Katherine Center does not disappoint with her newest book, "The Rom Commers!" I loved this one! It's fun, it's cute and filled with great banter! Emma is a writer who has put her life mostly on hold for ten years in order to take care of her disabled father. Now she has received an incredible offer to come out to LA to help famous screenwriter, Charlie Yates (whom she has a huge crush on) with his rom com screenplay. One problem. Charlie doesn't believe in love and knows nothing about rom coms. So it's a rom com about writing a rom com. Of course, it's predictable for the most part but it's a book I'd recommend for sure. It's definitely not all fluff as there are some more serious issues that need to be overcome. But all in all, it's a story about not only writing a rom com but writing the best story of your life.

If you've read "The Bodyguard," you'll enjoy the Jack Stapleton cameos! Thank you to the publisher for the digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I'm sorry, I wanted to like this, but I just don't think Katherine Center is for me. It's weird that a middle-aged women is writing about middle-aged characters who literally act like they are ten years old. No grown adult acts like how Charlie and Emma acted? Even her internal monologue was like a five-year-old. Also, there was a very strange power imbalance and Charlie said multiple times that he didn't respect Emma as a writer and yet she still stuck around? I would never stay with a man who didn't respect me. Also, there were just some strange things like wa-lah hahaha what? This should have been advertised as YA and the characters aged down for the way Katherine Center writes like she hasn't reached her teenage years yet.

Thank you to SMP and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

The Rom-Commers
By: Katherine Center

Another author who I wish could write faster! This was so good!
Emma Wheeler is stuck. She has been her dad's sole caregiver for the last 10 years. After a tragic climbing accident that permanently disabled her dad and killed her mom she stepped up to take care of him. She sent her little sister to college and just kept going. When her agent and high school friend contacts her to ghost write for her absolute favorite screenwriter Charlie Yates Emma and her sister trade places and Emma heads to LA. What she quickly finds out is Charlie has the yips he hasn’t written anything in a long time and this romcom he’s trying to write is terrible. Can Emma work with the man she’s literally had a crush on for years? Can they write a good romcom when it would appear Charlie knows nothing about them?
Thanks to St. Martin’s Press, Katherine Center and NetGalley for this ARC.

if you enjoy books that will make you laugh, sad, and maybe even cry (it made me misty-eyed a few times lol) then you should pick this one up. the only thing i wished we got more of was both the MC's side story, but i will own the fact that i prefer romances that are heavy on emotional depth/character development.

🎧 i listened to a portion of this book on audiobook and loved the narration! highly recommend it!

First of all, thank you to NetGalley and St Martin's Press for providing a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. This book was so so so good. 4.75 ⭐️, but honestly might bump up to a 5⭐️ the more I sit on it.

This story is of Emma, who is an aspiring screenwriter but also caregiver for her father, who gets the opportunity of a lifetime. She leaves her dad in the hands of her little sister to move in with Charles Yates, legendary screenwriter (and Emma's favorite), to write a rom-com movie remake.

This is light-hearted and silly one moment, then romantic, then sad and reflective. No spice but the romance was so strong I didn't even notice.

(Also Katherine, could we please have a book on TJ Haywood? 🙏)

This is another win from Katherine Center. I LOVED how the relationship between Emma and Charlie developed - great banter, too! This might end up as one of my favorites from Center. She has a special knack for sucking me in and hitting me in the feels. I already want to go back and reread portions of this book.

If Katherine Center is not a go to author for you at this point, we can't be friends. We are certainly incompatible. Her books unlock a feel good, storytelling atmosphere, I show up for every single time. I always see myself, or my husband, or my coworker, or my coffee shop barrister, in her characters. Always relatable, always charming, always endearing,.

Katherine Center hits it out of the park once again! A delightful story of family, pursuing your dreams, and the belief that positivity and love can change a life. Emma and Charlie are slightly flawed and relatable, and Center's fun take on the "doesn't believe in love meets passionate defender of love in all forms" trope is fun and fresh. Center's books just keep getting better! A rare 5-star book.

I loved so much about this book. Getting to watch Emma show Charlie that romance
Is a legit genre was amazing. Romance gets a bad rap for being fluff and just a waste of time but there’s a lot more to it than that. I loved seeing him from going to a cynical non believer in love to falling in love with her. Their interactions and story was wonderful to witness. I can’t wait to see what Katherine Center comes up with next.

Emma is an aspiring rom-com screenwriter who has had to put her life on hold for the past ten years. But when she's given the opportunity to write alongside her favorite screenwriter, the award winning Charlie Yates, she finds a way to make it work. Except, the offer isn't what she was made to believe it was. Charlie, is famous for a reason, and doesn't think he needs any help. He definitely doesn't need any advice about love, or does he? Over the next few weeks they will work towards writing an award winning screenplay, and try not to fall in love themselves!
This was a fun cute story, but dealt with some tough topics as well. I enjoyed getting to know Emma and Charlie and coming along as they learned about each other. The writing style was a little different as Emma seemed to be talking to the reader (breaking that fourth wall) some. I have loved all of the @katherinecenter books I've read and this one didn't break that streak! 😁
It's scheduled to come out next Tuesday, 11 June, so check it out!!

One thing about @katherinecenter books is that they always leave you with that feel good feeling. The Rom-Commers is no exception and a great light and fun read between some of the darker books I’d read in May.

-grumpy x Sunshine
-Forced Proximity
-A touch of Enemies to Lovers
-Complicated Families

Two writers working together to fix this movie script and testing out what makes a scene romantic? You know that’s a recipe for fun! I loved Emma right from the get go but Charlie had to grow on me a bit. He had a lot to work through but when he finally came out of his grumpy shell, I felt for him!

I started this one with the E-book and they switched back and forth with audio. I loved both versions!

The Rom-Commers comes out June 11! Thank you @macmillan.audio and @stmartinspress for my advanced copy!

The rom-commers
By Katherine Center

Emma Wheeler is a failed screenwriter who is asked by her ex to ghostwrite a romcom with her absolute favourite writer ever, Charlie Yates. She reads the manuscript and it is so incredibly horrifying that she agrees even though it will mean leaving her father in the care of her younger sister and flying across the country to L.A., where Charlie lives. Things get even more complicated when Emma arrives at Charlie’s mansion only to find out that he had no idea a ghostwriter had been hired to work with him on this project.

This book was absolutely delightful. I loved the anxiety rep and the chronic health issues faced by the characters. So many of Emma’s thoughts completely echoed what my own would have been. They made her worries feel so real to me. Emma is a sweet sensitive snowflake child and Charlie is the doofus who brings her down all the time but she just can’t seem to let him go or down. Katherine Center always does a magical job of showing you her characters tumbling into love and these two are absolutely no exception.

There are so many fantastic moments in this one too. So many times that I teared up reading. Some absolutely crushing quotes about how tragedy is a guarantee in this life. How what’s important is what we do with the time we are each given. I always find that as I close any book by Katherine Center, I’m forced to look at life just a little bit differently. Appreciate the small moments of joy that surround the tragedies we face together. Her books always seem to change my perspective and open me up to new ways of thinking about life and love and loss.

Pick this one up if you love rom-coms, closed door romances, stories about writing and the human condition.

This was a cute rom-com. I have to admit I liked Emma defining what makes a rom-com as it’s not something that I’ve been able to articulate. I did have moments with both of our main characters where I was a little disgusted by their choices/responses but overall I did like them both and thought their romance worked. I liked the barrier that almost broke them apart (even if it was pretty predictable). But predictable in a rom-com works for me. I will say I had a hard time with Emma staying despite all of the horrible things said about her and I don’t love that savior/martyr complex she seemed to have going on. I loved her father and sister but didn’t like most of the other side characters much. Emma is a screenwriter but due to circumstances she couldn't control she mostly is a teacher and caretaker for her father. Her ex-boyfriend and agent calls and tells her that her writing hero Charlie Yates needs someone to help him re-write a horrible romantic comedy screenplay and after much hesitation she heads to LA. Of course nothing goes as planned (what kind of rom-com has things going according to plan?) and some sparks and conflict fly between our main characters. I listened to the first quarter of this on audiobook and liked the narrator a lot. She really brought Emma to life. Of course with impatience (and a long flight) I switched to kindle and devoured the rest. Overall I gave it 4.5 stars rounded up because I just enjoyed it.

Katherine center did it again. I DEVOURED this audiobook. Every time I had a spare second, I turned it on.

I loved the characters, I loved their story. Katherine Center always gives her characters some adversity they are managing through while falling in love. Both of these characters have dealt with some heavy stuff, but are able to work through it.

I could be one of those cool people that times their review with pub day, but I wanted to talk about this one as soon as I finished. It comes out next week, so you don’t have long to wait. The audio narration was well done, and Katherine reads her own authors note to you at the end, which I loved.

They need to make this one into a movie. 🤞🏻 I’m manifesting it. I want to watch these two fall in love.

Thank you to @macmillan.audio for the ALC and @netgalley . And thank you to @katherinecenter for this delightful journey.

Thank you so much NetGalley and Katherine Center for the opportunity to read this ARC!

I loved the format, style and tone of The Rom-Commers so much! Lots of banter, laughter and even some tears! This one had me all in the feels! There were a few times when I felt like the two leads ( Emma and Charlie) were a tad immature, but we all have character flaws and it did help develop the characters. The story was really cute and grabbed me from the beginning. I felt all the emotions as reading The Rom- Commers and really enjoyed this read!! 4.5⭐️

I completely fell in love with everyone in this story! Well maybe not everyone. I didn’t really like T.J but apparently I wasn’t the only one.
Emma story was beautiful everything that she went through in her life tugged at my heart. Charlie’s story wasn’t any different. This book was so beautifully written.
Two writers come together to write a rom com. One is very hopeful and believes in all things romance and the other is cynical that doesn’t believe love exists. How will the rom com be written you ask? Well you’re going to have to read the book to find out!

Overall, I found most of this book to be funny. I got a little tired of "Charlie yates" being used over and over again, along with how he treated her. She martyred herself a lot and honestly? I got a little bored with the 4th wall breaks to talk to the reader. I also wasn't a fan of the third act break up. This is actually a 3.5 ☆ read, but rounding to 4.
