Emma and Charlie will not be forgotten by this avid reader. Emma’s life has been put on hold to care for her father. With just a little shove, her life changes in ways she couldn’t expect. This is not without conflict, a love story and somewhat being forced to chase her dreams. These lovable characters are hard to let go. Katherine Center has a way of making you love every single well developed character more than the last. This is a story of finding yourself. It’s also the reminder of the importance of family relationships.

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this advanced audiobook!

I absolutely loved the concept of this book. It was a love letter to rom-coms in all their forms and enjoyed every second of that.

Charlie started off kind of unlikeable but the more we got to know him, the more I really enjoyed his character. I enjoyed Emma right from the start and loved her dedication to her family. She felt like a really relatable and well developed character.

I don’t love a miscommunication trope, but this one didn’t bother me too much. It didn’t last overly long and I think it was handled pretty well. I love a grand gesture so that really helped it too.

This was another great book from Katherine Center. Was it my favorite of hers? Not quite, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thank you St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the eARC of The Rom-Commers! All opinions in this review are my own.

I have only ever seen positive reviews for Katherine Center's books so I was excited to finally read one! I absolutely loved The Rom-Commers from the concept of a die-hard rom-com fan trying to help one of the best screenwriters fix his own to their banter throughout the book to the way they fell for each other (sometimes literally). Center has a talent for creating loveable characters and making them read like real people. I look forward to reading more of her work!

Traveling With T’s Thoughts:

I have loved Katherine’s books since I read How To Walk Away. I love her book covers, they are fun and bright and cheerful (like her!)

I was sent an e-ARC of The Rom-Commers and I could not wait to read it. And then, lo and behold, I saw (quite by accident one day) that she would be at Square Books in Oxford. I let my friend Reeca know and we made plans. Of course, my plans were hindering on a thousand things going right that day to leave work a tad early. And of course that day, everyone acted like the world would fall apart. But I left somewhat early and raced to Oxford for a glass of wine with Reeca before the signing.

I had wanted to read the book before the signing, but life gets in the way. So I actually read it while on vacation a few weeks later.

Meeting Katherine in Oxford was fantastic (read all about that here!) and even though I knew I would love The Rom-Commers, I don’t think I anticipated loving it as much as I did.

What I liked:

The cover was so cute! So fun! So colorful. Also, I did not realize until the book signing that the edges of the book were going to be spray painted pink. That just gave it that little extra sparkle!

Emma. What a delightfully layered character. I wanted to exchange BFF necklaces with her. I admired her quiet strength. I loved her LOVE for the rom-com. And that is when I liked her the best- when she was all passionate!

Emma’s dad. The gems of wisdom he would share with his daughter were great and she needed every last one of them.

Bottom line: It’s a winner for Katherine Center! *claps hands in anticipation of her next book!*

Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for providing me with an eARC of The Rom-Commers in exchange for my honest review!

Having previously enjoyed Hello Stranger by Katherine Center, I'm glad to say that another book of hers, The Rom-Commers, has turned out to be another touching, amusing, and sometimes heartbreaking read. Emma and Charlie make for a charming couple, even if the book starts out on a path that leaves me wondering if Charlie really is all that suitable of a love interest. Goddamn, he's such a grumpy little jerk in the beginning. But hey, the book succeeds at helping me warm up to him significantly and vibe with the chemistry between him and Emma. This book gets plenty of laughs out of me, too, as well as wrenching my heart through Emma's backstory. And on top of all that, I appreciate that this book revolves around a pair of screenwriters, which contrasts with the great number of rom-coms that focus on authors, journalists, actors, and/or directors. We just don't get many screenwriter romances, and The Rom-Commers contributes to changing that a little.

Overall, I'm officially rating The Rom-Commers four out of five stars. I'll continue to keep more of Center's books in mind.

I hate to say this one was just not for me. The miscommunication between the two main characters had me screaming pretty much the whole time I was reading it, and not in a good way, and the female MC was so cringey with her attempts at being cute and quirky it made her absolutely insufferable. It was a quick, fast read but I feel like its lack of depth is the type of thing that gives this genre a bad wrap.

That being said, I really enjoyed the other characters in the book and the meta “rom-com within a rom-com” storyline.

Something about Katherine Center's writing always draws me in. I love how she writes banter in her stories.

The Rom-Commers is my third book that I have read. While I was intrigued while reading it, I had a hard time connecting with the characters. I loved Emma's character and the way she took care of her father and looked after her sister.

Charlie Yates was my least favorite male character written by Katherine. He was very rude to Emma and never really properly apologized to her. He briefly said sorry but never again mentioned how he made her feel. I wish Emma would've stood up for herself.

The ending was super cute and the way Charlie spoke about Emma .

I loved this book! Katherine Center is definitely one of my new favorite authors. I've read a few books by her, but this one is my favorite of the bunch. Emma and Charlie are adorable. Most of the book is a slow, understated burn while the characters developed and dealt with their own lives, but I thought it was really good and well written. If you're a fan of romance, you'll be a huge fan of The Rom-Commers! Highly recommend.

Attention: I think I have a new favorite Katherine Center book. She absolutely nailed this romcom filled with favorite tropes!

More importantly, (to me anyway), she managed to write not one, but TWO, characters that I absolutely loved. She not only perfectly created two characters, but both of them have some deep seated issues that she seamlessly incorporated into their personalities.

I loved the idea of Emma and Charlie writing a rom com screenplay, within a romcom. Emma dealt with Charlie and his anxieties perfectly, and I got so incredibly attached to them both that by the end I was a hot mess waiting to see how it all played out.

Katherine Center has a gift for writing these books - 5 stars!

The Rom-Commer's is another great book by Katherine Center! It made me laugh and want to be in LA writing a screen play with Charlie and Emma. It's fun from the beginning to the end and now I can't wait for Katherine's next book. I eagerly wait for her books each summer!

I read/listened to the audio and Patti Murin did a wonderful job. She's so expressive and is very enjoyable to listen to.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review. All opinions are my own.

This has become my new favorite Katherine Center book! I loved the characters, she builds them so it feels like I'm right there with them. I also love enemies-to-lovers themes, and this one fell right into that. It also provided an interesting look at how different people approach romance (as a book and in real life) and how life circumstances shaped it. If you want a softer story with lots of touching moments, without being too serious, I would recommend The Rom-Commers.

Katherine Center does it again! The Rom-Commers is a burst of joy and a love letter to the romance genre! Charlie and Emma have a slow burn chemistry that feels real and relatable. Her voice shines and makes the reader feel like their best friend is telling one of their best stories ever in a first person past POV. Cannot wait for what’s to come and so thankful I got a chance to read this!

I will not be reviewing this book until St. Martin's Press takes accountability for statements their employee said.

If I'm being honest, I didn't realize this was an SMP book, or I wouldn't have requested it.

I love the way Katherine Center writes romance. I adore her leading ladies. Most of the time, I adore her leading men too. But Charlie was not it. He was condescending and moody and I know he’s a tortured writer but I just felt like Emma forgave him a few too many times and all too easily. It was giving me flashbacks to my own past unhealthy relationships and I just don’t want that invading the fantasy in a rom com i’m reading. Like I know I was meant to swoon a bit over Emma helping Charlie overcome his shit but, no? Get a therapist?

The best part for me was actually Emma’s family. Her dad’s health issues were a prominent part of the story line and I feel like it was done well and actually felt accurate (from a nurse perspective). Her dad warned my heart. The fight with her sister crushed me though.

A like, not a love, but Katherine will continue to be an auto read for me! Thank you to @netgalley and @stmartinspress for a chance to read and review!

Emma heads to Hollywood to help a brooding, famous screenwriter fix his rom-com script, and the sparks (and laughs) fly!✨ The Hollywood setting had me hooked from the start—I'm always a sucker for that vibe! Though I know some might not love the third act breakup, I was completely won over by the chemistry, pacing, and fantastic characters. 💫 Honestly, it gave me all the nostalgia feels while still feeling fresh and fun! If you’re in the mood for a rom-com with all the classic beats, this one’s for you!

This book was an absolute delight for me! It made me laugh. And, it made me cry. Katherine Center will most likely be an auto read for me every time. I love her character development, the witty banter - all of it. It was just an overall feel-good story.
