I know all greek retellings are fanfiction in a sense, however this one feels exceptionally like fanfiction in it's lack of originality. I was waiting for it to do something to really make itself stand out, but I have read better queer Greek retellings that feel like an homage to the source while also being exceptional in it's own right. This is not that.

Will not be reviewing this even though I read it, I do not want to support this author because of the way she treated fellow debut authors.

Thanks so much to Del Rey for the chance to read this! I finished a few weeks ago and have been thinking over the read. I loved the open conceit, and there's something quite badass about a marriage of convenience between a princess and god. But ultimately, the story just fell flat for me. There is a lot of classical references and complex, overly discussed power dynamics, which make it hard to really believe in their quickly seeded love. Also, the action only amps up in the final 100 pages or so (I realize this is a duology, so that makes sense, but left for an uneven read).

All in all, I'm grateful to have had a peek at this new title, but I'm not sure I'd read the second part. More dedicated space opera fans will feel differently though. Thanks again!

I did read one chapter of this prior to the news breaking, and I didn't like the writing at all. Too much emphasis in every sentence in every paragraph.

I am disappointed by the actions taken by this author in regards to the Goodreads review fiasco. I had to rate this 1 star.

I got about 42 pages into this book when the controversy surrounding the author hit. I was honestly struggling with the concept because it felt like many genres in one and was having trouble figuring out the story. I’m sure I would have stuck with and finished it but do not forsee it having being an above 3 star read. Due to the controversy surrounding the author and their alleged actions I will not be continuing my read of this arc.

Due to the controversy around this author and the fact the book has been pulled from publications, I will not be reading and reviewing this book. Thank you for the publisher for providing a copy, I am leaving this non review to clear it from my review list on NetGalley.
