I really enjoyed this one...so much of a story & mystery together! I enjoyed the audio narration. House of Glass isn't my first book by Sarah Pekkanen and it won't be the last, that's for sure!

Stella Hudson is an attorney who helps determine custody for children who are involved in difficult custody situations. She is assigned to the case of Rose Barclay, whose nanny has been murdered in the family home. The suspect could be anyone in the home. To make matters more complicated, Rose has lost the ability to speak due to the trauma she experienced.

Stella has her work cut out for her with the mysterious Barclay family. Stella is also reminded of her own trauma history. Overall, this book pulled me in from the beginning and kept me guessing during each chapter. The ending had some extraneous drama that I personally felt was contrived and could have done without, but I still really enjoyed this novel!

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest feedback!

I received an ARC of this book through NetGalley- thank you!

I thought this was a good thriller. The plot was original, and the pace kept me interested. It did slow down for me in the middle for a bit but picked up towards the end. There were some things with the ending that I didn't think fit super well, but overall I enjoyed the read.

🎧 HOUSE OF GLASS by Sarah Pekkanen
Genre: thriller
3.5 stars

💭: i found this to be really engaging and well-written. I liked the premise of the story and found myself intrigued and wanting to find out what was happening. I knew this was a book where the ending would make/break it but I wasn’t wowed by the twist/ending — i predicted it, but definitely a solid quick thriller.

House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen is a fascinating thriller. This is my first novel by this author and I really enjoyed it. This book and its unexpected twists and turns kept me up way too late reading. The ending was not at all what I expected but truly made sense. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to readers who enjoy thrillers. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

Rose Barclay is obsessed with sharp objects. She is a nine-year-old girl who apparently has selective mutism. Perhaps this is a trauma response to her parents impending divorce. Previously, the Barclay’s nanny died under suspicious circumstances, with the niggling suspicion that Rose had something to do with her death. Rose’s mother has set a very unusual environment at home. Things that would be glass objects have been modified to be plastic in one form or another. Their home is best described as a plastic house. Strange indeed.

Stella Hudson is an attorney who becomes involved with the Barclays as a favor to a friend. When she approaches the house, she can sense a strong sense of evil emanating from the house. Trauma no doubt exists there, and the situation makes Stella often think of her own disturbing past. In fact, as the story develops, Stella’s memories of the past are woven into the story that is the present.

So, Stella is there to do her job, despite presenting as a bit damaged by her own past. Meanwhile, the nanny’s death is still suspect, and she must wonder who she can trust. Who she can believe. Then nine-year-old Rose and her proclivities must be taken into consideration. This book was the perfect example of how no one could be trusted. Certainly kept me on my toes with twists and turns that captivated my attention..

House of Glass was an exceptionally captivating read. The audiobook narrative’s pacing was impeccable, and the storytelling was of the highest caliber. The unreliable narrator added an intriguing layer to the plot, making it an unforgettable experience. The pervasive eerie atmosphere throughout the book further enhanced its suspenseful nature. As an avid reader of Sarah Pekkanen’s works, particularly those co-authored with Greer Hendricks, I am always thrilled to have the opportunity to explore her solo endeavors.

Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Whoa! This book was wild! Basically, everyone is suspect! I really enjoyed Stella’s character. She was strong, smart, and caring. This book will have you turning pages trying to get answers, but you just get bread crumbs until the end and I’m not mad about it!

Stella’s dad dies in a car accident when she was young. Her mother couldn’t handle it and turns to drugs and then passes away prematurely herself. Stella makes it out of her trauma and helps other children in her job as a guardian ad litem/best interest attorney. She takes on a case involving a child whose nanny fell from the top floor of her house and died. No one witnessed the fall, or did they? When it comes out that the nanny and husband have been sleeping together, everyone is a suspect!

This book will have you looking at everyone! But, the nanny’s death isn’t the only secret being kept in this book! You will be turning pages until the very end. Don’t miss this read!

This was a pretty entertaining thriller. I’ve read quite a few creepy kid books, but this one still managed to be surprising. My mail complaint is that I didn’t care about Stella’s past. I found that side plot boring and didn’t feel like it added anything to the story.

Talk about some twists and turns and whodunit's? And two mysteries going on in one. Plus an effed up family. Whoa! It took me awhile to get to this book, but I wish I would've gotten to it sooner because it did not disappoint.

The nanny ends up dead, the husband and wife are in the midst of a divorce and there is a custody issue going on. Enter Stella who must decide who Rose should spend the majority of her time with. Stella gets the feeling that no one in Rose's family would like her to be there - even Rose. Plus Stella is getting weird calls and things happening, but can a little girl do all of this?

Thank you #NetGalley for the advance copy and not disappointing me!

This is a trope that I normally like, but I think I struggled a bit with it because I didn't find any of the characters to be extremely likeable. I thought the story was pretty fast paced and that the ending wrapped up nicely.

Thank you St Martins Press and Netgalley for an ARC of House of Glass in exchange for my honest opinion.

I loved House of Glass By Sarah Pekkanen. I was instantly sucked into the book and couldn't put it down. Had me guessing the entire time and I was completely wrong! The twist at the end was great!

When a Nanny is murdered, family secrets start to come out. The first one being that the nanny was pregnant. Now Stella, a best interest attorney, must decide what is in the best interest of a 9 year old girl, who hasn't said a worst since her Nanny's death.

Sarah Pekkanen has not disappointed me. I look forward to reading more!

I loved this book! The story kept me guessing throughout and nothing makes me feel more invested than a narrator that has investment beyond the main storyline. Stella is a best interest attorney and is trying to get to know her client, 9 year old Rose, who is experiencing traumatic mutism after watching her nanny die. Stella wants to do what’s best for her client but notices some serious red flags in Rose. This story takes you on a wild ride and it will not disappoint!

WOW! I love domestic thrillers as such. Makes the whole story come together with small family and friends. I loved how our main character was also not "perfect" and was able to come to terms quickly with it. It was a very thought-provoking book because there's so many suspects and each have a motive. Pekkanen is definetely a go to author!

This was a twisty fun read. I wanted to finish the book so I knew how it ended but also didn’t want it to be over. I love Sarah Pekkanen’s writing style and how she forms her characters. Already looking forward to her next book. Grateful I received this ARC!

House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen is a book with a storyline that kept me interested and wondering "who done it". It is the story of Rose Barclay, a nine year old girl with divorcing parents and a dead nanny with a cause of death that hasn't been confirmed as either a terrible fall or murder. The suspects include not only Rose's parents and grandmother, but also Rose herself. Rose has stopped speaking during all of this upheaval and a special lawyer has been brought in to help determine if she would be best living with her mother or father as her primary parent. What makes Stella so special is that she had an incredibly rough childhood and also stopped speaking from the trauma. The story isn't fast-paced, but is an easy read full of secrets and intrigue.

Sarah Pekkanen has written another tense thriller, this one involving my favorite character, an evil child. Stella is a best interest attorney who’s been assigned to review a divorce case for a nine-year-old girl, Rose. Her recommendations will determine who gets custody of the young girl. Bur Rose can’t speak; she saw her nanny crash through an upstirs window and fall to her death. Stella is familiar with this condition, she was similarly affected when she was a child. The police haven’t been able to determine if the nanny’s death was murder or an accident, so they’ve asked Stella to assist in determining what actually happened the day the nanny died.
There are four people living in the home, and each one had their own reasons for wishing harm on the nanny. But who can Stella trust? Is she safe or is there a reason for her life to be in danger? Just when the reader thinks they’re figuring it out, the author throws in another red herring, making this an enjoyable, fast-paced and exciting read.
Thanks so much to St. Martin’s Press for an ARC in exchange for my honest review. The publishing date is August 6, 2024.
