House of Glass is a thriller from Sarah Pekkanen in which a child psychologist/best interest lawyer tries to understand the intense family drama during a divorce. There are no reliable narrators, which adds to the thrill of the book. She must try to determine what is in the best interest of the child, who may have caused the death of her previous caretaker. This was a fun and fast read. It was predictable at times, but overall I enjoyed the book.

This book hooked me from the first chapter! Stella is an attorney who specializes in helping children advocate for themselves. Her mentor asks her to take a special case - a young 9 year old who has gone mute after the death of her nanny. Her parents are divorcing and it is Stella's job to determine how custody and visitation should be arranged. Seems fairly straightforward....but it's not!

Beth and Ian (Rose's parents) present an unlikely pair and they are hostile towards each other. No big surprise as Ian had an affair with the nanny and it was discovered that the nanny was pregnant at her time of death. Stella is trying to piece things together all the while becoming more convinced that Rose might be the killer. There are several twists and turns and connections are made between Rose and Stella's own troubled childhood. There is a brief romance encounter for Stella but I felt that could have been either left out or better fleshed out. It felt out of place (to me).

A solid thriller though and a race to the end kind of read!

I've always found Pekkanen's writing to be super engaging and her novels difficult to put down, and House of Glass was no different. As soon as I started reading, I was hooked, and the plot really kept me guessing. I have to admit that the "twist" was not that twisty and I kind of saw it coming, BUT that being said, it was a great ending to what was overall a really fun thriller to read. I also enjoyed getting to know Stella, and I thought that Pekkanen's choice to bring Stella's childhood and background into the story made her more interesting as a character to root for. I enjoy a character-focused thriller and this was definitely that kind of novel.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and give an honest review of this book.

Lawyer, Stella Hudson, has been assigned a case to determine custody of 9 year old Rose Barclay. Her parents are involved in a divorce and both want full custody of the child. Rose cannot say who she would want to live with because she is mute following the death of her nannie in a fall from the third floor window of their home. The death is suspicious. Who pushed the nannie?
Rose, one of her parents, or her live-in grandmother?

Stella is determined to see that she does right by Rose and gets her placed in the best living situation possible. The more involved Stella becomes in the case, the more she recognizes parallels to her own childhood.

Stella begins to realize that things are not always as they seem. She does some investigating into the death of her own mother, from when she was a young child. Stella also was mute for a time after her mother died.

This twisty story will keep you reading until the conclusion. It is a fun read and if you think you have the mystery solved, think again.

This story was so entertaining, I honestly hope it becomes part of a series. Stella was a fantastic character. I couldn’t help but root for her from the get go. In fact, all of the characters were well-written, but Rose was also fantastic. I knew what was going on right away, but I think that may be the cynic in me. Even still, this book was a study in foreshadowing. I actually found myself taking notes throughout it because the elements of foreshadowing were done so well. Also of note was the interesting relationship between Stella and Charles. I knew it was important, but I had no idea on that until I was smacked in the face with it. Great job! I’ll be telling everyone about this one!

Huge thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for sending me this ARC for review! All of my reviews are given honestly!

Pekkanen writes great fast paced, read in one sitting thrillers. House of Glass keeps you guessing at who the bad guy is because this entire family is SUS!
I was afraid that there was going to be a lot of loose ends at the end of the book, but no fear, everything was nicely rounded out without any plot holes. Pekkanen is quickly becoming an auto-buy author and I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next!
A huge thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an advanced copy of this book!

This was a dark and twisty psychological thriller that kept me intrigued and guessing until the end.
The Barclay's are going through a divorce and Stella has been appointed as a counsel for their nine year old daughter, Rose. Stella has been assigned to determine the best custody arrangement for Rose by spending one on one time with her and time at her home with her parents and grandmother, Harriet. The only problem is Rose is suffering from traumatic mutism after witnessing her nanny, Tina, fall to her death out the Barclay's upper window. Stella is determined to uncover the family's secrets and find out if what happened to their nanny was really an accident.

I really enjoy books featuring potential troubled children. The book follows Stella, a lawyer, who is assigned a case were a nanny had fallen to her death & the only possible witness is a 9 year old girl. The book had a lot of drama and was full of twists. I highly recommend to thriller lovers.

In a surprise to absolutely no one, I loved House of Glass by @sarahpekkanen . I loved it so much that, even though I had an advanced copy, I bought the audiobook so I didn’t have to stop reading when I had to run errands. (Thank you, @stmartinspress !)

This book was so creepy and atmospheric. There were many times that I felt the anxiety of the main character. I also loved her storylines outside of the main mystery.

A must read!!

This one had me suspicious of everyone. I enjoyed that the narrator was also suspicious of everyone and didn’t blindly trust anyone. She also took safety precautions, making it more logistically correct. I always love a good thriller this time of year.

This story follows a seemingly perfect couple, whose new life in a beautiful glass house takes a dark turn when things start to unravel. Pekkanen does an excellent job of building tension and creating a chilling atmosphere that makes the glass house itself feel like a character in the story—cold, transparent, and full of hidden dangers.

What I loved most about House of Glass were the complexities of relationships and trust. The characters are well-developed, with layers that are peeled back as the story progresses. I found myself constantly questioning who to trust and what the real truth was, which made for an engaging read.

While the plot is gripping, there were a few moments where the pacing felt a bit uneven, and some of the twists were a little predictable. But overall, the story is compelling, and Pekkanen’s writing is sharp and atmospheric.

I absolutely loved this book. It was a fantastic thriller through and through, and I could not put it down.

Stella Hudson is a court appointed attorney assigned to help determine custody arrangements for nine-year old Rose Barclay. Rose has developed mutism due to traumatic events in her life. Her nanny fell (or was pushed) to her death through a window in the family home. At the same time, Rose’s parents, Ian and Beth, are going through a divorce as a result of Ian’s infidelity with the nanny. Rose lives with both her parents and her paternal grandmother, Harriet, in the home and Stella is tasked with understanding the dynamics and making a recommendation to the courts.

Meanwhile, Stella is navigating her own life’s trauma and working through her own divorce.

As Stella works to understand the Barclay family’s relationships, things are becoming more and more mysterious and creepy.

The story unfolds at a breathtaking pace and there are surprises that I didn’t see coming. Pekkanen’s writing and storytelling did not disappoint. This was a five star read for me; I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

THIS is the kind of book that reminds me why I enjoy psychological thrillers so much!!! Stella was an easy character to root for; intelligent, perfectly flawed in her own ways and never gave up. EVERYONE was a suspect to me - from a piano teacher all the way down to a 7 year old girl. LOVED this one so much!

House of Glass was a really enjoyable thriller. The author wove a path of terror as the story is told. I was totally creeped out by the characters, literally all of them! I really enjoyed the back story and I think it helped create the current portion but I was let down by the ending. I enjoyed it but for as scared as I was I thought it was a bit rushed and could have been a little more sinister.

Thanks for the advanced copy!

Stella is a lawyer who specializes in being a guardian ad litem for children whose parents are divorcing. Her mentor, Charles, recommends that she take on the case of Rose, a nine-year-old girl whose nanny fell through a third story window and now is suffering from traumatic mutism. Stella also suffered from this condition after her mother was found dead. She might understand Rose but she is reliving her own trauma and perhaps could have been more objective. I also found it odd that as the child's advocate she is also investigating the murder. I'm not sure if Stella's past really enhanced Rose's story. I had an inkling of what was really happening early on and kept reading for confirmation.

I would like to thank Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for providing me with a digital copy.

I’m a big fan of Sarah pekkanen, I don’t think there’s a single book she’s done that I don’t love, and this book was no different!

First, I love the setup of a lawyer with a trauma background that specially only helps determine the best situation for the child. And the build on this one was perfect! The character development and twists kept you on your toes and wanting to keep reading. Devoured this as fast as I could! Sarah is an instant read for
