A thought provoking novel that explores doctors, modern medicine, and ethics. Fascinating.
Many thanks to Black Rose Writing and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

There are 2 parallel stories here. The main one follows an overworked medical intern while he tries to deal with stressors at work and in his personal life. The second story is set in the past and is about a committee trying to decide who to allocate the limited medical resources to. The latter story was somewhat repetitive and felt almost like science fiction. Unfortunately, I didn’t relate to the intern (despite having been an intern myself many years ago), but I recognized the misogynistic work environment. Suicide is a common theme, and how people cope with stressors (or fail to, apparently).
I won a free copy of this book (thanks to the author & publisher!) and am voluntarily providing an honest review.

I really enjoyed the medical thriller “The Algorithm Will See You Now” by JL Lycette, so I was really happy to receive an ARC of her new book, “The Committee Will Kill You Now” from Net Galley. The author, a physician herself, pulled me into the story from the very first page when an overworked and sleep-deprived intern’s colleague commits suicide (or did she?). We are taken on a very emotional ride as Noah uncovers an old-boys medical network that can decide who can live and who can die. As this story is rooted in historical facts concerning kidney dialysis, it’s all the more terrifying. This is a must read for anyone who likes medical thrillers! A strong five stars.

I really enjoyed the use of the author’s physician knowledge to make this story work extra. It had a great story overall and I was hooked from the first page of it. JL Lycette does a fantastic job when writing this and making the characters realistic. I was never bored when reading this and thought it had a great drama going on.

I loved The Algorithm Will See You Now, and I was not disappointed with this one. It’s not a sequel, but has similar themes and while there is some cross-over character-wise, this works just fine as a stand alone. Noah is a great character with a lot of depth, and your heart will go out to him as you read about him struggling to move forward and keep up with everything expected of him. Lycette does a chilling job of bringing everything to life, and knowing this is solidly rooted in a historical basis only adds to the feeling. Although it’s a medical thriller, you don’t have to be part of the medical profession to enjoy or understand it, as it’s made very accessible for the lay person. Highly recommend!

This is a great second book, not exactly a sequel, two recurring characters. The very serious
subject matter is factionalized, and very well done. For readers with no medical background
you should know that a lot of the elements of the story have strong basis in fact, while being
told with personal characters and situations. This is a medical mystery thriller of epic proportions.
I would suggest reading the first book, “The Algorithm Will See You Now,” just to get background
on the characters likely to be regulars in the series. It is a good book on its own, of course.
My thanks to Black Rose Writing and NetGalley for the download of this book for review purposes.

WOW where to start? the fact that the author was writing from personal experience in the medical industry really shone through in the best way possible; believed every aspect of the characters and their world & also cared about them so deeply by the end. the way the god committee storyline was woven in was seamless, and i adored the choice to include transcripts to communicate what actually went on in the meetings. minus one star purely because i wasn’t overjoyed with the ending but i love a completely miserable ending so very much personal preference. will definitely be reading more from this author.
