I loved this book. It's my favorite of the three I've read by this author and that's saying something because the other two were very good.
It's a great set up with a great protagonist. Stella is a lawyer who works on behalf of minors in custody disputes. She working with Rose Barclay a nine year old who stopped speaking about her nanny died, was pushed (?) from the attic room. Stella has her own troubled past which hits close to home with this case.
Stella is unlike any other character I've read. I loved her dedication and passion and her profession was something I haven't seem depicted often in fiction, There a lots of clues and misdirects along the way and some true bombshells as well.
This book had everything I love in a mystery!

I enjoyed this book about a Nanny's death. The story had the perfect amount of chatacters: Mom, Dad, Grandmother or the little girl? I never guessed what happened. The main character had her own secondary story. Interesting theme, not too many details weighing the story down, overall a solid 4 stars.

It goes without saying that Sarah Pekkanen is the queen of domestic thrillers, and House of Glass was no exception. I love a good family drama/murder mystery, and House of Glass really pulled out all the stops. I love Pekkanen's ability to flip the narrative at a moment's notice, and somehow -- even when the narrative is on its head -- everything makes perfect sense. In addition, Pekkanen did a fantastic job of creating complex characters, especially Stella and Rose. As with her other books, I could not put this one down. A must read for 2024!

Thank you @netgalley for the ARC of House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen. I loved this slow burn, closed-door thriller. It was dark and moody. I love books where everyone is a suspect and the evidence points to all of the characters both likable and unlikable. I always enjoy her thrillers and this one didn’t disappoint.
Tina, the baby of a the Barclay family does when she falls from a window. The only witness is the 9 year old daughter, Rose. Rose seems like the likely suspect because she becomes mute and begins collecting sharp objects. The father, mother, and grandmother each have their own reasons for killing Tina and it’s possible Rose is covering for them. Stella Hudson is an attorney investigating the crime and also to decide custody of Rose as the parents are divorcing. As she gets closer to the answer, strange things start happening to her.

This is my first read by Sarah Pekkanen and it was a whirlwind.
Stella is best interest attorney investigating the custody case of the Barclay Family. Their nanny has had a mysterious death and the parents are fighting for custody. The story started out strong and suspenseful, but the twists became somewhat predictable and a little ridiculous.

Well, this is the Sarah Pekkanen I know. I have been longing for another book of hers to make me fall in love with her as an author again. Well, she did it.
Everyone is a suspect; and, I mean everyone. Tina, the nanny, tragically died one day on the Barclay estate. It could have been the over doting mother, the father who was having an affair with Tina, the grandmother who was angry with her son, or the 9 year old child who has a history of violence. Our guardian at-litem will need to find out who this suspecting child should fall under regarding care. None of them seem the best fit however because of the open cold case on the nanny. So…whodunnit?
Wonderful. Lovely. Spooky. I’m here for it!

In the heart of a seemingly perfect family lies a web of deceit and tragedy. A young nanny's mysterious death casts a shadow over the Barclay household, leaving nine-year-old Rose silent and withdrawn. Enter Stella Hudson, a best interest attorney tasked with uncovering the truth behind the tragedy. But in a house where everyone is a suspect and no one can be trusted, unraveling the truth becomes a dangerous game. The storytelling draws you into a world where nothing is as it seems and danger lurks around every corner. From the eerie confines of the Barclay home to the chilling secrets hidden within its walls, "House of Glass" will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
It has intricate plot twists and compelling characters, definitely a must-read for fans of suspense and mystery.

Another good one by one of my favorite authors, Sarah Pekkanen! A solid 4.5 star twisty read that will keep you guessing until the very end.
Set in the DC area Stella, a best interest attorney, takes a case that involves 9 year old Rose who's nanny died tragically by falling out of a window and her parents are now divorcing. She must decide who should be given full custody of Rose. The story weaves Stella's childhood traumas into the storyline as well. as Rose now suffers from a traumatic mutism, the same as Stella once did.
As you get to know the family members and Stella unravels what happened, you will suspect every single character in this book. A fast read that I didn't want to put down each night until I knew how it ended.
Add this book to your list when it releases in August!

Thank you NetGalley and St Martins Press for the arc of this book.
Y'all- I am still thinking about this book. I couldn't put it down when I was reading it, and now I can't get it out of my head. I loved everything about this book. I will definitely be recommending to my friends!

Well that was one twisty exciting read! You have one dead nanny, a boatload of suspects with motives all living in one house that actually contains no glass and some creepy things happening or should I say repeating? And Stella must deal with her own childhood trauma as well as figure out if Rose is hiding a killer inside of her or if it was something else entirely. This leads for one hard to put down story and I enjoyed every minute of it.
Stella is not perfect but I think she is doing amazingly well for the twisty issue that ends in her lap. a mute child and divorcing parents and of course the mysteriously pushed out of a window nanny, Tina. And then when similar things start happening to her, it really muddies up the waters of who she can trust.
I can't really reveal anything because it would ruin the story, but I do highly recommend this for a unputdownable thrilling read!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read and review an advance copy of this book.

This was a compelling read. I was surprised when the villain was revealed. There were many shades revealed as the story developed. I highly recommend it

This book was so good; it drew me in from the start! 5 stars for this book! This is my first original from Sarah Pekkanen, but third in terms of others she's co-written and I loved those too.
This story is about Stella a BIA (Beat Interest Attorney) who gets a case involving a child (Rose) whose nanny just died in a suspicious death and whose parents are divorcing. Stella is hired to serve Rose and determine which parent is best to have sole custody. Throughout the book who learn more about Stella, Rose, and Rose's family along with bits of Stella's background.
This book has a creepy child trope, murder, mystery, secrets, and more!
Thank you to Netgalley, Sarah Pekkanen, and the publishing company for the eARC of this book!!

This story revolves around Stella, a child advocate attorney working with nine-year-old Rosie. After experiencing some traumatic events at home, Rosie has become selectively mute. Stella is determined to uncover the truth about what really happened, and she needs to speak with everyone involved - including Rosie's parents, grandmother, and other people who work in the household.
House of Glass left a lasting impression on me. This slow-burn whodunit thriller is full of eerie and creepy vibes, making it a real page-turner. I was eager to find out who the murderer was and the reason behind the crime. The setting of the story was great; I loved the claustrophobic feel of the large estate where Rosie, her parents, and her grandmother all reside. The elevator and all the hidden small places where someone can hide added to the suspense. The character development was also impressive. I appreciated how determined Stella was to find the truth and how her own traumatic experience as a child mirrored Rosie's current situation, which made her more confident about finding the truth. Also, I loved how Pekkanen casually mentions the Book of the Month in the story. It was a great advertisement placement, and I hope House of Glass becomes a BOTM pick.
Thank you to NetGalley and to St. Martin’s Press for giving me a copy of the book.

Sarah Pekkanen always comes through on her books!! Before this my book club read "Gone Tonight" which was a page turner! On the heels of that book, I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for a fair review and was super excited to dig into it. Right off the bat this book has a mystery to solve, a good whodunnit if you will.
When the nanny of 9 year old Rose is found dead, after falling from an upper-level window of their DC home by Rose and her grandmother, Harriet. Rose stops speaking completely, which puts a toll on the family and the house has been tense ever since. It's also made the Barclay's replace anything in the house that is glass, and switch it for plastic. It seems like no one can trust each other, because no one knows what really happened to the nanny. Rose's parents decide to divorce and must bring in a best interest attorney for Rose to decide who she should live with. This means that Stella, the best interest attorney must spend time with each of the people in Rose's life, including her parents, grandmother, and any tutors she might have. Since Rose doesn't speak, Stella has to find out all she can about the Barclays in order to form her opinion. As she puts together bits and pieces, she also realizes she needs to help solve what really happened to the nanny. This book will have you guessing till the very end!
Read this book!!!

House of Glass is a great thriller. Pekkanen’s writing is top notch and keeps you on the edge of your set. Every character has a motive and you will truly be guessing up until the big reveal. I enjoyed the inclusion of the comparison between Stella’s and Rose’s stories throughout the book. Some side characters did seem unnecessary and while I did wish the reveal was bigger, the ending was still satisfying. Overall, a great read that pulled me out of a reading slump. (4.25/5)

I got an ARC off of Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
It was just…ok.
I will start by saying this. I did like Stella and I found her work as a Best Interest Attorney to be interesting I think the first half of this book was solid and intriguing. There are elements of horror mixed in that kept me wanting to find out what happens. I got young Michael Myers vibes from Rose. I thought Beth was well-written as the overbearing, control freak mother. The writing style flowed nicely and provided an enjoyable reading experience.
I don’t know if this needs to be reworked, but the second half felt all over the place and that greatly detracted from the story. There was so much going on: Stella’s divorce, her relationship with Charles, her desire to find out what happened to her mother, the Barclay’s divorce and custody battle, Rose’s mutism and violent outbursts, the cold case murder of Tina, Rose’s nanny, and probably more that I’m forgetting. The first half, all of these storylines seemed to have the appropriate balance, but then I felt they started battling for prominence. When it was ultimately revealed who murdered the nanny, it was a decent action scene, but the perp was a bit of a mustache-twirling villain.
While I appreciated the LGBT rep, it did feel slightly shoehorned in. I felt that Stella’s sexuality needed to be established from the beginning. I get that people can discover their sexuality in their 30s, but the way it was done felt like it was just to check a box. It was a quick chapter about Stella discovering her feelings, then a quick date. Sure, it pays off later on, but I felt no connection between Stella and Natalia.

Five stars for this fantastic novel! I was hooked from the very beginning and couldn’t wait to find out what actually happened in that mansion.
The characters were all perfectly crafted and the mystery that unfolded was not what I expected!
I look forward to reading more from Sarah Pekkanen in the future.
I want to thank NetGalley, Sarah Pekkanen, and St. Martin’s Press for allowing me the wonderful opportunity to read and review this novel prior to its release.

A good, fast-paced book. Some parts of the book were pretty slow and I almost DNF'd a few times. Good ending so I'm glad I stuck with it. Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC.

Wow! Sarah Pekkanen always delivers suspense but House of Glass was really one that I couldn't put down! Stella is assigned to work with Rose through her parents' divorce and custody proceedings after her Nanny falls to her death. Stella is caught in an impossible situation trying to determine who should get custody of Rose, while she is trying to filter through inconsistencies, a mute child, parents at odds with each other and a live in grandmother. This book kept me guessing through the entire story. Highly recommend!

House of Glass is the third novel I have read by Sarah Pekkanen and she is yet to disappoint. This is a twisty psychological thriller which follows Stella Hudson as she investigates the Barclay family. She is called in by her mentor and father figure to help Rose Barclay. Rose may or may not have witnessed her Nanny jumping to her death and is so traumatized she can no longer speak. Stella knows all too well how trauma can leave you mute; being a trauma survivor herself. House of Glass follows Stella as she unravels the mystery of the Barclay family and maybe a few of her own. Hands down, I give this a 4 out of 5. It was well developed and intriguing and I couldn’t put it down.
