I normally dig historical novels and m/m romances, but this book did not strike me on either category. The tale is obviously one of forbidden love between two young men who started a sexual relationship when they were younger and want to continue it despite societal obligations. The way they solve their dilemia is a tad disturbing as another user has pointed out. Not only that, but everything is tied up in a neat little package within two pages. With the short length of the book, I could have used a little more in the areas of plot resolution and character development.

The biggest problem I had with this book was the main characters tendency to refer to their relationship as cousins. Sure, they're distantly related with as much blood between them as I share with the queen, but it's very offputting for two characters to mention their familial relationship right before they are about to engage in sexy times. It makes me very much not want to read about sexy fun times. However, it's a minor quibble that some people might not mind at all.

The book was entertaining enough for a short read, but I don't think I would take the time to read it again.

I've read several M/M historical novels, but this one was the first with highlanders.
The plot is interesting: Tavish would be the Laird of the Creachann-Dubh clan and of course in the future he would have to marry and pursue the lineage. But he had a crush on his cousin, the ginger Iain Munro.

The two could not be more different, and their relationship began years ago.
This was a not-so-secret secret. But while they were young, everyone in the clan pretended not to know, but as the time came for Tavish to assume his responsibilities, the romance would have to stop.

That's when Iain has a plan (which I did not like very much, but, no spoiler) so they could continue to be lovers.

The dynamics of the two together is beautiful to behold. Although their love encounters appear in the form of fast and stolen moments, before someone caught them in the act.
Although his ending the way the reader wants, I still think that Iain's plan had some mistakes as to how Tavish would approach it all.
But it's a delightful read for anyone who wants to experience a gay romance with highlanders.

I really enjoyed this novella from Amelia C Gormley. I like historical reads, with an emphasis these days on historical M/M, and I do like a man in a kilt. Very sexy, very romantic tale of two young men, cousins, over a four year period from a rocky beginning to a realistic but good ending. I read and loved the Impulse Trilogy Inertia, Acceleration and Velocity and The Laird's Forbidden Lover just added to my desire to read all of this author's books as they come out.

If you like -

Historical M/M, with an emphasis on Scotland

Some authenticity with the brogue (not just contemporary speak that would have been out of place.)

Really nice MC's
