Katherine Center writes the best romances! The relatable kind that makes you feel seen while also making you giggle and kick your feet. I listened to the audio, and the narrator did a smashing job of nailing the emotions here. I felt right along with Emma. And that bonus chapter! Perfection! The author's note, read by Katherine herself, was also full of insight into the romance genre, and I wholeheartedly agree with her. I think I found my new favorite KC book!
This book is a love letter to all of us romcom lovers, and I loved every single page! Emma is the QUEEN of romcoms, and when she's asked to help a very famous screenwriter, who just happens to be her favorite ever, rewrite his romantic comedy script, she thinks she's hit the jackpot. But you know what they say about meeting your hero... Charlie happens to be an anti-love, anti-feelings, grump. It's no wonder his romcom is atrocious (worse than terrible).

Amazing!! May have become my fave from KC!! I loved it. I liked how the main character wasn’t a silly female. She was cute and I so enjoyed the ending. I didn’t love one scene but overall just a wonderful rom com

This was another good book by this author. It’s an easy to read fast paced rom-com. I liked all the characters and only wanted to shake Charlie and Emma a few times. This was the perfect book to escape into

DNF. I liked The Bodyguard, but I couldn't get into this one sadly. The mention of Charlie's full name happened so many times that it threw me off. It's not a huge deal, but it irks me when books repeat things like that when it's not necessary. Also, Charlie rubbed me the wrong way from the first interaction. I didn't like how he spoke to Emma and belittled her. I know it's meant to be a grumpy x sunshine, but he was flat out rude. It didn't make me excited to continue reading.
Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC!

Thank you to Netgalley, St Martins Press and author Katherine Center for the ARC to read and review!!
Guys, THIS is how a rom-com is done! Can I go higher than 5 stars? Because this one deserves ALL the stars! It’s funny, emotional, meaningful and just an all around feel-good story with amazing characters and a super fun plot! The book balances the real life dilemma of juggling life after loss, family responsibilities, chasing your dreams and finding your happily ever after! And Katherine does it like a BOSS!
And can I just say EMMA & CHARLIE?! Insert big heart eyes here! From their very first meet, those two just had me grinning from ear to ear! I LOVED them together! Grumpy / Sunshine at it’s very best!!! And all the romantic comedy “research” is swooony! Gah!
Oh and by the way … I NEED a strawberry hoodie! IYKYK!
This is my first Katherine Center book … and y'all … I get it now!! So pardon me as I go and grab every other KC book I have on my shelf and move them to the top of my TBR!

Thank you to NetGalley, Katherine Center, and St Martins Press for this arc in exchange for an honest review!
This book was fun! It felt like watching a goofy, emotional rom-com from the 2000s (and there's no better praise!). It follows two screenwriters, Charlie and Emma. Charlie is a hyper-successful prodigy that works on Martin-Scorsese types of scripts, whereas Emma had to put her rom-com dreams on hold to take care of her father 24/7. Until Charlie is forced to write a rom-com and it's so bad, she is its only salvation. So she moves to LA for a few weeks only and they work on fixing the script together (while living under the same roof). Emma is tasked with making Charlie believe in love again, while Charlie just wants Emma to fulfill her potential. It reminded me a lot of Beach Read, and I think if you're a fan of that book, you will probably enjoy this one very much.
The writing was always embedded with humor and easy to follow. It never became revoltingly cheesy as well, which I very much appreciated. However, it was able to deliver all the emotions you'd expect from a rom-com anyway. The only thing that sometimes annoyed me was how repetitive it was, but that didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of this book.
The plot flowed well and was well-paced, in my opinion. I was never bored or overwhelmed. Was it realistic? Not really. Were there *very convenient* plot points at times? Absolutely. But it's a rom-com so that's in line with genre expectations. The ending was dramatic and swoon-worthy, and really really cool. I would read it again just for the cinematic ending honestly. But I'd probably skip the epilogue - it's a me issue though, I typically don't enjoy epilogues and this book's was fine, not offensive, but it was there.
The characters were fun to follow and I appreciated their moments together (and their banter!). The guy - Charlie - was the very-much-in-his-head type, while she - Emma - was the too-scared-to-take-risks type. But these characteristics made sense with their backstory and their arc is incredible because they get over themselves.
The romance was not super slow-burn but took its time to develop, even if they were obviously into each other from the beginning - the chemistry was incredibly well-developed. Despite understanding why the third-act break up happened, and the sacrifice it meant, it still made me mad.

I think Katherine Center made me like an enemies-to-lovers romance….?! This is the third book I’ve read by Center, and this one is my favorite so far!
Emma is presented the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to ghost write for the famous screenwriter, Charlie Yates, but there’s a few problems: Who’s going to care for Emma’s ailing father while she’s away? And even worse, Charlie’s not onboard with a script re-write…
Emma thinks that the “rom-com” that Charlie has written is all wrong, so Emma decides to “teach” Charlie what a true “Happily Ever After” is supposed to look and feel like.
Things I liked:
🌸 The banter! Like I said before, I really actually enjoyed the enemies-to-lovers of it all
🌸 A rom-com about a rom-com…
🌸 The characters were relatable — We know more about Emma’s story, but “real life” topics (death, grief, panic attacks) give the story some depth.
If you’ve liked Center’s previous books, you’re sure to like this one. It’s the perfect summer read that’ll leave you with a smile on your face.
Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I felt all the emotions reading The Rom-Commers by Katherine Center. I have not encountered a book she's written that I haven't enjoyed and this is no exception.
Emma Wheeler is a screen writer who has taken a pause on life to care for her father. She gets the opportunity of a lifetime to work with her absolute favorite Hollywood screen writer, Charlie because he needs help with an awful rom com script he has written.
Things I absolutely loved in this book:
*She believes in love, he doesn't. Absolute grumpy sunshine!
*The humor in this had me laughing out loud!
*Doing research for the script including line dancing!
*An adorable guinea pig.
*Wonderful messaging/themes surrounding love, loss and fear.
I smiled, I laughed, I cried all while reading this book. An absolute recommend for anyone that enjoys a well written rom com!
Thank you so much Netgalley for this ARC!

To say I was pleasantly surprised by Center's latest work might diminish the pure joy I felt once I reached the end of this story. But it must be said that Center's talent lays in her ability to smash you over the head with the feels while also bring about loving experience. Go get yourself a copy asap. Overwhelmingly enjoyed.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for providing an eARC for an honest review.

A delightful story about Emma who is a screen writer looking for her big break but has been stuck the last decade taking care of her father who had a climbing accident. Ironically her high school ex-boyfriend Logan thinks Emma should help his pal Charlie, a VERY famous screen writer, on his unromantic romantic comedy script. Emma and Charlie get thrown together writing a film script together and it is PERFECT. Cue endless banter and a very sweet story that will stay with you. Did Katherine Center (@katherinecenter ) knock it out of the park again for me? Always!!!
I greatly appreciated the cameo of our beloved movie star from The Bodyguard as well 👏🏻
A huge thank you to @katherinecenter , @netgalley and @stmartinspress for an advanced copy!

This book should come with a warning: UNPUTDOWNABLE. Do not read on a week night.
Because without that warning, you'll end up like me: reading this book way past midnight on a week night to finish it and trying to cry silently as to not wake up the household.
This book has become a new all-time favorite. This book was literally PERFECTION.
I loved the dynamic between the MCs, Emma and Charlie. How Emma was teaching her idol, who was a bit of a jerk in the beginning, the power of rom-coms and love. And how Charlie, surprisingly, took it in stride and actually listened and heard Emma.
I loved Charlie! I loved how his character was built, how his aloofness was actually a shield against getting attached to someone who could leave him and hurt him. I loved how Emma slowly brought that shield down and got him to start opening up and be hopeful again.
And Emma! Such a strong FMC! She'd been through so much already so I was really rooting for her to get her big break as a writer!
I don't want to say too much so I'll finish with an honorable mention: the line-dancing scene with a jealous Charlie! LOVED it! Chef's kiss!
This book is a MUST-READ.

I do not normally read a lot of romcom books but I do make a point to read what Katherine Center writes because she goes beyond just the mutual attraction between two people and does discuss issues the characters may be having. I thought this story was funny, witty and entertaining. So many books deal with such heavy topics that reading a romcom here and there is a nice break. And I love the title.
Thank you Netgalley for an ARC of this book.

This gripped me from the start, Emma pulls you right in and you fall for her even before Charlie has a chance to enter the picture.
« A rom-com should give you a swoony, hopeful, delicious, rising feeling of anticipation as you look forward to the moment when the two leads who are clearly mad for each other finally overcome all their obstacles, both internal and external, and get together. »
This totally did that for me, I stayed up way past my bed time to get to my happy ending. ☺️
Emma is all sunshine. Charlie starts our a little harder around the edges but you can see quickly that it is just a protective mechanism for him. Both of them have had their share of hard times and in each other find something they needed. Their banter is delicious and the tender moments are so sweet.
« Here’s another thing I accidentally figured out: happiness is always better with a little bit of sadness. »
The epilogue was also perfection. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to review, I was given an ARC copy of this book and my opinions are my own.

The Rom-commers was such a feel-good read. I enjoyed every second from beginning to end. The banter was perfect. I would definitely recommend to pick up. Excited to start some of Katherine Center’s other books.
Thank you to the author and publisher for the ARC!

Coming next week to a bookstore near you The Rom-Commers is Katherine Centers’s latest. An auto read author for me, I was fortunate enough to get both the digital and audio arc. I highly recommend both formats.
The Rom-Commers is the story of Emma Wheeler, whom I connected to her right away, I think mostly because I have been a caretaker myself so I was able to feel what she was going through, how she put her life on hold. Then there is Charlie Yates, the cranky screen writer who is idolized by Emma, but has no desire to have her help. He is having issues with the rom/com he is writing (though he doesn't really know it...yet).
This was a great read, there was great banter, laugh out loud moments along with a serious side - as I have come to expect with this author. It was well written with real characters in real life situations. Definitely a book and author I recommend. Be sure to read the blurb, it gives more details into the story - if you want, I actually went in blind.
My thanks to St. Martin’s Press for a digital arc and McMillan Audio for the audio arc.

Katherine Center is an author I will always read. The Rom-Commers is one of my favorites of her books. The banter is charming and the characters believable. Can an apocalyptic/action Hollywood screenwriter let go of his ego a bit to learn to write a rom-com with the help of an aspiring author?

I love this author and have read every book she has written. I enjoyed listening and reading this one as well..mostly. Emma is a wonderful person who is gives up every dream she has to take care of her father and allow her sister to live her best life. A little overboard, yes, but guilt is a powerful motivator. When Logan, her old boyfriend offers her an incredible opportunity comes to work with her favorite writer she is over the moon with excitement for the experience and the financial gain. Her sister offers to help for the period while she is away and off she goes. Well, turns out Logans offer wasn’t what it seemed to be, Charlie Yates, the author she loved was a horrible human being and her sister disappointed her beyond belief. Yes, she does finally grow a backbone and self worth and get a truly wonderful happily ever after and I was thrilled for her, but the road there was at times really cringy for me. That said, I look forward to whatever comes next from this wonderful author.

Katherine Centers does a wonderful job of creating love stories out of very imperfect situations and people. Her characters feel real and relatable in a way that just draws you in. Emma and Charlie lead very different lives but are able to connect around grief and facing life under hard circumstances. They begin as enemies and turn into lovers (one of my favorite tropes) in a way that is both sweet and fun to witness. This is a perfect summer read to balance romance and navigating heavier life topics. Thanks to Katherine Center, St. Martin Press, and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Katherine Center balances romance with big life difficulties well, as usual! I found the romance in this one to be a bit frustrating, especially the male main character and his actions. Several funny and memorable scenes in this one and I'm sure it will be a great book for summer.

Cute, funny, quirky, and heartfelt.
Emma Wheeler is an aspiring screenwriter, but her career was derailed after her father had a rock climbing accident and suffered a traumatic brain injury. She’s been his sole caretaker for 10 years and looked after her sister during that time too.
Her friend and agent, Logan, reaches out to her one day with an offer she can’t refuse: write a rom-com with legendary screenwriter Charlie Yates! She rearranges her life to go to California to work with him. But he’s not what she expected.
Katherine Center is an excellent storyteller, I can’t get enough of her rom-coms! This book made me laugh out loud, made me teary, and every emotion in between. I honestly did not want it to end.
