This book wasn't for me. It was hard for me to read and get into. I felt bored while reading. I think its because of the comedy aspect of it isn't the scene of books I normally read. The author's writing style also isn't for me as well.

3.5 stars
Hate to Fake It to You was overall a quirky and fun read, but something about it just didn't quite hit the mark for me. That being said it was still really cute and kept me laughing throughout!

A quirky and delightful rom com that takes a playful spin on social media and identity, and the impacts of our digital lives. Some plot points fell a little predictable but overall a good read.
Many thanks to St.. Martin’s Press and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I tried t read this a good many times, but it never really engaged me. I wish I was able to read it further and enjoy it, but it failed to interest me and it's a DNF.

I love a chaotic rom com then you add in goats.. say less. This book gave some good laughs, romance and defiantly summer vibes. The social media aspect was something I think most everyone can relate to. I do wish there had been a bit more in the way of building chemistry with the love interest but other than that I would recommend this to friends.

Overall this book was a light rom-com with plenty of back and forth commentary. I like having the two points of view, from Libby and Jefferson. Three friends make up a social media guru, Lillibet. Libby is the writer, Jean the artist and Keoki the chef with each one having their personal touch. Hildy, an influencer, and Jefferson, wildlife photographer, fly to Hawaii to meet Lillibet and everything spirals from there.
Had a hard time getting into the book at first but picked up after the first couple of chapters. Would love to see this book with actual pictures that go with Lillibet’s posts as it would bring a nice aesthetic to the book to see the picture and caption instead of just reading it.

This book had me actually LOLing!! i loved the banter between the characters. if you are a lover of RomComs, then i would recommend this book!

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read this romcom. Unfortunately it wasn’t the book for me. I could tell the author tried hard to be funny, but it really wasn’t funny. And it wasn’t romantic. I spent most of the book cringing at all the lying and stupidness of the girls. Libby was all personality, but Jefferson was a dud. We don’t get to know him and feel his attraction to Libby. Maybe I’m too old for this kind of story, but it wasn’t for me.

I enjoyed this as just a quick-read rom com! There were parts that were laugh out loud funny, and a few that were a little too cringey. Some of the side characters were to obnoxious, but the main characters were so compelling and made up for the ones I didn't like. It would probably be a fun read for someone who has been to Hawaii!

ARC Review: Hate to Fake It to You
Releases on July 16, 2024
I enjoyed the banter and there were laughable moments but I couldn’t connect with the characters or the plot. It felt forced.
Thank you to NetGalley, Amanda Sellet and St. Martin's Press | St. Martin's Griffin for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review. #NetGalley #HateToFakeItToYou

An enjoyable and unique romance! The premise of this book grabbed my attention straight away and I was excited to receive an early copy! I feel like this is the perfect book to read on a beach somewhere so be sure to add it to your tbr list!!

this was a quick easy read. It makes a good beach read. Likeable characters and location. enjoyed the story.

I received this book as an eARC for an honest review. Thank you NetGalley.
Hate to Take it to You was a cute and fun summer read. The characters were not super relatable unless you are Instagram-famous for pretending to be someone you are not, but overall I still had a lot of fun while reading this book. It was comical to see the chaos that Libby and her crew got into. There was a lot of laugh out loud moment, but the whole story was so far-fetched and unbelievable, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing since it did make it entertaining.
I feel like I didn’t know enough about Hildy to make her side of the story make sense. The history between her and Jefferson could have been explained a little more. Also, Jean is still a bit of a mystery to me. Maybe it’s intentional to set her up as the main focus of a follow up book? I loved Keoki and his family. I wanted to give his grandmother a huge hug.
Overall, the book started out slow, but if you can put reality aside for some time and just go with it, it’s a hilarious take on a modern screwball comedy. I was laughing so hard at times, and the goats make it worthwhile. A fun read, but I don’t anticipate it being something I will read more than once.

I really liked the premise and I was excited to read it. But it fell flat for me. I tried to pick it back up a few times but it was a dnf for me.

Thank you to Amanda Sellet, St. Martin's Griffin, and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
How cute is this cover?! I love it. Unfortunately, I wasn't a big fan of this book. To me, the main characters didn't have a connection and I couldn't connect to them.
There were one or two times I did laugh, but other than that I felt like the plot dragged.

While I like the premise of this book, it is extremely hard to read. The story jumps from one half thought to another and I am extremely lost after just a few chapters. I think given some time to develop, this could someday be an enjoyable read. As it stands, I can’t recommend it.

Just couldn't get into it. Everything fell flat for me. It sounded good and the premise was intriguing but maybe I'm just told old to enjoy this one especially with the whole fake influencer persona going on.
Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC

With a cover and a premise like this book has I totally expected five stars but man this was a chore to finish. Right off the bat I was overly confused on the setting the characters and when chapter two switched to DIFFERENT characters, I would have liked some sort of clarification/heads up.
But as the story went on it got worse. Every single character was extremely insufferable and with no connection to them, I didn’t care what happened. I liked the authors note and how the island setting was a tribute to her real life but even that could have been done better. And the whole influencer aspect was intriguing but confusing because she was a fake character?
Ugh so much potential with no execution.

This was a book that was a quick, easy, breezy read. I really enjoyed the characters - so relatable. And the banter between all the characters was hilarious! This is the first time I have read one of Amanda Sellet books, but it will not be the last. I highly recommend this book, for me it was just a ray of sunshine. If you are having a difficult time in your life this is a great book to devour, I read this book while getting chemotherapy and it helped the time go by. Excellent book!

Amanda Sellet succeeds in creating a modern day screw ball/romcom which addresses one of our most revered contemporary villians, the social media influence. Highly entertaining mischievousness at play.
