Stella Hudson is a Best Interest Attorney. It is her job to make recommendations such as in a divorce, what outcome (custody) is in the best interest of the child.

Stella is offered an interesting case by her friend (and Judge). Rose, a young prodigy of a child, is currently mute, given the horrific situation that happened within the her home - her nanny (Tina) has fallen out of a third story window and died. Tina was also having an affair with the father of Rose.
This was quite slow. I could not find myself caring about the main characters backstory at all. For some reason every time Stella had flashbacks or thoughts about her childhood I just felt like it should be in a different book. The flow was not flowing. It was relevant because of childhood trauma, and how that helped her bond with the children, but at the same time for some reason every time it was talked about, to me it, felt out of place. The whole thing just felt very predictable and a little forced to me. I had a hard time continuing it timely because I got bored quickly

It seems like I’m in the minority with this book. I didn’t really like it all that much. Far too protectable and longer than necessary.

This was my first novel by Sarah Pekkanen and it did not disappoint! I loved the short chapters, it made me want to keep reading for hours! The Nanny Tina fell out of the 3rd story window and I spent the entire novel going back and forth over what I thought happened. Rose, Ian, and Beth were all super complex and mysterious. Or maybe it was Harriet, the elderly grandma. Great book! Kept me guessing!

Omg!! This book was the epitome of a gripping thriller with many twists! I was NOT expecting the outcome that came about from this enthralling book that kept me up way too late! You might think you’ve figured it out, but you likely are wrong! Highly recommend it!

As a reader, I cannot imagine the series of events and feelings that evolved from such events that would trigger a child like Rose into traumatic mutism. I can understand why Charles felt that Stella would be the correct person to evaluate the case and determine the correct custody arrangement given her own childhood which quite frankly was not a childhood at all. She like rose never felt safe. This book is truly a page turner as to whom pushed Tina out of the window given there was a multitude of reasons to do so? Was it Ian who he had an affair with? Rose who experienced love and hate and seemed to have a very violent and dark side to her? However, whatever conclusion a reader such as myself thought was it, it turned that theory on its backside. Harriet was the dark shadow over the house and her evilness crept into every corner. She was willing to sacrifice the happiness of her own family to remain needed. This book is a horrifying glimpse into the capability of a human to do terrible things. Very well written and I was so happy for Stella at the end.

Sarah Pekkanen, you have done it again and in the process of reading this book I choked on my tea from a few audible gasps that came out of me and I was so fully invested and submerged into this story I felt like a detective trying to link all the pieces together. This was impossible to put down. I lost sleep and it was totally worth it. Once in awhile a book comes along that is so well written it feels like you are watching a movie and this hit that goal like a bullseye.

For fans of psychological thrillers who like to be on the edge of their seat you will not be disappointed with this book. You will only be disappointed by your inability to think you have everything figured out before it takes a sharp right hand turn (many times) leaving you guessing and right back to square one.

Do not sleep on this book, I think it's going to be a top contender for 2024 releases.

Bravo Sarah, this was amazing!

Just finished house of glass and it was a great read. This book is about a lawyer advocate for children who takes on a client Rose who must decide who gets custody of the child in a bitter Divorce case. And to add to the dilemma is the fact that the nanny of this child was recently killed on the premises of the estate they live in. And then there's the mother-in-law Harriet who is also involved and wants to be a part of the child's life.

So this book takes us on a journey of this lawyer trying to determine the best case scenario for the child, who actually murdered the nanny, and weaved in amongst this present dilemma is the lawyer's past who was also a child of neglect and abuse.

It's a fascinating look at a lawyer trying to determine the best scenario for this child. And along the way trying to determine who murdered the nanny.

She has to get involved and learn about the family, learn about all the players try to determine who's lying who's not and then in the midst of this she's also trying to come to grips with her past and her mother's death and whether it was a murder or not.

This book kept me on the edge of my seat I wanted to know more I was fascinated by the different characters the journey of the lawyer and who she should turn to and then talk to and it was just a great read I really enjoyed it.

I would love to see a series about this lawyer and different cases she takes on I think that would be a great series.

House of Glass is the newest novel written by Sarah Pekkanen. It is a classic “Who Dunit”. I really enjoyed the first half of the novel. I found it fast paced and I was questioning the culpability of the cast of characters. However the second half seemed to drag a bit especially when dealing with the protagonist own trauma. I was expecting a big twist or huge reveal but found the end was pretty tame.
I rated it a 3 1/2 star rounded up due to the first half and overall premise. I did enjoy reading it and if you love quick mysteries, I would recommend it.

8 year old Rose Barclay is left mute after the tragic death of the of her Nanny amid her parents divorce . When Stella is assigned to Rose’s case to help determine the best custody situation she realizes nothing is as it seems and everyone, including her young client seems like they have something they are hiding.

I absolutely loved this book. It pulled me in from the first page and didn’t let me go until the end. The way the author wrote about the Barclay house gave me chills each time and up until the end I didn’t know who to trust. I also think the author did a wonderful job with showing the effects of trauma can have on someone.

Definitely pick this one up when it comes out and I want to thank Netgalley and the publishers for allowing to read this advanced copy in exchange of my honest review.

Stella is a child advocacy lawyer who has been assigned to 9 year old Rose Barclay, whose nanny Tina mysteriously fell out of a window three stories to a gruesome death. Rose lives with her wealthy mother Beth, her unfaithful father Ian, and her grandmother Harriet. Tina died while the whole family was home; but they all have alibi’s for her time of death. So what actually happened to Tina? While Stella has been tasked with coming up with a custody recommendation pending the Barclay’s divorce, she comes to believe that she cannot help Rose without answering that question herself.

While Stella’s backstory aided in explaining why she felt so connected to Rose; some of it felt unnecessary to the overall plot.

I also had a strong idea who the “villain” was at around the 60% mark, but I was still invested in the story and the “why.”

Overall, I really enjoyed the tension in this book, and enjoyed the read!

4.5!! This book was so creepy I was on the edge of my seat almost the whole time. I binged it because I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. That said, I did feel frustrated by the random romance thrown in at 75% out of nowhere, as well as the conflict with Charles. I also felt slightly let down by the resolution after such a large build up. Overall, a fun read.

Loved this book, definitely on par with previous thrillers I have read from this author. Truly had me second guessing everyone involved and suspicious the entire time.

MY THOUGHTS
- I am a big fan of Sarah Pekkanen’s writing, and her latest didn’t disappoint.
- This is a solid, unique premise. I was suspicious of everyone, and I was eager to find out what happened to Tina, to learn about Stella’s past, and to figure out what was up with Rose. Pekkanen ties up all these loose ends nicely, and the ending is satisfying.
- It is medium, steady pace, and tension builds throughout the book.
- I love a story with a dysfunctional family, too.
- Unpredictable with good twists.

TL;DR: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️unique plot. tense with dysfunctional family. satisfying ending.

Good thriller and very fast read. The plot kept me guessing, although I confess to suspecting both the culprit in the unsolved murder/accident as well as the involvement of the main character’s mentor in her childhood. I think that the clues leading one to believe that the child Rose was evil were too obvious and thus led me to believe that all was not as it seemed. I did enjoy the story however.

Hooked early on in the story and was sure I knew what was going to happen. Most definitely didn’t know what was going on! Liked the alternating storylines between lawyer and family.

This book was 👩🏽‍🍳💋everything I want in a thriller and more❤️ Very psychologically thrilling and had me shocked multiple times!!! The similarities/mirrors between Stella’s past and Rose’s present were done impeccably and I loved the tie in!!

Here are the vibes:
✨A wealthy multi-generational family living under one roof
✨An affair with the nanny
✨Suspicious death of said nanny
✨Divorce with a child custody battle
✨A Best Interest Lawyer with a past
✨A now mute (possibly homicidal) creepy child
✨…AND MUCH MUCH MORE

This was soooo fun to read and super exciting that I can only imagine how cool and thrilling the audiobook would be!

Definitely look out for this one when it comes out!!!

I loved this psychological thriller!
It has so much suspense, dysfunction and trauma through out the pages!
There has been a death of a young nanny and it appears it could be an accident, But.. was it?
This is the theme of the novel.
Stella Hudson a lawyer, needs to decide who the young, mute child that was in the care of the now deceased nanny will be reside with when her parents divorce.
Her elderly grandmother lives with her family and home schools this child as upon seeing her beloved nanny die is now mute and truly traumatized.
Stella knows that there is much more to this family and she will get to the bottom of it all!

If you love drama and psychological trauma, this is a perfect read for you.
