What a fun cookbook! One of my kids is obsessed with smoothies right now. I loved the section on prepping foods for making smoothies, including zesting and grating. Most recipes have a picture, which I feel is a crucial part of a cookbook. This cookbook has inspired us with some great ideas we cannot wait to try!

My kids love this book! They are all about smoothies right now, and they have really enjoyed creating all of them in this book! They are easy to follow, and quick to make. My younger kids enjoy the jokes as well:) Thanks NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

This is a neat cookbook for kids/families. There are a variety of recipes and tips throughout and the recipes are really unique and creative. It has a section for allergy swaps which is great. My favorite recipes are the Pumpkin Pie Smoothie, Banana Berrylicious, Sweet Summer Watermelon Refresher and the 3 Ingredient Fudge Pops, I would recommend this! Special Thank You to Erin Fletter, Zeitgeist and NetGalley for allowing me to read a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is a terrific first cookbook for a young chef! The first part of the book goes in depth on the how to prepare the smoothies. It’s well written for little ones! The very best part, imho, is the section for allergy swaps. My daughter can’t eat bananas (which is generally in 75% of smoothies) so I’ve always skimmed past those recipes. This book gives swaps for quite a few allergens.

Erin Fletter, co-owner of Barolo Grill in Denver and the co-founder, and self-proclaimed Food Geek in Chief of Sticky Fingers Cooking—children’s cooking schools (physical and online), in an impressive, easy to understand, colorful, well-executed, and fantastically hyperlinked electronic edition—created a healthy kids’ recipe guide, “Kid Smoothies—Smoothie Recipes Kids Will Love to Make.”

Easy enough for middle school students to follow and prepare, yet tempting enough for adults to enjoy themselves. These diverse recipes sound absolutely delicious, and most importantly, most have secret components that are exceptionally nutritious incorporated into the mixes—like avocado, spinach, white beans, green peas, and other antioxidant and fiber-rich ingredients.

The first smoothie recipe listed is the one Erin attributes to learning from her mother, and notes drinking almost daily as a youngster. It sounds absolutely wonderful to me as well, so I’m going to indulge you with the basics.

In a blender, combine frozen pineapple chunks, frozen mango chunks, fresh spinach, a banana, honey, and milk of choice. This is her Mighty Green Machine Smoothie, and it sounds like it will keep everyone’s body finely tuned and raring to race into a new day.

JoyReaderGirl1 graciously thanks NetGalley, Author Erin Fletter, and Publisher Z Kids, an imprint of Zeitgeist, a division of Penguin Random House LLC for this advanced reader’s copy (ARC) for review.

I recently got really into making smoothies so when I saw this book up on Netgalley I had to get it and see if I could get any fun new recipes to try out!

And did I? Yes. I got a few I want to try, like the Banana Coconut Sundae Shake which sounds so yummy! Or Orange Blossom Oasis! Or Nectar of the Gods. Or Heart Beet Smoothie! Oh, and I definitely want to try the Fudge Pops (though not taking hazelnut spread as I would die, so I will just grab my own chocolate spread without any death, haha). And that Sunday Morning Cereal Smoothie Bowl, DA YUM! As you can see, I got various options I want to try so badly. I just need to get some ingredients and I guess see if I can find some room in the freezer to get some ice cubes ready because a lot of these recipes use them for some reason. Oh, and I hope that it is OK that I use fruit as it is and not frozen. My freezer doesn't have endless room, haha.

The recipes are fun, easy to follow, and there are delicious photographs everywhere that made my stomach rumble in agreement (though some he shouldn't rumble to because of death, but hey). I loved each introduction with the recipe along with jokes. Yes, each recipe has a joke/riddle. Like Plummy Yummy: "Why did the plum cross the road? To prove it wasn't a "chicken"!" I really looked forward what (dad) joke we would get next. I also love that each recipe came with tips, like if you couldn't find x try it with y. Or wear latex gloves if you are working with x product. I always appreciate it when cooking books/books about food give us extra tips.

The only thing that I wasn't a fan of was that there was a lot of repetition, it got a bit samey and at times I had to do something else to get my brain back on track.

All in all though, I am really happy with this book and I will try out some recipes! I would recommend this one if you want to find some yummy smoothies/smoothie-related yums.

Definitely worth the addition to your kitchen cookbooks. The recipes in this book are fun, fast, healthy, and delicious. Until now my blender has been used to make milkshakes but with smoothies you can be much more inventive. My favorite-The Downside-Up Pineapple Smoothie! Delicious 😋

A good book of smoothie recipes geared towards kids. There are a few smoothie bowl and smoothie pop recipes also included. The intro section covers ingredient prep, ingredients, tools, blending, etc.
The recipes cover a wide variety of flavors and ingredients. I wish that each recipe had a photo. All the recipes also indicate they make "1-2 servings" but I couldn't find a volume and would have appreciated that. Are they all written to make the same amount, or do some make more or less?
The book does encourage kids to create their own smoothie recipes and has a link to a template. There are also some kid-friendly jokes sprinkled throughout.

This is an excellent book for kids and their grown ups alike! My daughter is learning to love making things in the kitchen, and this book will be a perfect book to get her to continue fostering this love for creating new dishes to enjoy! It features smoothies, smoothie bowls, and smoothie pops. It has something for everyone, and I am excited to try some of the recipes myself!
There is a great break-down of safety and equipment guidelines before getting to the recipes. There are also beautiful, brightly colored photos illustrating the recipes throughout.

Here we have an cookbook for kids that wanna do something healthy to drink or eat (it includes recipes for smoothie bowls).

My 5 yo was looking in it with me and she thought everything in it looked really yummie so we tried to do a few and she did most of the work since she can do anything by herself according to herself with supervision.

If you have a smoothie loving kid at home or perhaps at work and are out of ideas then this might help you out like it did for me.

Synopsis (From Netgalley, the provider of the book to review)
*******************************************************

A healthy kids’ cookbook of fun, easy smoothie recipes that teaches kids basic kitchen skills without using a stove or tons of equipment!
Dragon’s Lair Cocoa Smoothie, Vanilla Bean Dream Delight, Pineapple Paradise, Strawberry Lemonade Stand Pops—these are just some of the yummy, kid-approved recipes you’ll find in Kid Smoothies by Erin Fletter, co-founder of Sticky Fingers Cooking. In this book, kids ages 6 to 9 will gain confidence in the kitchen as they take charge making delicious smoothies from start to finish. They’ll learn to handle basic tools and equipment and prep like a pro—cutting fruit, zesting citrus, operating a blender, and more. Filled with recipes for refreshing, creamy, and fruity smoothies, smoothie bowls, and smoothie pops, there is a fresh and healthy treat for everyone in the family to enjoy.

I don’t like smoothies – in fact, I hate the texture of them – but they are an easy way to feed your kid although a bit lazy. I am a full fan and proponent for kid lead weaning where they eat a version of Mom and Dad’s meal as I don’t run a restaurant. I would never ask my kid WHAT DO YOU WANY FOR LUNCH? as I saw my sister-in-law get played by her kids and making three meals. (or try Spaghetti Os where one wants them cold, one at room temperature and one hot … such a fool she was!)

The book is to show kids how to make smoothies – kids involved in the cooking of their meals tend to eat them more often, but is a smoothie really a meal? I guess so as you can hide veggies in them but to me, they are a cop-out unless you are seriously pressed for time or if you cater to your kid’s every whim … yeah, good luck with that! And given that a lot of smoothies have as much sugar and fat as a milkshake, what is the point of trying to call them healthy???

Great photos, great instructions about teaching basic kitchen skills to kids ages 6-9 and recipes if you are into this kind of thing. (Make your kids eat real food at a meal with maybe a small smoothie for dessert or you are setting yourself up.)

A fun, healthy, and delicious cook book that introduces children and first time cooks to the kitchen, safety, prepping, and bit about the fruits and veggies.
Recipes are easy to follow, have great tips/tricks and are complete with a fun fruit and veg joke

I was craving a smoothie when I saw this pop up on netgalley. I am always looking for ways to sneak different veggies into my diet. Yes, I'm a grown adult who eats like a kid. SUE ME!

My favorite was the green smoothie which I just so happened to have all the ingredients for. There are truly so many options and it even has a section giving examples of how to create your own recipes. While this didn't apply to me (as I'm a grown adult) there were quite a few instructions in the beginning to help kids learn to cut fruit and prepare veggies!

I can't wait to try more recipes from this book!

As a mother of a 2yo, I initially just intended to try out some of the "healthy recipes" in this book. Turns out those recipes are meant to be "made by kids", not just "for" them.
Not gonna lie, I wasn't expecting it to be this good. The writing is excellent : The recipes are easy to understand, each step is described in great details and the introductory paragraphs are fun to read.
There's a whole chapter on safety and prepping as well as a conversion chart and it's just perfection.

I also greatly appreciated the fact that the author repeatedly encouraged kids to be creative and invent their own recipes, there's even an exercice sheet at the end of the book that serves that purpose.

Having some professional experience in recipe development and food styling, I appreciated the quality of the photographs. They are appropriate for a young target (colorful, with the right amount of accessories ...) without going over the top as it is often the case when we deal with kids friendly material.

I will only say that even though the names of the recipes are fun and creative, some might be kind of misleading for the kids (for instance, the PB&J don't actually taste like a drinkable version of a PB&J - it's good nonetheless)

I do recommend this cookbook as a gift to children that are interested in cooking, but also to parents who want to make healthy snacks for their kids, there're a lot of interesting ideas and useful tips, I learned a thing or two myself !

Thanks to NetGalley and Zeitgeist (Penguin Random House) for giving me access to a digital copy of this (amazing!) book in exchange of an honest review.

Great tips for kids in the intro (prepping fruit, cleanup etc). Bright beautiful photos. The names of the smoothies are very fun and kid friendly. There is a nice variety of recipes in here. If you don't like bananas there are still a few recipes for you to use. This would be a great cookbook for a smoothie loving kid.

What a fabulous cookbook for kids! My kiddo is a huge fan of smoothies, but a lot of smoothie recipes feel geared towards adults so we end up making the same 1-2 smoothie recipes over and over. This cookbook offers a lot more variety plus simple kitchen skills and easy to follow recipes! Even the names are appealing, like Dragon’s Lair Cocoa Smoothies. We will definitely be making some of these recipes on repeat at our house!

This would make a perfect gift for kids who like to be hands on in the kitchen!

A very nice book, i love the recipes, I'll for sure make them with the girl i'm babysitting. We often make smoothies together and these ingredients seem really nice! Also nice that you included smoothie bowls and ice pops!
