Thank you. NetGalley and St Martin's Press. Did I really just waste 3 days reading this. It should have been a DNF for me, but I kept hoping it would get better. It didn't and now I'm regretting that I didn't put it down. I will admit that whenever I was going to give up there would be a twist that would drag me back in.
Stella is a lawyer who is assigned to help decide which parent Rose would live with after her parents are divorced. Rose is an odd child with annoying parents and grandmother. Oh and her nanny was murdered and since her death. Rose has not spoken. It felt like Stella was more interested in finding out who killed the nanny then finding out what is the best thing for Rose. Rose is a difficult child to get to know and Stella had trouble connecting with her. The characters were all odd and seemed cold except for Ian, the father. Stella is also dealing with her own divorce and childhood trauma. There was just so much going on.
I just didn't enjoy this book, the plot was interesting but the book dragged and the ending was only okay. Just my opinion.

3.5
Stella is a best interest attorney who has been assigned to Rose. Stella will determine which parent Rose will live with when the Barclay divorce is final. Stella is dealing with her own divorce and past trauma and the two storylines cross over most of the book.
While the book has lots of twists and suspenseful moments, I figured out the endings pretty early on...I felt like there could have been a little more interaction between the two main characters Stella and Rose but overall found the plot and story enjoyable.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

House of Glass follows an attorney as she investigates the best living situation for a little girl amid her parents’ divorce. The are of course more sinister things at play affecting the case. Who will she be happiest and safest with? And will they be safe from her? This book kept me guessing until the end. I liked the parallel story of the main character’s own mystery. There was an out of left field detail at the end that seemed disjointed.

House of Glass is a solid solo novel by Sarah Pekkanen that I enjoyed thoroughly.
House of Glass follows Stella, a Best Interest Attorney (who knew those were a thing?!) who has been assigned to the case of a 9 year old, Rose, who is traumatized by the death of her nanny…… but is she really? What really happened to the nanny…. And who may be at fault? With the divorce of Rose’s parents looming, Stella must decide which parent Rose should live with following the divorce. Rose’s family is full of secrets and it will take everything Stella has to get to the truth.
This is was a quick easy read for me. The story was original and the characters were interesting enough that they kept my interest. Rose’s family house was extra creepy and each character definitely helped add to that uneasy feeling!
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read this ARC before its intended release of August 6, 2024.

House of Glass (This review is from an ARC from NetGalley)
A Novel
by Sarah Pekkanen
On the outside they were the perfect family with the perfect life.
A young nanny who plunged to her death, or was she pushed? A nine-year-old girl who collects sharp objects and refuses to speak. A lawyer whose job it is to uncover who in the family is a victim and who is a murderer. But how can you find out the truth when everyone here is lying? Rose Barclay is a nine-year-old who possibly witnesses the murder of the nanny and after the incident stops speaking and her parents are in the midst of a bitter divorce.
Stella Hudson is a best interest attorney, appointed to serve as counsel for children in custody cases. Once Stella starts to investigate the case, she finds that this is a more twisted plot in an eerie house.
Everyone is a suspect in the nanny's murder. As the investigation progresses Stella comes closer to uncovering the secrets the Barclays family are desperate to hide, and when the murderer is revealed, we are all shocked.
This is a riveting; powerful and griping tale and it is hard to put down until the final page.

I absolutely LOVED this book! The title is so perfect and it gives away everything and nothing all at once. This books was a good psychological thriller involving a family with a child at the center. Who can speak for the child when she can’t speak for herself? The character development was excellent. The main characters had their own mysteries to solve within the overarching mystery of what really happened within the glass house. The story was easy to read and had a good pace throughout the entire book.

Not my cup of tea , and si ce when do we have to be inclusive in our books? We don’t , and not everyone enjoys reading about lesbians. How about since there’s a bigger percentage of people who are nonmembers of the LGBTQ you can start putting warning out so we don’t have to read a book and then discover that bullshit in it.

This is a 4.5 for me, only because of pacing, and overall is a fantastic book!
The first bit of the book was slightly off for me - it seemed like it was picking up steam and pulling me in and then it was just meh and I could put it down easily. But don’t give up! Once that was gone, I was hooked and squeezing in any reading time I could get. I finished it this morning but still want to hang out with Stella this afternoon. Parts of the book are dark, but it did not impact the reading for me. I was verifying my suspects every other page, because my “bad guy”kept changing. And I still was wrong. I love when that happens!

I read everything Sara does since her collaboration on Anonymous Girl. Unfortunately I feel like the whole is sliding down hill this being my least favorite to date. It felt predictable and like a lifetime movie if that’s what you’re into then go for it. Rose is a girl with selective mutism who witnessed her nanny dying falling from a huge third floor window. While her parents are divorcing a person from the court is sent in to review the best interest of the child since she’s no longer speaking for herself. As the story evolves you realize something much more sinister is going on in this house. 2.5⭐️ this one just didn’t go it for me.

A plastic house? With no Glass? No mirrors? Characters who seem to be questionable? This is the perfect backdrop for a Family drama.
From page 1 to the very last page i was captivated. Sarah had my brain completely confused with her twists and drama.
A thriller story that i completely recommend

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy of this book!
Wow! This is one of my favorite reads so far this year. This story was gripping and kept me guessing in true whodunit fashion. Every time I was sure I knew what happened, something made me question my sanity- just like Stella. I also loved that it wasn't just a "murder mystery" and that there was another facet to the story. I loved Stella's character and I think Sarah Pekkanen did an excellent job with her backstory and development- it made the decisions she made and how she approached things so understandable and made the reader feel like you were truly in her head and evaluating Rose's case.
Highly, highly recommend picking this one up when it comes out.

House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen was a fun ride, and one I was expecting from this veteran thriller writer. Stella is the main protagonist who is undergoing her own trauma, and she is recommended to help advocate for Rose Barclay, a young and talented girl, who is in the middle of a terrible divorce after her babysitter mysteriously died. It is unclear if the babysitter was murdered, and this is one of the central aspects of the book. I admit I was swept along with Stella and had no idea what I was in for. It's hard to trick me at this point but I was duped. Excellent and fun book.

Synopsis: After Rose Barclay’s nanny, suffers a traumatic death, she stops talking. Stella is a best interest attorney, appointed to represent Rose in her divorcing parents custody case. The more time Stella spends with the Barclay’s in their home, the more sinister things get.
My thoughts: A “plastic” house made with no glass set the perfect eerie backdrop for this story. The author did an incredible job placing motives and suspicion on each character. There were several goose-bump warranted creepy moments! This is one you’ll want to carve out some time to read because you won’t want to put it down! 4 stars for me because one of the sub plots felt very random and almost distracted from the story. I was hoping it would all somehow come together in the end but I was left wanting more. Overall, this is a winner for me and Pekkanen’s best yet!

There are some intense moments that propelled the story, some good Deja vu moments that had me guessing wildly, but the wrap up was too convenient and didn't really give me that fist bump moment I was anticipating.

First off, thanks to NetGalley for a complementary copy in exchange for an honest review. I normally love Sarah Pekkanen, and this one was good, but not my favorite. It had a really interesting premise, and I felt like there was great characterization of Stella and of Rose. The first half of the book had a great set up combined with short chapters that really sucked me in. However, the second half of the book fell short to me and I found myself skimming by the end. The twists felt predictable and once everything started to unfold, I lost interest.

I questioned every character while reading this book and I enjoyed the twists throughout. It was very well written and never expected the ending!

“House of Glass” is a psychological thriller that will keep you guessing.
Sarah Pekkanen creates a twisted whodunnit that readers will go crazy for. This is the kind of book that makes you want to ignore your responsibilities to keep reading instead.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one and can’t wait to see what’s next! Thank you NetGalley, Sarah Pekkanen, and St. Martin’s Press for gifting me this copy.

Thanks to the author , publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
On the outside they were the golden family with the perfect life. On the inside they built the perfect lie.
This book had my attention from the first page all the way through until the last! I loved Stella’s character, and felt that everything and everyone else was so relatable and real. I’m so glad that I took a chance with this book, and I cannot wait to read Pekkanen’s next! I highly recommend this twisty thriller!
5 stars

I really loved Gone Tonight and a couple of others by this Sarah Pekkanen. So I was so excited to read House of Glass. Unfortunately, it just didn't work for me. A little more history about the main character's work would have been helpful, and also maybe about the family she was assigned to. It was almost like starting in the middle of a story, and the connections between characters were shaky. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC.
