I couldn’t get into this book. It felt so unrealistic I don’t think Stella’s backstory was really relatable and it took over the book. I found myself rolling my eyes multiple times.

I've previously read Sara Pekkanen's co-writes but never a solo book and I'm kicking myself for not having read one earlier. This story had me completely riveted from beginning to end. There were so many options for "who done it" that I didn't really expect that particular ending. Throw in the small other "mystery" solved and all in all, a completely interesting and captivating read.

I enjoyed this audiobook. I’ve been a fan of other Sarah Pekkanen novels, and this one fit right along with the others. A quick and twisty story.

All I can say is wow.
I was enthralled in the story and I got sucked into the atmosphere and the storytelling.

Stella's mindset was mine too and I could follow along with how she was connecting the dots.

I also really loved how things ended.
I think Sarah Pekkanen did a great job resolving things and tying up loose ends.

This book had my mind swirling. Torn between all of the suspects and one nine-year-old girl who is standing in dead center in the middle of a storm. The set of suspects is astonishing, each coming with their own set of issues with the deceased. With every step the plot thickens, until even Little Rose is a suspect. The question is who killed the nanny or was it just a horrible accident?

From the moment Stella Hudson drives slowly through Barclay's gate, there is a rock that settles into her stomach. Once she steps through the door, there is no doubt in her mind that there is something off inside this home. Everything is a bit too polished, the people a little too brusk or just the opposite and a little too agreeable. Stella is here to figure out which parent Rose should be placed with once their divorce goes through. Her uptight mother, her down-to-earth father, or the grandmother who is always at Rose's side. Since the day Rose's nanny died, Rose has experienced traumatic mutism. She has not spoken, which makes Stella think of her own traumatic childhood and what led to her mutism. The question that Stella keeps playing in her mind is she actually mute or is she not speaking on purpose?

This was a fantastic, high speed read that I could not put down. I needed to know why there was not a single piece of glass in this house. Who killed the nanny, and why little Rose is acting the way she is? The ending made my jaw drop and the steam roll out of my ears. Family is everything. You need to be there no matter what. But...I will leave you with that and make you go read this book! Thank you to Sarah Pekkanen and St. Martin's Press for my gifted copy.

OMG, yes! Everyone here is definitely lying. I didn’t know who to point my finger at! Every single family member was on my radar. Was it the mom, the dad, the daughter, or the grandma? Heck, could it be the boyfriend? The characters were all SO well developed and super duper shady. Everything about this novel was so eerie and atmospheric. The writing, the setting, and the characters! I got the chills multiple times!!!

Pekkanen’s latest most certainly delivered. It’s no wonder she’s an author that I return to time and time again. I absolutely loved how things wrapped up with a satisfying ending that I did NOT see coming at all. Well done, Sarah Pekkanen. Very well done, indeed. 👏

Just ok and don’t stand out to me. The twist weren’t too shocking and I usually look for more in this genre.

This book kept me on the edge of my seat. Everyone is hiding something. No one is who they appear to be. Stella is trying to find the best outcome for young Rose while also dealing with her own baggage. As Stella begins to figure things out, for both her and Rose, the story gets more intense until the truth comes out. While the story wrapped up nicely, the end felt a bit odd.

This was probably my favorite Sarah Pekkanen to date! While a little predictable, I still found the plot intriguing and the writing kept me hooked until the very end. The nanny falls out of a top story window in the middle of the day. The husband, wife, and mother in law are all super shady and the young daughter is now mute and won’t say a word. Need I say more? Grab this one!! It’s a goodie.

Sarah Pekkanen is an auto read for me. This is a fast paced read that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Told in multiple POV.
Stella is a GaL for a family with a daughter, Rose who has witnessed a traumatic event. It is Stella's job to figure out where Rose's best interest lies. This is a special case as Stella normally does not take on cases under 13 due to her own childhood events.. I thought I had this figured out, until I didn't.
I absolutely loved this book and read it one sitting.

I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading this book. In a prior career, I was a GAL, and this book 100% tracks with some of the work I did. It’s amazing that when I was doing the work, I was never as on edge as when I was reading about doing the work in this book!

I was shocked by the twist, and at the same time, relieved by the twist. I thought the parents were both insufferable and trying to do what they thought was right—but at what cost?!

Overall, loved it.

I’ve read quite a few books by this author and will continue to. The story had me on the edge of my seat, I couldn’t wait to see the outcome. I will say the twist was very surprising to me.

Reading from Stella’s point of view was perfect. I’ve never read from the point of view of someone who has to make a choice on where a child lives, and with which parent. Rose was very interesting character and lately. I’ve been reading a lot of books that’s under around young children.

I will be continuing to read anything this author publishes. I enjoy their writing style and how I have a hard time putting their books down.

This was such a creepy and thrilling book that had me guessing until the very end! This was a slower burn, but the twists just kept on coming, which made the wait all worth it. I enjoyed the story being told by the perspective of the attorney's point of view. I also really liked how some true crime cases were referenced and how they related to the events taking place in the book. Definitely a great read that you should pick up if you get the chance.

I really enjoyed this one...so much of a story & mystery together! I enjoyed the audio narration. House of Glass isn't my first book by Sarah Pekkanen and it won't be the last, that's for sure!

Stella Hudson is an attorney who helps determine custody for children who are involved in difficult custody situations. She is assigned to the case of Rose Barclay, whose nanny has been murdered in the family home. The suspect could be anyone in the home. To make matters more complicated, Rose has lost the ability to speak due to the trauma she experienced.

Stella has her work cut out for her with the mysterious Barclay family. Stella is also reminded of her own trauma history. Overall, this book pulled me in from the beginning and kept me guessing during each chapter. The ending had some extraneous drama that I personally felt was contrived and could have done without, but I still really enjoyed this novel!

I received an ARC of this book through NetGalley- thank you!

I thought this was a good thriller. The plot was original, and the pace kept me interested. It did slow down for me in the middle for a bit but picked up towards the end. There were some things with the ending that I didn't think fit super well, but overall I enjoyed the read.

🎧 HOUSE OF GLASS by Sarah Pekkanen
Genre: thriller
3.5 stars

💭: i found this to be really engaging and well-written. I liked the premise of the story and found myself intrigued and wanting to find out what was happening. I knew this was a book where the ending would make/break it but I wasn’t wowed by the twist/ending — i predicted it, but definitely a solid quick thriller.

House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen is a fascinating thriller. This is my first novel by this author and I really enjoyed it. Rose Barclay is obsessed with sharp objects. She is a nine-year-old girl who apparently has selective mutism. Perhaps this is a trauma response to her parents impending divorce. Previously, the Barclay’s nanny died under suspicious circumstances, with the niggling suspicion that Rose had something to do with her death. Rose’s mother has set a very unusual environment at home. Things that would be glass objects have been modified to be plastic in one form or another. Their home is best described as a plastic house. Strange indeed.

Stella Hudson is an attorney who becomes involved with the Barclays as a favor to a friend. When she approaches the house, she can sense a strong sense of evil emanating from the house. Trauma no doubt exists there, and the situation makes Stella often think of her own disturbing past. In fact, as the story develops, Stella’s memories of the past are woven into the story that is the present.

So, Stella is there to do her job, despite presenting as a bit damaged by her own past. Meanwhile, the nanny’s death is still suspect, and she must wonder who she can trust. Who she can believe. Then nine-year-old Rose and her proclivities must be taken into consideration. This book was the perfect example of how no one could be trusted. Certainly kept me on my toes with twists and turns that captivated my attention..

House of Glass was an exceptionally captivating read. The audiobook narrative’s pacing was impeccable, and the storytelling was of the highest caliber. The unreliable narrator added an intriguing layer to the plot, making it an unforgettable experience. The pervasive eerie atmosphere throughout the book further enhanced its suspenseful nature. As an avid reader of Sarah Pekkanen’s works, particularly those co-authored with Greer Hendricks, I am always thrilled to have the opportunity to explore her solo endeavors.

Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
