherine Center. I like what Emma does for Charlie and how she changes him. I did not love the ending. Felt it was a bit of a bait and switch but I have a history with that subject matter so maybe that was part of it.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me a copy in exchange for an honest review.

I feel like I either love Center’s books or they’re just not for me. Unfortunately this one wasn’t for me. I liked the idea of the plot and loved our heroine’s humor and quirkiness but I did not like our love interest Charlie. He’s a grumpy man but I didn’t find him lovable at all and I thought really he was just mean? I also just didn’t feel the build up between them or really was rooting for the HEA.

Texan Emma Wheeler is a would-be screenwriter in The Rom-Commers, the latest contemporary romance from Katherine Center due out June 11. One of Emma’s romantic comedies won a Warner Brothers internship although she could not take advantage of it as she is the sole caretaker for her father. Now her friend—her manager—is offering her a chance to assist a legendary screenwriter revamp his feature film script. Turns out, she is a fangirl of the writer.
Fortunately, her sister has just returned home after graduating from college, providing Emma a chance to leave her father in her sister’s care for six weeks and take the opportunity to go to Los Angeles to work with Charlie Yates. However, she is actually on Charlie’s doorstep when she overhears him tell her manager he is not about to write with anyone, especially a screenwriter who would turn down a Warner Brothers internship.
Nevertheless, Charlie is out of his element in writing a rom-com, which he has agreed to do in exchange for a producer turning his Mafia script into a movie. He does not even care if the rom-com gets produced; it is just a means to an end. However, Emma will only write with him if he gives the romantic comedy an honest effort.
Under Emma’s tutelage, Charlie learns all the things that are wrong with his screenplay, and they begin doing research and writing together to add all the components of a love story to the script. Recently divorced, Charlie is sour on love stories, but Emma vows she will kiss him senseless if that is what it takes to open him up to all that is needed in a rom-com.
How will Emma keep her feelings in check while working with the handsome writer, someone she has long admired? What will it take to convince him to trust her on all the basics that need to be in a rom-com script? Why is her heart suddenly thumping when she is working with Charlie?
Katherine Center is the New York Times bestselling author of ten other novels. Her books The Lost Husband and Happiness for Beginners were made into Netflix movies. Center lives in her hometown of Houston, Texas, with her family.
My review will be posted on Goodreads starting April 6, 2024.
I would like to thank St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in return for an objective review.

I think Katherine Center has turned me into a romance reader!
While I’m not well-versed in romance books, I have found a new appreciation for it through Katherine’s book!
This romcom (haha) has some super special moments and talks about some sensitive but real subjects. The struggles that our main character, Emma, goes through are relatable and honest.
If you’re a fan of these tropes, I know you’re going to love this book:
* Grumpy x sunshine
* Enemies to friends to lovers
* Forced proximity
* You’re a fan of Katherine’s other book “The Bodyguard”
Also, let’s show a little appreciation for our main man Charlie! His character growth throughout the book was touching and made me appreciate Emma and Charlie’s relationship so much more.
I laughed, cried, wished for everything between these two to work out, and wasn’t disappointed. Romcom lovers— read this book!!
I will definitely be picking up more of Katherine’s books in the future and thank you again to NetGalley, St. Martins Press and Katherine Center for this ARC!

The Rom-Commers, by Katherine Center was a lovely book. I rooted for the MC’s. Loved the secondary characters . The banter was top notch. The feelings, frustrations, sacrifices, guilt & love all felt authentic. And we got our happily ever after, which, I was concerned for a moment we might not get. Phew!! Thank you Katherine, my opinion of this book would have changed drastically!! 😉
Be sure to check out the TW before reading, they include death of a parent, brain injury, cancer, anxiety, divorce & a few more I’m probably forgetting about.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you NetGalley & St. Martin’s Press for this eARC for my honest review.

What truly captivates me about the author's books is her masterful handling of of deeply emotional and relatable topics, all while expertly balancing humor in lighter moments. The story wonderfully portrays the importance of resilience amidst life's struggles and the transformative power of finding JOY in the middle of adversity. 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷
Emma Wheeler dreams of being a successful screenwriter, but her aspirations are put on hold as she cares for her father. When she get the chance to rewrite a script for her idol, Charlie Yates, she jumps at the opportunity, moving to L.A. for the job. However, Charlie is resistant to collaborating with anyone, especially someone he views as a "failed, nobody screenwriter." Despite their differences, Emma is determined to prove herself and defend the importance of romantic comedies. As she and Charlie work together, they discover unexpected feelings and possibilities, challenging Emma's beliefs about love and storytelling. Will their real life romance defy Emma's rules and come true?
Center possesses a remarkable knack for pulling at your heartstrings, effortlessly drawing you into a deep affection for her characters. I found myself wholeheartedly rooting for the two beautifully flawed main protagonists, cherishing every moment spent immersed in the pages of the story. The rollercoaster of emotions evoked, from laughter to tears and everything in between, made for an unforgettable journey!
In summary, I absolutely adored this book and its one of my favorite rom-coms of the year!! I highly recommend and it deserves infinite stars!! ♾️♾️♾️♾️♾️💫💫💫💫💫

A hopeless romantic and a man who doesn’t believe in love. What more could a girl hope for in a rom-com. I have always loved rom-coms. I mean come on at 10 years old my favorite movie was 10 Thing I Hate About You. This book was the perfect example of how to do a rom-com the right way. Not only was the dialogue top tier but Emma’s internal monologue was hilarious and heartbreaking at times. I wish we could’ve seen more of Charlie’s personality. I would’ve loved for an epilogue or something from his POV.
I cannot wait for this book to be published so I can recommend it to my fellow rom-com loving friends. All around a great read

Center takes two characters, screenwriters both trying to overcome a lot, and locks them in a room together, seemingly the best way ever to write about a rom-com. The title of a novel has never seemed more fitting than it has with this novel. Center loads this with comedic quips left and right and I spent have the time reading this book chuckling under my breath. The characters she created, both screenwriters who are trying to overcome something (or many things), was so relatable in the "everyone is human" struggle. This book was light and airy and full of heart.

I LOVED this book. It was fun and quirky and exactly what I expected from Katherine Center. If you liked Hello Stranger, you will love this. I laughed out loud a few times especially during the end. It was fun and believable and I was rooting for the leads! Will definitely recommend.

If you loved The Bodyguard, you'll love this one!!! Emotional and funny all at once. I really enjoyed this one.

I always love to sprinkle a good rom-com in with not just the heavy books but the heaviness that often comes with life. I've grown to depend on Katherine Center to deliver just what I need at the right time. This will be a hit this summer when it releases and with good reason - Center has again written a fun but serious story about real people with real faults, real problems and real banter that can at times be laugh out loud funny but also pull at the heart strings. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press and MacMillan Audio for both an early e-copy and audio book in exchange for my honest opinion. The Rom-Commers will be available on 6/11/24.

I LOVE Katherine Center, she has become a must read for me over the years. This book is everything I wanted it to be! We have the forced proximity trope, which I love. You definitely feel the tension between Emma and Charlie. Emma was so determined to succeed in what was basically a suicide mission from her company. They expect her to fail. She remained strong and positive throughout. I loved the side story with Emma’s little sister and her father. Overall, I laughed and this book was so heartwarming. I love the way Katherine Center writes. Could not put this one down!
Bottom Line: Read
**I received a copy of The Rom Commers from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are of my own.**

One of my favorite authors has written a story that is difficult to put down…family and friends…love and romance…the recipe for a number one novel. I enjoyed this novel from the first page to the ending. Center does not disappoint. The realistic characters come alive on the pages. The story moves quickly. I could not stop reading. Do not miss this novel that while fiction, at times reads like nonfiction. A talented and gifted author... Curl up on a comfy chair and be transported to the rom-comers in the book, The Rom-Commers. Thanks Netgalley

“Train yourself to see their best, most delightful, most charming qualities. Focus on everything they’re getting right.”
This book reminded me why I love the 90s and early 20s romantic comedies. If I were a book character, I would be Emma in many ways. How she takes notes on the best part of the movie, know why it clicks even if it's not what happens in reality, love that she included Kdrama (gosh, I miss watching Kdramas now), and even up sacrificing things for the people you love. Charlie was a jerk initially, but we all know love will be involved. How it happens is cute, terribly cute enough. The whole book is what I look for: romantic comedy. The banters, a hopeful character, a grumpy character, a situation that brings out the best and worst in them, a complicated story, a character wanting, and a character running. The ending was a chef's kiss, like her previous book, The Bodyguard. I did not want this book to end at all. I wanted more. The love story I got was not enough, but that's what happens when I read KC books. She doesn't leave you hanging; she leaves you thirsty for more.

I wanted so much to love this book, and I did love parts of it... most of which were in the second half. It was a slow burn with some bumps and bruises along the way. It made me laugh, and it made me cry... at times I wanted to throw the book, and then I wanted to pick it back up again. The journey of the main characters was actually sweet and touching, and we got to see them battle the internal barriers that held each of them back from allowing their dreams to come true. I recommend this book to the audience looking for a poignant story that challenges the typical notions of love and happiness. Katherine Center was brave to tackle the subjects of tragedy, loss, grief, chronic illness and their real life repercussions while weaving in comically romantic elements in the quest to find the nature of true love and ultimately happiness.

I am a Katherine Center super fan, and wasn’t disappointed with her newest book (out 6/11). I laughed, I cried, I swooned - everything I wanted - thought could have used a little spice if you ask me ;) - might have been 4.5 or 5 for me but I found Charlie’s behavior to be really off putting thought the book. I get it’s going through it but no need to be a dick! But, it still gets a yes from me!

Emma Wheeler is an aspiring screenwriter whose parents are in a tragic accident. She’s spent 10 years being her father’s caretaker, until she gets the opportunity of a lifetime: working with her hero, Charlie Yates. She’s enlisted to help him rewrite a romcom (the first version is so terrible because he doesn’t believe in love).
There are a lot of hijinks and shenanigans and it was so great! It’s laugh out loud funny, and Emma and Charlie are so endearing. Very easy to read- I flew through this because I didn’t want to put it down! I recommend this for anyone who likes romcoms! It had me kicking my feet.

Katherine Center writes the best rom-com’s! This one was perfect. Such a fun summer read! I highly recommend her books!

“It’s all about writing the very best story of your life. Not just how you live it—but how you choose to tell it.”
Emma Wheeler loves movies and dreams of becoming a famous screenwriter. For the past ten years Emma has put her dreams aside to care for her dad, who had Ménière's disease, something he develop after a family “camping accident”. While she cares for her days her younger sister, Sylvie, is pursing her dream.
Charlie Yates is one of Hollywood’s premiere screenwriters with a drawer full of awards to prove it. Charlie wants one of his screenplays brought to the big screen but there is a catch he needs to develop a screenplay, a reboot of an already famous old movie and it is a rom-com … and it is dreadful .. you see Charlie has no idea what a rom-com is never mind write one.
Logan Scott is a big time screenwriters’ manager – he managers both Charles and Emma. Plus, he is Emma’s former high school boyfriend. He knows Emma can write and Charlie has writer’s block. Logan needs to get Emma to LA for six weeks and present her with the screenplay that Charlie wrote, then he needs to convince Charlie to allow Emma to ghostwrite with him.
Dear Katherine Center, Thank you for writing books that for me not only bring me joy they are honest, funny, heartwarming and yes make me cry .. Charlie’s speech in chapter thirty-one was read through teary eyes. You create the most likable and charming characters. Emma and Charlie are delightful together even when they are dealing with realistic life issues; their chemistry radiates off the page. I loved the journey you took these two complex characters and made them step out of their comfort zone to not only trust each other but to believe in themselves, and to learn to love and be loved, that you deserve your dreams. And oh, what a finish for these two.
