Loved it!! Katharine Center is one of my favorite authors and I was excited to read this book. It definitely didn't disappoint. This book was everything and perfect for the summer. For some reason I pictured Charlie as Marc Maron, who played Sam Sylvia in GLOW on Netflix. Charlie's mannerisms reminded me of Sam Sylvia (minus all the drugs and lady wrestlers), especially the hair sticking up all over after he pulled on it. I loved the relationship between Emma and Charlie. The back and forth was hilarious. Emma needed to get away from being the constant caregiver. She didn't know how to balance her life with taking care of her dad. I hated how she blamed Sylvie for her dad falling. Then got mad when her sister turned it around on her about their mom. Sylvie and Salvador were perfect caregivers. It wasn't hard to guess what would happen because Emma describes in great detail what makes up a rom-com and the steps that it follows. Loved the countrylike dancing scene and Charlie refusing to ever wear shoe leg warmers. Who doesn't know hpw to open biscuits out of a can? I loved everything about the book and was sad to see it end. Loved reading about all the shenanigans that Charlie and Emma got up to with each other, just for research for the screen play. Loved the ending, I knew who had to be behind everything at the hospital.
Definitely recommend the book. I loved the characters, writing style and story. It was a fun read that had me smiling and throughout the whole book. There's so many memorable moments between Emma and Charlie. Plus, there's the absolutely adorable Cuthbert. Love guinea pigs!! I could see it made into a movie, it's the perfect rom-com and already has the title. Look forward to reading more books by the author.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from St. Martin's Press through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This was precious! Exactly what I needed to bust my reading slump. Swoony and adorable and such a feel-good rom com. Highly recommend.

When Emma Wheeler gets the opportunity of a life time to write a romcom screenplay in LA, she’s hesitant because 1. She’s the caretaker for her medically fragile dad and 2. It’s with her favorite writer of all-time Charlie Yates. And she was right to be hesitant because it turns out he’s a jerk who doesn’t believe in love. That’s why they say don’t meet your heroes! But she could use the hefty sum of money he’s offering and she’s determined to show him romcoms are valid. What she doesn’t expect is to catch feelings in the process.
I loved this book. It’s a classic Katherine Center novel that encompasses love, humor and sadness. I teared up a couple times, which is hard to get me to do, but a few of the topics struck a personal chord with me. I really identified with Emma. Her thought processes were very similar to mine and the reasoning behind them as well. When you’ve lost someone important, it’s hard to believe in that things will go as planned. I loved seeing Emma take a chance on herself in spite of her worries and not knowing what the outcome would be.
In truth, when I think about this book what I’ll remember most won’t be the romance, but rather the messages around hope and positivity in the face of tragedy. Don’t know get me wrong I loved Emma and Charlie together. There were multiple times that I swooned at things Charlie did or said. I actually wanted to shake Emma for not seeing it sooner. And while Charlie was a jerk at times, it was clear it was a defense mechanism. His actions spoke way louder than his words. Will people be frustrated with the back and forth? Probably! But it pays off in the end!
Check this out if you’re looking for a heartwarming read with the quirky humor that’s unique to KC!
I want to warn people that there is a bit of talk about cancer in the book and for me, that’s a sensitive topic (and also why this book was meaningful to me), but I wish I had known as it made it hard for me to focus on the romance while I was worried about what might happen. How apropos given the overarching message of the book.

I absolutely loved this one!
It’s the perfect book to read while you are cozied up with a warm blanket.
It has a blend of some of my favorite tropes, enemies to lovers, grumpy MMC, friends to lovers, forced proximity, and WITTY BANTER.
Emma has given up job opportunities to take care of her father for 10 years after an accident leaves him disabled.
She has the chance to rewrite a script for famous screenwriter, Charlie Yates. He is forced to write a romcom, which is NOT his genre, and it is so terrible. but how do you help someone write a romcom who doesn’t believe in love? Emma is determined to change Charlie’s mind and create an amazing Romcom that will be a hit.
Loved this so much and if you want a romcom that will have you in your feels then pick this one up!

This was a fun book with serious undertones. A woman who loves a rom-com is supposed to team up with her favorite writer of all time to help him with his terrible rom-com movie script. Trouble is, he doesn't want her help. Spending the summer with him comes at a big sacrifice for the budding author but she perseveres, as any rom com heroine would!

I absolutely LOVED this book. The Rom-Commers might be my new favorite Katherine Center (but I've only read 3 so far).
This book had everything I wanted... except a dual POV. I LIVE for a dual POV when it comes to a moody hard-to-read MMC. HOWEVER... I don't think a dual POV would have worked the way Katherine Center wrote the book. The entire book felt like Emma was telling us a story which I loved & now that I'm writing this review.. totally makes up for the lack of dual POV.
Anyway... a MMC that doesn't believe in love? CHECK.
A FMC that believes in love and will stop at nothing to prove it exists? CHECK.
A book about writers.. screenwriters in LA? HECK YES... CHECK.
This story was absolutely sweet. I giggled.. I kicked my feet. I couldn't stop reading it. Loveable characters, cutsie romance but didn't lack ANY depth. There are some serious topics mentioned so it gave the story all the emotional feels.
To be honest.. the more I think about this book the more I love it.. I might have to up my rating on Goodreads ;)
Thank you so much for the ARC of this one.. I truly enjoyed it!!

I really loved Emma’s character. Emma has sadly been through a lot of trauma and tragedy and now she’s in charge of caring for her father. When she gets an offer to work for her favorite screenwriter, she is worried about having her sister care for their dad and for her sister to give up something important to her. But, when the stars align, Emma is in! Until she finds out the screenwriter is totally against it.
Emma is definitely the kind of person you want in your life- willing to care for her family regardless of her own dreams. It’s really aspiring although sad. I loved how she was proud of what she had been doing but Charlie did not understand at all. It’s a huge turn when he starts to understand she didn’t throw these big opportunities away for nothing. I also loved when she tore his horrible script to shreds. It was hilarious! Charlie began to grow on me as a character and he certainly had his own traumas he was working through. This was a fun story but just not my favorite. I felt like I couldn’t look past some of Charlie’s crappy behaviors regardless. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you NetGalley and St Martin’s for my eARC!

Full disclosure: I will read anything Katherine Center writes. Her books are like candy to me -- lovable characters, delicious dialogue, delightful romantic tension.
YES. YES. YES. YES.
The Rom-Commers was one of my favorites. Maybe it was the set-up (LA glam meets sweet and humble girl next door) or the "enemies to lovers" trope (give them all to me please), but I plowed through this one and WHOLE-HEARTILY enjoyed every little bit.
If you're a fan of Katherine's books, absolutely pick this one up!

The Rom-Commers is a delightful romantic comedy. It is not deep read, that is for sure but it is light and fun. It is a story about Charlie and Emma. Both are writers but Charlie has a career in writing while Emma has not been published. She has been busy taking care of her disabled father. Charlie is her idol. But Charlie is in a writer "yips" which is slump in writer's terms. Emma's high school sweetheart has recommended she help Charlie get his passion back and help him write a romantic comedy. This is a laugh out loud funny story that had me hooked from the start. If you are looking for a great easy beach read to make you feel good this is the book for you.
Thanks to #netgalley , #stmartinspress and @katherinecenter for an ARC of this delightful read.

I love and adore all of Katherine Center's books! Her writing is so easy to read and it just makes you feel good while reading. This book is no exception.
This book follows Emma and Charlie. Emma is a full time caretaker of her father that has had a severe injury and requires round the clock care. She had hopes and dreams of being a writer, but she put those aside to care for her father. There's trauma behind what happened, but I feel it's best to go into that blind.
Charlie is a award winning screenplay writer, but he is struggling after trauma of his own. When his agent, Logan, suggests that Emma come and be a ghost writer for Charlie, Emma is hesitant, but excited and Charlie is very much against it. After Charlie agrees, they spend weeks rewriting a romcom that Charlie wrote. Things go from there.
I loved this book. At first, I was not crazy about Charlie and did not feel the chemistry between Charlie and Emma, but I think that's how we were supposed to feel. It sneaks up on you and then all of the sudden you are sucked into their unusual romance. I loved all of the romcom references throughout the book. I don't like the miscommunication trope, but I think it was done well in this book.
5 stars! I can't wait to own a physical copy of this book!
Thank you to St. Martin's Press for the ARD provided through NetGalley for an honest review.

I adore Katherine Center and her books! What a cute concept for a book and more importantly the messages throughout the book. So MANY great quotes! I am looking forward to receiving my copy of the book with the hot pink sprayed edges and beautiful end pages! Another amazing read by Katherine Center!

I LOVE Katherine Center's books! With The Rom-commers, she has crafted another beautifully written, heartfelt, unforgettable love story.
Emma is an aspiring screenplay writer who has spent the last ten years caring for her dad 24/7 after his accident. She gets the chance to rewrite a rom-com screenplay with her writing idol, Charlie Yates. But, things are not straightforward, and Charlie doesn't believe in love or that love stories matter. Can Emma convince him?
This is a slow-burn, enemies-to-friends-to-lovers story set against a Hollywood backdrop. I laughed several times and cried a few, too. Both MCs have been through some very difficult things in their lives, and Center approaches these deep topics in a way that feels authentic and relatable. Their growth and emotional journey had me totally invested. It is heart-wrenching at times, but Center balances those moments with humor and a hearty dose of swoony romance.
I loved the peeks into the world of writers, the inner workings of scriptwriting, and how grumpy Charlie and sunshine Emma worked together. I also loved the forced proximity, the banter, and the romantic tension between this couple.
There's also a fun easter egg from Center's book The Bodyguard!
This gem is the perfect summer read!
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the free book!

This was my first book by Katherine Center and it definitely won't be my last! I absolutely fell in love with these characters and finished this book within a 2 day period. Of course grumpy vs. sunshine is one of my favorite tropes and Katherine Center delivered on this one.
A fantastic summer read that I enjoyed and will definitely recommend.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. The above opinions are my own.

3.75 rounded to 4!
This was my first Katherine Center read - and I ate it up! Although I loved Emma, the sunshine writer, and Charlie, the grumpy writer, I feel like I was missing soooo much backstory. I wish I could’ve gotten a bit of a deeper dive into both Characters, beyond the main motivations for their actions. At the end of the day, I laughed, which is all you can ask for in a rom-com!! I recommend this one to you if you enjoy a grumpy x sunshine romance with *love lessons* 🥰

Oh, my goodness, this book was so much fun to read.
Emma Wheeler, a struggling screenwriter, is given the opportunity to rewrite a rom-com screenplay with her author idol, Charlie Yates. Charlie Yates hates rom-coms, because Charlie Yates hates love. Yes, friends, hilarity ensues.
Center's books are full of wit and heart, and this one is no different.

This was like a love letter to romcoms and writing, and I loved that! I simply didn’t like either of the main characters. Grumpy/sunshine can be difficult because there’s a fine line. This one just ended up feeling like grumpy/doormat. It does get better the last 40% or so. I will still pick up the next Katherine Center book because I love her, and usually her books are a hit for me.

READ THIS BOOK. Especially if you're looking for a story that will hit you with all the feels. Katherine Center's books are always full of laughter, love and are so full of heart. The Rom-Commers is not any different and because my favorite by her thus far. I binged The Rom-Commers in 24 hours and it filled me with so much joy.
I adored Emma and Charlie. I loved their banter. I loved watching the relationship unfold. I love that Center brought in many other elements including grief, illness, caretaking of a loved one, and more.
Bottom line - I LOVED The Rom-Commers. Add this book to your TBR list. While it's the perfect summer read, it will be a perfect read for any time of year; especially when you're looking for a pick me up.
Thank you, St. Martin’s Press, and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

I just reviewed The Rom-Commers by Katherine Center. #NetGalley I was excited to get this book because I heard get things about Katherine Center and I don't know if my hopes were too high for this book before I read it. That being said, it was an okay book. When I started the book, I pictured Emma in her mid twenties and Charlie in his fifties so them getting together was kind of ick for me. Also, I just couldn't get into the story as mush as I thought I would.

Every book by this author has been well worth reading and I have suggested to many that she is an author to follow, to buy and to count on as a fun read. This book is no exception. Read anything by her.
Picture a small family on vacation, happy and enjoying being together when their lives change forever. One daughter is now caretake for the dad while the other finishes school. Now picture it 10 years later and both girls have a chance to really have their careers take off, but one must stay with dad who needs watching 24/7. Which one goes and which one stays?
***sort of a spoiler alert that you would know just by thinking about the title: The writer travels to LA to work with the author of her dreams, only the feeling is not reciprocated and in fact, she is rejected for the job at first. You can feel her one big chance slipping away, the return home in shame and you cheer her on to fight for this job.
The characters feel real and though we may not share her career, we can picture how we would feel in her situation. I won't ay more than that as the process has to unfold as it may. Well worth reading, better than a beach book, but it is a book that you look forward to getting everything on your to do list done so you can sit down and enjoy your reading time.
Thank you NetGalley for a advance reader copy. Honest opinions expressed here are my own and are freely given.

thank you to netgalley and the publisher for an arc in exchange for an honest review!
this was my second katherine center book and there's a lot to love about her brand of romantic comedies. there's a finer emotional thread running through the rom-commers compared to the bodyguard which was at times ridiculously silly (in a fun way) but the tone is still light and breezy despite some heavier emotional plot elements. emma was a treasure of a main character and charlie was a worthy love interest for her - although the push and pull of their relationship dynamic became a little old by the 80% mark. would definitely recommend this book for any and all romantic comedy connoisseurs.
