I’m not going to lie- I was very hesitant to read this as the author’s previous book, “Gone Tonight” was not one of my favorites. However, Sarah Pekkanen redeemed herself with “House of Glass”, because I absolutely enjoyed everything about this book! The writing and the storyline were absolutely remarkable!
In this story we have Stella Hudson, who is appointed counsel for Rose Barclay. Rose is a nine year old girl whose parents are going through a bitter divorce, and she has also just witnessed the death of her nanny. During this traumatic time, Rose has developed traumatic mutism and she cannot speak. Stella can relate to Rose because when Stella was a young girl she witnessed the death of her mother, and then developed traumatic mutism herself.
Because Rose’s parents are divorcing, it is Stella’s job to spend time with Rose and her parents to see who would be the better parent for Rose to live with once they divorce. We have the wealthy, uptight Beth Barclay- her mother. Then there is Ian Barclay, more down to earth and not so wealthy- her father. We soon learn that Ian’s mother, Harriet has lived with the Barclay’s for several years and is witness to many events that has happened within the family.
Which brings us to the death of the nanny, Tina. Tina fell to her death through her third story bedroom window. Was she pushed? Was it an accident? Or was it suicide? And did Rose witness what really happened that night? Also why are the parents replacing all the glass in the house? Even the mirrors are being replaced…

initial thoughts: just okay. While I really enjoy Sarah's books, this one fell a little short for me. I was hoping to feel a bit more connected to the characters, and the second story line of Stella trying to find out what happened to her mother took away (in my opinion) from the main story line of: what happened to Tina?
will definitely pick up whatever this author puts out next though.

So this was a very solid thriller. I liked the premise of it and the twists we get and I loved it took place in the DMV (D.C., Maryland, and Virginia) area. The main character, Stella Hudson, was very interesting and I loved the deep dive we get into her past and why her marriage to someone who was perfect, went south.
"House of Glass" follows Stella Hudson who is a best interest attorney, she's pulled into cases involving children in custody cases. Her mentor and friend recommends she takes on the case of Rose Barclay. Rose is 9 and her nanny plunged to her death, and many think either her mother or father did it. But Stella is starting to wonder about Rose...
"House of Glass" was really good. I loved the premise of a house where all of the glass is slowly being removed. And us following Stella as she tries to determine what is best for Rose, but slowly unearths who murdered the nanny and why. She's an interesting character and I could have read about her for a while.
I always loved the other characters we get to know, the police detective, Stella's ex, her neighbor, and of course the Barclays.
The flow works from beginning to end. The setting of the house just feels oppressive and scary. All of the glass being gone it just seems makes things feel even worse there. It's definitely a character we come back to again and again throughout the book.
The only reason why I didn't favorite this one, you all know my rule. 5 stars is great, but a favorite means I will re-read it in the future. I think this was a great thriller that kept me guessing and reading. And I adored the twists. But I don't see this being a re-read for me in the future.

"House of Glass" by Sarah Pekkanen offers a chilling and eerie atmosphere that grips readers from the start. The author masterfully creates a sense of unease that lingers long after the final page is turned. The suspenseful plot keeps you on the edge of your seat, eager to uncover the mysteries lurking within the walls of the house.
However, the novel occasionally veers off into odd plot tangents, such as unnecessary details about characters' personal lives, like the dynamics between the protagonist's ex-husband and his new girlfriend, or Stella's burgeoning affection for Detective Garcia. These tangents detract from the main storyline and can feel like unnecessary distractions.
Additionally, while the suspense is palpable, some plot twists and turns can be predictable, robbing the narrative of some of its impact. Despite these drawbacks, "House of Glass" remains a compelling read for those who enjoy a good scare and don't mind a few bumps along the way.

4.5 rounded up to 5!!!
Thanks to Net Galley for the advanced copy of House of Glads. After a few false starts, I was able to devour this book in just a couple of days. Sarah Pekkanen’s newest domestic thriller had me guessing for quite a while! It was a great whodunit and nearly any one of the characters that were introduced could have done it. I definitely recommend this book!

This was quite a thrill ride!! Chilling with the creepy kid aspect 👀 I had never read Sarah Pekkanen but dang can she write a thriller. This book sucked me in immediately and I was super invested in the people in this story, I truly adored Stella as a character. The ending was EXCELLENT.

I love the intensity this writer always displays. The cover also enticed me and I could not put it down. I feel most thriller seekers will love this.

Loved this book! The author did a great job of getting you invested in the characters. You can really feel what Stella is feeling and you just want to give her a hug and share a cup of coffee. :)
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.
On the outside they were the golden family with the perfect life. On the inside they built the perfect lie.
A young nanny who plunged to her death, or was she pushed? A nine-year-old girl who collects sharp objects and refuses to speak. A lawyer whose job it is to uncover who in the family is a victim and who is a murderer. But how can you find out the truth when everyone here is lying?
Rose Barclay is a nine-year-old girl who witnessed the possible murder of her nanny - in the midst of her parent's bitter divorce - and immediately stopped speaking. Stella Hudson is a best interest attorney, appointed to serve as counsel for children in custody cases. She never accepts clients under thirteen due to her own traumatic childhood, but Stella's mentor, a revered judge, believes Stella is the only one who can help.
From the moment Stella passes through the iron security gate and steps into the gilded, historic DC home of the Barclays, she realizes the case is even more twisted, and the Barclay family far more troubled, than she feared. And there's something eerie about the house itself: It's a plastic house, with not a single bit of glass to be found.
As Stella comes closer to uncovering the secrets the Barclays are desperate to hide, danger wraps around her like a shroud, and her past and present are set on a collision course in ways she never expected. Everyone is a suspect in the nanny's murder. The mother, the father, the grandmother, the nanny's boyfriend. Even Rose. Is the person Stella's supposed to protect the one she may need protection from?

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this ARC of House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen.
This was an auto-request for me to read as I very much have enjoyed Sarah Pekkanen’s collaborative thriller books with author Greer Hendricks.
House of Glass is made of plastic after Rose’s nanny Tina dies in a fall from a high window.
Rose’s parents Ian and Ruth are divorcing and Stella, a recently-divorced child lawyer (BIA) involved in a custody recommendation, is our main character.
Stella usually does not take on child clients as old as Rose’s nine years, but Stella shares some of Rose’s traumatic mutism after seeing her own mother lying dead in her childhood home. Stella and Rose also both have childhood experience with deception by and weakness of adults.
Stella ends up sharing some ominous incidents that Tina experienced prior to her fall: her possessions going missing, suspected intrusions, strange voices, spying, etc.
Is Stella the new victim, recognized as another “agent of change” for Rose’s world, as she tries to figure out and recommend how the law should act for this family regarding Rose’s custody?
Other salient characters are Charles, Stella’s dear friend (or is he?) and mentor who in her past saved her from a dreary existence with her angry aunt, and Harriet, Ian’s mother who lives in the mansion with the family and who appears to be Rose’s main protector.
This book is a solid psychological and domestic thriller with a creepy atmospheric vibe - and with an atypical child, Rose, who seems potentially evil or at least dangerous underneath her silence.
The story’s who-done-it plot kept me guessing and page-flipping. Who is a savior and who is deceitful?
I continue to enjoy the author’s style of writing: descriptive and with brevity. It sucked me into the story and kept me there for every short chapter by chapter. I could not wait to exit the growing suspense and learn of its resolution!
Five stars!

I really enjoyed the slower burn (in my opinion) of this story, that really picked up in the end and shocked me in the best ways. I love a creepy kid book and this one really delivered.. I thought the characters were very believable and well written. This was a really tense thriller, with a twist that I never guessed.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an early copy of this book to read and review. I really enjoyed this story and am excited to recommend it.

This was a solid thriller that certainly kept me reading. This book offers two mysteries for the price of one, and really kept me guessing on both of them throughout. I would recommend this to any thriller reader.

This was a fantastic read. It was very fast paced. It grabs you from the beginning and keeps you turning pages until the very end. The writing was great and the characters were likable and well developed.

Totally loved this book with creepy house and creepy kid vibes. This books leaves, you questioning every character, not knowing who you can trust. I was so happy to see this all. Come together in the end, never would’ve guessed what happened!

First book I haven’t been able to put down in awhile! The main character was likable and I enjoyed seeing her personal journey as she helped the Barclay family. Highly recommend! 5 stars!

This one here!! You get two mysteries in one! Both of the mysteries of who killed the babysitter & who killed her Stella’s mom. You get flashbacks to her youth because she to lost her voice when something traumatic happened to her as a child. Now Stella is appointed to Rose the 9 yr old and she’s figuring out what best suits the child’s best interests.
This fast paced thriller will keep you guessing from beginning to end. Very interesting plot & so suspenseful! Truly an amazing story!
If you live psychological thrillers you will love this one!

Whew child, this book wrapped around me so tight I could not put it down for long. Carrying my kindle from room to room and actually taking a break from my latest binge on Hulu.
This book had so many emotions, twists and turns I was actually feeling kinda dizzy! Just when I thought I had it all figured out boom another surprise I was not expecting.

This book had so many twists and turns, and I didn’t see them all coming. I love how everything wrapped up neatly, keeping me entertained. This was a very enjoyable read!

House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen. I think I am the odd man out with this review. The writing flows well but I thought it was all pretty predictable. I did not enjoy having to rehash the assigned lawyers past and felt her feelings in present day should not have been used so much. I think this particular character would have been more believable with some psychological training added to her law degree. Thank you NetGalley for the chance to read this book,

Wow!!! I am blown away by this book. This author absolutely kills it every time. I was taken in from the very first page and could not get enough of this book! It was fast-paced, mysterious, filled with drama, and all the thrills. I was not sure who or what to believe! 5⭐️ all the way!!
