Really enjoyed this one! I really liked how we followed two different storylines here, one of Stella and one of Rose. The two stories came together nicely and everything made sense by the end! A good psychological thriller!

🔍 *House of Glass* by Sarah Pekkanen is a chilling psychological thriller that will have you questioning every truth and motive! From the first page, this novel masterfully builds suspense, pulling you into a world of wealth, deception, and haunting secrets.

At the heart of it all is Stella, an attorney tasked with helping nine-year-old Rose Barclay, a child traumatized into silence after witnessing her nanny’s mysterious death. As Stella steps into the gilded world of the Barclays, she quickly realizes that nothing is as it seems. The eerie plastic house without a single pane of glass serves as a perfect metaphor for the family itself—constructed, guarded, and deliberately opaque.

With a tangled web of suspects—including the mother, father, grandmother, and even Rose herself—the tension is razor-sharp, making every revelation even more shocking. Pekkanen excels at crafting an atmospheric, immersive story filled with psychological depth, twisted relationships, and jaw-dropping suspense.

If you love dark, gripping thrillers that keep you guessing until the very end, *House of Glass* needs to be on your TBR! Have you uncovered its secrets yet? Let’s talk theories! 📖✨

Interesting thriller with strong whodunnit vibes within a family. There were moments the author seemed to want to paint an unreliable narrator but it was a little inconsistent and ultimately would have preferred no doubt in the narrator. It was a good finale.

This book is about a nine year old girl Rose who witnesses the death of her nanny. Her parents are also going through a divorce. The story was engaging and had me at the edge of my seat. The reveal at the end was also satisfactory. A good thriller in my opinion. I would recommend it.

House of Glass is a tense, elegantly written psychological thriller that peels back the glittering surface of a wealthy family to reveal a maze of secrets, manipulation, and trauma. Centered on Stella Hudson, a sharp, emotionally scarred attorney thrust into the chilling world of the Barclays and their silent daughter, the story expertly blends legal drama with eerie domestic suspense.

The novel’s strength lies in its atmosphere—claustrophobic and polished, much like the glassless house where everything feels staged yet fragile. The mystery unfolds steadily, with each character revealing just enough to keep you guessing. While some elements veer toward the dramatic, the sharp prose and emotional complexity make this a standout thriller. A layered and suspenseful read that keeps the tension tight until the final reveal.

What a great read! Psychological, whodunit thriller! The pacing felt off, but I did find it to be an addictive read.

“Look, I acknowledge I wasn’t a great husband. Tina wasn’t my first affair. But I’m a good father. No matter what else they say about me, no one can take that away from me.” ~ Ian Barclay

House of Glass is my first book by Sarah Pekkanen but most certainly won't be my last, in fact, I can't wait to read her backlist!!! What a fantastic ride this was! Perfect pace, excellent character development, the perfect blend of two stories that somehow tie together. This was unputdownable!

“Despite all she has been through—a double betrayal, a death in her home, a public scandal, and a looming divorce—her manners are impeccable, her voice soft and cultured.” ~ Stella Hudson

If you love a story where EVERYONE is the suspect and you aren't sure who to believe, then THIS book is for you!!

A nanny for a well to-do family in D.C. falls to her death. Was it an accident or was she murdered? The wealthy couple she worked for is going through a divorce and are battling over the custody of their daughter, Rose. Stella Hudson, an attorney and someone with her own troubled past, has been appointed to represent Rose. But, Rose hasn't spoken a word since the Nanny's death. She's extremely isolated and is being homeschooled by her grandmother. When Stella goes to visit Rose at her home for the first time, an overwhelming sensation comes over her that there is something very dark happening in the house. She notices that all of the windows have been replaced with plastic. Not a stitch of glass anywhere in the house. But why???

"She needs help, Stella. Kids don’t do this sort of thing unless there is something seriously wrong at home.”

Oh man, buckle up because you will not be able to put this down once you get started! A well-paced page turner, with new pieces of information that come in at the right time, to keep you on your toes! Super suspenseful, with a perfect ending, so brilliantly written!

RUN, don't walk and add this to your TBR!!

A child gone mute, a murdered nanny, and a family in chaos with fingers pointed in all directions. Buckle up yall cause this was a wild ride. Full of creepy and intrigue and who is the real killer. The journey of piecing the puzzle together and hunting for the truth keeps you guessing and hooked. I love a good thriller and it’s always so much more fun when it’s done well and leaves me shocked in the end

Really enjoyed this book. So much so that I started looking into more of Sarah Pekkanen’s other books. This book was very smartly written and where I could see other authors loose the plot and the premise of the book, this author didn’t! It kept my interest and had good twist I didn’t see coming!

Beth, Ian and Rose Barclay presented as the perfect family with a perfect life, even though Ian’s mother lived with them while recovering from a surgery. They lived in a spectacular mansion in a suburb of DC and had everything they ever wanted. Until Ian’s affair with the nanny led to a contentious divorce and custody battle over Rose, who is the nine-year-old that witnessed the nanny’s subsequent death, is now mute and seems to be collecting weapons. Beth has removed all glass from the house.
Stella is a best interest attorney appointed to Rose’s case. At first Stella refuses to take the cause due to her own childhood trauma but realizes that she is best suited to help Rose because her trauma caused her to have “traumatic mutism” as well. To do her job, Stella has to spend time with the family and ultimately present her case as to which parent should have sole custody of Rose. Every time she enters their home, she feels a darkness inside and can’t wait to get out.
As Stella’s case progresses, Ian, Beth and Harriet (Rose’s grandmother) close ranks around Rose to protect her and Stella begins to question that the nanny could have been murdered by any of them – including Rose.
This was a pretty quick read and caught my attention from page one. Highly recommend!

A nanny falls to her death under mysterious circumstances, and the only witness, a nine-year-old girl, is left mute and deeply traumatized. Brought in to support the child during her parents' custody battle, Stella soon realizes there’s much more going on beneath the surface. As she gets closer to the truth, the danger around her begins to escalate.

I can’t believe I waited this long to read House of Glass. This book had me hooked from the first page. It’s one of those tightly wound psychological thrillers where everyone seems suspicious and nothing is quite what it seems. Every time I thought I had figured it out, the story twisted in another direction.

There’s something especially chilling about mysteries involving children, and this one used that to full effect. The atmosphere was tense, the writing sharp, and the plot completely immersive. It builds slowly at first, but once it takes off, you won’t be able to stop turning the pages.

I loved how the suspense was layered, there were emotional stakes, psychological tension, and just the right amount of creepiness. The ending genuinely surprised me, and I was guessing wrong the whole way through.

If you’re looking for a gripping, binge-worthy read that will keep you up past your bedtime, House of Glass definitely delivers. I’m officially adding this author to my must-read list.

I wasn't sure about this and I will be honest - my hesitancy came from the cover. I thought House of Glass looked so much like A Court of Thorn and Roses books that I immediately wanted to pass as I don't particularly care for fantasy. I am so glad I didn't, as this book was really good and kept me entertained thoroughly.

Interesting premise but didn’t pull me in like I expected. Good story but wasn’t my favorite thriller, didn’t have the “can’t put it down” quality that I love.

After witnessing her nanny going through the upstairs window, falling to her death, and in the midst of her parents divorcing, it's no wonder nine year old Rose goes mute. The problem is, Rose can't advocate for herself about who she wants to live with. Insert Stella, a lawyer tasked with placing Rose with the best parent after the divorce but as Stella spends more time with the family she has a suspicion that the fall wasn't an accident and everyone is lying.

This was the first solo Sarah Pekkanen book I've read and I devoured it! I couldn't put this book down because I needed to know Rose's fate. I immediately added Pekkanen's other books to my TBR.

Thank you NetGalley for the eARC!

The tension and twists in this book were really well done and I liked how the story slowly unraveled layer by layer. The characters were complex and believable and I enjoyed trying to piece everything together.

Sarah Pekkanen has quickly become one of my favorite new authors. I loved the first book I read by her, Gone Tonight, and I really liked this book too, although not quite as much.

We start with a mute child, which is always a trope I enjoy. I was getting Baby Teeth vibes here. Then we have the dispassionate rich mother Beth, her good looking blue collar husband, an overly-involved Grandmother, and a dead nanny whose fall from a window may or may not have been foul play. Investigating all this is our recently divorced narrator who has a traumatic past of her own.

I enjoyed the mystery of how the nanny died and the surprising twists in the plot. Pekkanen’s writing style is smooth and I slipped right in like a warm knife into butter. I liked the characters and how realistic they were.

I’ve already started reading this author’s newest novel, The Locked Ward.

Thank you Netgalley for a free ARC for review consideration.

Thank you for the ARC!

Really enjoyed this one. It had a creepy, atmospheric vibe that kept me hooked, and the mystery unfolded in a way that felt satisfying without being too predictable. Some slower moments, but overall a solid, engaging read with characters I actually cared about.

4/5 – not perfect, but definitely worth picking up.
