Excellent continuation of the Soul's Gate series. Really makes me think about my spiritual life and what God could do in my life if I'd just let Him.

Every time I read Jim’s work, I know I’m in for some prophetic moments. Same thing happened this time.

Jim recently visited one of my other blogs, Seriously Write, and explained he writes without outlining first. I think that method allows for more surprises. This was not a predictable story.

Near the beginning of the story (first third), one of our beloved characters faces a situation that isn’t going well for him. I thought, as I was reading, this element would be extended over most of the book. But then, Jim surprised me with how he handled it. (I won’t say more, because I don’t like spoilers.) I cheered!

The story’s pace never lagged. Again, as with his earlier novels, Jim tackled unusual subject matter. The premise of the Well Spring series is that some trained warriors enter other people’s souls in order to help them get free. It’s not biblical, but it’s interesting. And I was willing to suspend disbelief.

As with book one, he also tackles religious spirits here, and I appreciated his interesting approach. Just when you think you know where he’s going, question yourself again.

After reading Soul’s Gate, I had the occasion to listen to the audio version. I’m hopeful for the same chance this time because I’d welcome the opportunity to experience this story again.

Highly recommended.
