INFINITE STARS! Katherine Center does it again 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This one had so much humor, sadness, hope, banter... it was the perfect mix of happy and sad.
Books rarely make me laugh out loud, but I found myself laughing at the characters' dialogue and thoughts more than once. Emma is hilarious. She was so relatable too. Even Emma's family was amazing (can they be my family??).
Every single character was fantastic. Even the annoying character TJ (Jablowmie) was just the right amount of annoying to make me not hate him entirely. And Logan proved he's not actually a liar and just messed up once, so he redeemed himself. Emma is so sweet and funny and caring, and Charlie is the perfect example of someone who cares so much but just feel like he has to hide it under nonchalance and coolness. Every single character was so unique and added so much to the story.
I especially loved Charlie's character growth. If anyone knows how to writer character development, it's Katherine Center.
Everything in this book seemed so realistic too! Even the pilot waiting for Emma was based on a real news story the author read years ago.
Everything about this book made me want to have more faith in humanity. You never know what people are going through - as this book proved with Emma's dad's disease and Charlie's cancer scare.
10/10 recommend. So funny with sad moments that made the funny parts funnier. The summer's perfect rom-com!

Emma Wheeler is an English teacher trying desperately to be a screenwriter and to get her big break. She is caring for her ailing father when she is presented with the chance to rewrite script for Charlie Yates. Emma has been a long time fan-girl of Charlie and jumps at the chance for this opportunity. Charlie is less than thrilled. This Katherine Center novel is an enemies-to-lovers/forced proximity, rom-com. As with all Katherine Center novels, I loved this one! I love how Center writes her characters. There are always funny moments, and sad moments, and uplifting moments in her novels. She handles tough topics sensitively. This one is fun, especially for those who love a good rom-com.

The Rom-Commers, Katherine Center’s new book, does not disappoint. Emma Wheeler finally gets the chance of a lifetime: an opportunity to write a romantic comedy script with Charlie Yates, winner of multiple awards and her favorite screenwriter. It is her first trip away from her father and her responsibilities caring for him in ten years, but for the chance of writing with the great Charlie Yates, Emma risks leaving her father with her sister and venturing forth to LA. Unfortunately, the job does not quite turn out as promised so Emma fights to persuade the great Charlie Yates to let her work with him because she totally understands how to write a rom-com and Charlie Yates most definitely does not! As two opposites learn to work together, they find their writing approaches, strong opinions and personality quirks constantly interfere with the job at hand — writing a script that promotes the joy of love. Center’s witty writing, comic situations, and emotional tugs make this book a winner. Highly recommended! Thank you Net Galley for granting me a ARC for an honest review.

I really loved this book 🥰
Two screen writers. An ex boyfriend. A major crush. It’s beautifully written!
“Who even was I on my own?”
“So what if I was wearing the same earrings I’d worn at my high school graduation? They were great earrings.”
“I fell in love all the time. Just… nobody fell in love with me back. Fiction really was all I had in the romance department.”
“Suddenly I was curious about him in a new way. Curious enough to stay.”
“I had armored up for a field of battle- and somehow we wound up in a field of daisies instead. Having a picnic.”
“Of course I believe in love. It’s the best things humans ever invented.”
“I think that you’re my favorite person I’ve ever met.”
“It’s a love letter to fun. And to love. And to you, I think.”
“There it is. The whole trick to life. Be aggressively, loudly, unapologetically grateful.”

ARC READ THROUGH NETGALLEY. All opinions are my own.
I loved this book so much. I loved Emma. I loved Charlie. I loved their story. I loved the way it was written like Emma was talking directly to us. Also I did really like that it wasn't dual POV, I've read so much dual POV books lately that I forgot I really enjoy books written from one POV. Emma's life up until this point broke my heart a little as did Charlie's. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time dying to know what happened next (I did read this book in less than 24 hours if that's any indication of how much I enjoyed it).

Just finished “The Romcommers” by Katherine Center and I’m giving it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️! As a huge fan of Katherine Center’s writing, I couldn’t wait to dive into this charming story featuring Emma and Charlie. I love when writers write stories about writers! Emma Wheeler is a romantic-comedy screenwriter who is tasked with teaming up with Charlie Yates, a renowned screenplay writer who happens to be her idol. This is no ordinary collaboration— he’s written his first ever rom-com screenplay and it’s tragically terrible so he needs help bringing it new life. Emma is a hopeless romantic who doesn’t have time for love so she just writes about it instead. Charlie is a cynic who’s been hurt in the past and doesn’t believe in love. As they work together, they must navigate their differences and their growing feelings for one another. What transpires between the two is pretty entertaining, full of fabulous, witty banter!
Center’s knack for creating relatable characters and heartwarming plots shines through once again. Emma’s journey of rediscovery, a self-reinvention of sorts, kept me hooked from start to finish. The blend of humor, romance, and poignant moments makes this a perfect read for anyone who enjoys feel-good fiction. If you’re looking for a book that will lift your spirits and leave you with a smile, look no further than “The Romcommers.” Katherine Center has crafted another gem that reminds us of the beauty of second chances and the power of following your heart. Overall, this is a must read for fans of the romantic comedy genre and anyone looking for a light and fun summer read that’s more sweet than steamy. Oh and I’d be remiss if I didn’t take a moment to comment about the Epilogue— it’s one of the best ones I’ve ever read, full of incredible quotes and an ending that will leave the reader in the most delightful mood.

I enjoyed reading this fun book that had a big heart. I found the plot entertaining, and I really liked Emma. She was a very genuine character and I thought she was highly relatable. Unfortunately, I did not like Charlie much. Still, this wasn't a bad read, it just didn't hit the sweet spot for me as far as the romance went.

I have definitely enjoyed some of Katherine Center's other works (The Bodyguard was amazing). While the premise of this one sounded thrilling, the follow-through wasn't as good as I expected. This book was a solid 3.5 stars for me. The pacing was a little bit off and I did not enjoy the transition from third person storytelling to our main character narrating at the reader. I really enjoyed the romance, even though ! wish there was more. I also liked the characters a lot-Charlie's boyish handsome qualities and disorder in a love interest really did it for me (surprisingly). This book made me feel a lot of emotions, especially in the second half of the book. I wish that we would have been able to actually learn about what happened instead of being told but overall this was an enjoyable book. Thank you NetGalley and St.
Martin's Press for another fun read. Another fun one from Katherine Center.

I really loved the premise of this book but the execution was not my favorite. I have really enjoyed the previous books I have read by this author but this one was a miss for me. I loved the nod to old Hollywood with Charlie living in Esther Williams' old house. I thought that Emma's background story was interesting and I was rooting for her to get her big break.
I think where the story fell short for me was the romance. I just didn't feel the connection between the two characters. It was also hard for me to picture Charlie and to understand if there was an age gap or if they were closer in age to help understand their dynamic.
I did like how Charlie helped her family after her father's accident at the end of the book. Everyone got their happy which was nice.

The Rom-Commers is a rom-com about writing a rom-com. (Wink, wink) It was so much fun reading Emma and Charlie as they rework a romance script he is working on. Their banter was off-the-charts from the get-go. Once I started reading, I didn't want to stop. I listened to the audiobook, and Patti Murin does a masterful job voicing these characters and this story.

I have mixed feelings about this book. It started off really strong, and as it progressed I did not feel any connection with either main character, and did not connect with their relationship at all. There are definitely heavier themes (TBI parent, death of parent, cancer) prevalent throughout the story. This will work well for some readers but definitely has a target audience - which I am not.
Things I enjoyed:
- FMC is chaotic and funny
- forced work proximity
- FMC taking care of sick parent
Things that should have worked for me but didn't:
- meddling friend
- enemies to lovers
- the actual romance
- the cancer subplot
Things that definitely did not work:
- what man in his 30s parts his hair?
- without spoiling, there were a lot of "near misses"
- no spark
Readers should be prepared for a no-spice, two kiss scenario in this book, with none of the romance starting until about 65-70% into the story. But - you typically get a lot of character development and buildup that make the relationship believable when you have a slow burn. That did not happen for me here, so I mostly felt disconnected.
The narration was good. I listened at 2x which is the fastest Netgalley audio goes, and probably would have sped it up a little bit more. This narrator does a good job of both male and female voices. Since this book is single POV, having one narrator makes sense.
I will read more by this author. This is my second book of hers and I enjoy her writing style, but will be more careful when picking books based on themes.

Katherine Center does it again with a solid rom com that has heart, character development and a solid story that keeps you turning the page. I've read enough of her books to know they will always be a great choice. The Rom-Commers is another to add to the list.
Thank you to St. Martins Press and Netgalley for the electronic copy.

Emma Wheeler is a little-known screenwriter whose career has taken a backseat to devotedly caring for her dad and managing his medical issues. When her agent presents an opportunity to work with Charlie Yates, her favorite writer ever, she can hardly believe it – hardly believe how bad his screenplay is, that is! But this is THE Charlie Yates, so Emma reluctantly leaves her dad in the care of her younger sister and heads out to L.A. to save Charlie’s script, where she just might find love – and herself – in the process.
Readers who love Katherine Center are going to love The Rom-Commers. I once saw someone describe Katherine’s books like a warm hug, and I don’t remember who you are, but THANK YOU, because that’s exactly what they’re like. Her books are like being wrapped in a big warm hug; a tender, funny, sometimes teary hug that makes you believe in love and happy ever afters. Charlie and Emma have chemistry for DAYS, and even when Charlie was a grumpy curmudgeon (okay, even when was downright mean), I was rooting for him to redeem himself and realize how awesome Emma was. I also loved Emma’s character growth from a single-minded caretaker to letting go a little, learning to trust other people, and ready to embrace life and love. If grumpy x sunshine, forced proximity, and sweet romance with a heaping dose of witty banter are your jam, The Rom-Commers is the book for you!

“You had to maximize joy when it fluttered into your life. You had to honor it. And savor it. And not stomp it to death by reminding everyone of everything you'd lost.”

“I think,” he said, surprisingly lucid for a moment, “that you’re my favorite person I’ve ever met.” “Oh,” I said, looking back down. “That’s very nice of you.” “And I’ve met”—and here, less lucid, he made a big, drunk gesture—“everybody. In the world. And you’re my favorite. Out of all seven billion.”
Had the pleasure of meeting Katherine Center during one of her tours and dare I say that I kept seeing her personality reflected in Emma and her writing. She is so fun and down to earth.
The Rom-Commers was a fun slow-burn read about two screenwriters who are forced to collaborate. Once under the agreement, Emma can show Charlie that to write romance, you have to feel it and recognize it. Charlie, as the grump that he is, has never truly fallen in love. It is through Emma’s side activities that he starts realizing what the feeling truly is. I loved seeing them come together day after day to create a romance despite Charlie’s grumpiness.
This was a fun rom-com about writing a rom-com with lots of witty banters and comedic vibes.
"You want me to take it?" I said. "I'll take it! And I'll spray-paint it bubblegum pink and write my name on it in red Sharpie with little hearts! And I'll tell everybody I won the Academy Award for Best Screenplay for a rom-com so rom-commy it was called The Rom-Commers
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC

Thank you to SMP Romance for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
Katherine Center is a relatively new romance author to me, but when I heard the synopsis of this book, I knew I had to read it. Not to mention “and they were roommates” is one of my absolute favorite romance tropes.
This story follows Emma, an aspiring screenwriter who hasn’t broken into the industry yet and Charlie, one of the best screenwriters to ever do it but has lost his metaphorical spark in recent years. Oh did I mention they’re complete opposites? Emma is a ray of sunshine and Charlie is such a grump.
Our leads team up, or rather are forced together by their agent, to re-write a romantic comedy script and along the way they, of course, fall in love.
I read this book in a day I had SUCH a great time. This book delivers on every level and I adored the banter between Emma and Charlie. Come for the romance tropes and stay for the pet guinea pig, rom-com “research”, witty banter, Kdrama-inspired kissing scenes (IF YOU KNOW YOU KNOW) and so much more.

2.5 stars rounding up to 3 stars. I didn’t love this book but I also didn’t hate it? It was entertaining enough that I read it fairly quickly, but both the female and male MC did a lot of things throughout the book that made me not really like either of them. If this was supposed to be enemies to lovers trope, I think the meanness from Charlie (the male MC) was a bit too hurtful to come back from. I really enjoy Katherine Center and will definitely continue to read books by her but this one missed the mark for me.

Katherine Center has become an automatic read for me, and The Rom-Commers did not disappoint! Both heartwarming and complex, Center's characters displayed the true range of humanity, flawed yet deserving and folks you can't help but root for!
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the advanced copy.

4 stars for a closed door romance book! Emma and Charlie are :::heart eyes:::! I loved their banter and the gradual unfolding of their relationship. Katherine Center has a writing style that i just love and enjoy reading so much. But I wasn't a huge fan of so much of Emma's internal dialogue and not a huge fan of the cover art. Overall I would highly recommend to rom-com fans!
My favorite quote from the book " if you wait for other people to light you up. Then I guess you’re at the mercy of darkness."

Summary; Charlie Yates is a great writer. He wrote the epic screenplay that made Jack Stapleton a household name—and became a household name himself. But now he’s written a romantic comedy . . . and it’s terrible.
Emma Wheeler could have been a great writer—but her life didn’t quite go like she planned. Now, when she gets the chance to rewrite Charlie’s apocalyptically bad screenplay—uncredited, of course—she jumps.
But Charlie doesn’t want anyone to rewrite his work—least of all a “failed nobody screenwriter”—and Emma can’t support a guy who doesn’t like rom-coms adding another terrible rom-com to the world.
So what choice do they have, really . . . but to fall stupidly, crazily, heart-poundingly in love?

My thoughts- I loved this one 😍 this one is beyond cheesy and ridiculous but I loved every minute of it. Katherine Centers writing is just magical, I’ve read all of her book and will continue to do so. This is the perfect enemies to lovers read this summer, with a hint of some serious topics as well. Emma was impossibly loveable and this was just the most cheesy love story that will make your heart happy! 🥰

QOTD- what is your favorite romance book this year?! Mine was the new Abby Jiminez 😍

The Rom-Commers did not disappoint! Aspiring screenwriter, Emma, has sacrificed her career to care for her disabled dad. Her whole life has been consumed by medication charts and diligently tracking her dad's symptoms. When her friend from LA, Logan, shows up with a terrible screenplay written by one of her favorite writers, she (with the help of her sister, Sylvie), rearranged everything and left 10 years of caretaking behind to move to California to help Charlie Yates clean up his awful script.
I knew pretty quickly that Charlie wasn't as bad as he was made out to be, and I also called it pretty early on that he would fall first. Can we talk about their first kiss? Katherine Center is a master of the slow burn, and I've never anticipated a kiss as much as I did with Charlie and Emma!
Like most of Katherine's books, she masterfully balanced the struggles of every day life, loss, and grief with the fun and light-hearted nature of a new love and romance. There were definitely some cheeseball/cliche moments in the book, but I still enjoyed everything very much.
