This one was a fun, kind of zaney read. The premise was definitely unique but not really believable, but then again we don’t always read romcoms for their basis in reality! If you’re looking for an easy read that will be a light-hearted escape from reality, check this one out.

Libby lives with her best friend on Oahu, working hard to pay the bills. She runs a blog that started as a joke where she writes as Lillibet, who is a rich, healthy lifestyle influencer. When she is contacted for a job opportunity AS Lillibet, she is forced to pretend.

What I liked:
-This book was so funny. I was dying laughing at all the jokes and banter. I especially loved all of the dialogue from Hildy, she was awesome.
-I love a good “pretend to be someone you aren’t “ storyline. I thought this one played very well, I was engrossed the whole way through.
-The romance was sweet. (No spice factor, so keep that in mind!)

4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Very entertaining read, also the audiobook was excellent. At about 30% into the book I realized that this author also wrote By The Book which I ADORED. I can’t believe I didn’t realize that, I would have tried to prioritize this book sooner.

This book was a DNF for me. I got to 30% and decided it was not for me. Hopefully it will be a good fit for someone else!

This one was just okay. I'm not a big fan of the lying trope and it was just really out there. I would try the author again though.

A fun, light, summery read. Libby lives a double life as a fake influencer but questions if the secret is worth keeping up when she meets Jefferson. To me, it was very unfair for Jean to give up her part of the secret while expecting Libby to keep up her end of the deal.
Thank you to NetGalley for this advanced reader copy.

This is a silly romcom with funny characters, lots of chaos and a few cute goats. If you’re looking for a fun, silly, and completely unbelievable rom-com to escape reality, look no further. This is a good read if you are looking for a break from some heavier reads and need something light.

Fun, light and quirky, but for me, there just wasn’t much to latch onto. This was a very surface level read and maybe because it is literally just about influencers and I just couldn’t find myself getting attached to any of the characters. I was more just annoyed by them at times. This is a good read if you are looking for a break from some heavier reads and need something light.
Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for providing this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I loved the story, but I wish the character's had better personalities!! They kind of ruined some of the moments, but I loved the setting.

I couldn't get into this one, and then my audiobook download expired, I may try again with the digital copy. Thank you for my copy!

This one didn't really do it for me, I wanted to love it, the cover is sooo cute and the premise sounded intriguing, but I just found myself getting frustrated and fed up with the characters. If you are looking for a totally unbelievable rom-com that's fast paced and silly, then this one might be for you, it will definitely help you escape from reality for a bit!

I really had difficulty connecting with the female main character. Her narrative voice sounded too immature and unformed. I think this is partially due to my disenchantment with the tendency of so many contemporary romances featuring heroines who are social media starlets. I find this choice extremely unrealistic and unrelatable.

Thank you to St Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.
And honestly? I didn’t love it. I struggled with the characters, the story (felt very convoluted and confusing), and the insane lack of communication.
Note to self - don’t choose a book that has miscommunication as a trope.
I would like to try the author again to see if I like a future book.

This book is a lot. Like, more than just rom-com hijinks over-the-top. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing considering the FMC is supposed to be a hot mess express. The MMC is lovely and cinnamon roll-y and all the good things. But I didn’t care for the best friend. She’s too mean too often, and I found her unnecessarily hurtful. I can’t believe she’ll have an entire book for herself. All that said, some of the dialogue did have me actually laughing out loud, so that was fun.

"Hate to Fake It to You" by Amanda Sellet is a romantic comedy. It is a slow burn filled with some laughs but all in all, I couldn't really connect as a reader.
I found myself getting increasingly irritated with the characters as they continued to withhold their secrets and became more outlandish in the process.
I do think that many will enjoy this read, it just wasn't for me.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for gifting me this ARC.

This was a fun, light-hearted read. I felt it was pretty fast-paced, had decent conflicts/obstacles occurring between the FMC and MMC that helped to keep them apart while allow them to build the attraction and tension between them. The storyline of being a fake influencer as part of a social experiment/social commentary was pretty fun for me to read, given how inundated in society social influencers are right now.
There were some scenes that had me laughing out loud, especially the goat getting loose.
An enjoyable read and I will look for more books from the author in the future.
Thanks to the publisher for the early copy.

Hate to Fake It to You by Amanda Sellet had such promise from the description, but unfortunately didn't deliver as I had hoped. It is the story of Libby Lane using the name Lillibet as her alter ego, a super fake social media influencer. The whole charade began as a funny joke between Libby and her friends, it was never intended to be anything beyond that. But when a real social media influencer came across Love, Lillibet things started to go haywire. The story was cute, but the crossing storylines felt disconnected at times.

Unfortunately like many other readers this was a miss for me, dnf at 15%
Thank you netgalley for the earc.

This is a slow burn, low spice rom-com. A bit ridiculous, but funny and light-hearted, this is a great beach read for your end of summer plans. The characters are a bit unbelievable and clueless, but lovable and you'll find yourself rooting for Libby lane and Jefferson to find their happiness together through the fake personas and white lies.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I am sorry but I will not be finishing this one. I am 25% into it and I absolutely hate all of these characters with the exception of Keoki the chef friend. But the main characters are just so unlikeable, the best friend is a psychopath and the random Mr L is so creepy. I apologize since I do not like to do this but I just am so exhausted already to try and get through it.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I thought the humor was on point. I laughed out loud multiple times. The story was entertaining too. I think where it fell a little flat was the romance, which is tough when you’re reading a romance novel. I just didn’t believe the connection as easily as it was being shown to me. I still a good time reading this book, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a super swoony romance.
