This book kept me wanting to read! About half way through, I guessed "whodunit". The story was a well put together plot and the characters had good character development.

I was very much enjoying this story up to the 90 percent mark, then it felt like everything kind of fell apart at the end. The grandmother's reason for masterminding all these problems seemed flimsy and unrealistic. Too much was revealed about Charles in the final few pages. Finally, the same sex attraction she has with Detective Garcia despite "being straight" just seemed out of place in the story. If the ending had been a homerun, this would have been a four star read for me.

Stella is an attorney who helps children in custody cases. Her newest client is Rose, a 9 year old who witnessed her nanny fall to her death and hasn’t spoken since. As Stella gets to know Rose and her family, she can tell things aren’t right in the house. For example, all the glass has been replaced with plastic, including the window panes. Something is off about the nanny’s death, and it’s up to Stella to figure out what happened and determine where will be safest for Rose to live after her parents’ divorce.

I intended to read the first 20 pages of this just to see what it was about, and I ended up reading half the book! This one went quickly, with twists and turns throughout the story that kept me guessing. I really enjoyed Stella as a character and wish this could be a series. And Detective Garcia?! Hot.

4.5 stars

I really enjoyed this new mystery and found myself needing to keep reading to find out the truth at the end. I liked that Stella, the lawyer, and Rose, the young girl, have a connection of both experiencing traumatic mutism. Rose after witnessing the murder of her Nanny and Stella, as a child, after finding her mother dead. I liked wondering if Rose was somehow involved or if somebody else in the family was the culprit. There were certainly reasons for any of them to do it and I liked all of the twists and turns along the way that had me questioning who was responsible. What dropped it down to 4 stars for me was the ending. We found out the conclusion, but then there were a few more chapters that almost seemed unnecessary or like it could have been shortened. The love story didn't really need to be added or could have been handled a little differently as there just wasn't enough depth to it, almost glossed over. It also felt like Stella was stepping far too much outside of her role as just the guardian ad litem, deciding custody in a divorce case. I understand the curiosity, but in reality, she would not have been allowed to investigate so much in the way she did. I definitely recommend adding this to your summer TBR though and I'll be looking for more by this author!

Thank you to Netgalley, St. Martin's Press and Sarah Pekkanen for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

House of Glass, a new thriller by Sarah Pekkanen, comes out August 6, 2024!

House of Glass is about the murder of a little girl, Rose’s, nanny and the investigation into what happened. Rose is just a child but suspected of the murder but since the incident occurred she has been mute. Stella, a lawyer, is tasked with discovering what happened and helping Rose if she can. Stella and rose have experience with muteness in common since Stella has her own traumatic past. Throughout the story Stella will discover things about herself and past along with whatever secrets are hiding in Rose’s family.

This story captured me from the beginning and seemed to move quickly. )It took me a bit to get through but that’s my personal life right now not the book) it kept me guessing and overall enjoyed it. I thought the ending seemed a little long? Like the crime was solved but there were still a few chapters yet and it struck me as a little odd, maybe could have ended more concisely but also it fleshed out Stella’s story more so I get it from that respect.

What a fun ride this was! It's a solid thriller, with twists and turns. This is the story of Stella, a young attorney who works with kids involved in custody battles in DC. Her newest "client" is a young girl who is now mute after seeing her nanny fall from the third floor to her death. Turns out the father was involved with the nanny, and she was pregnant with his baby. So what really happened to the nanny? Who should this young girl end up with? Stella finds herself getting more and more involved with this family, with creeps twists around every corner...including the mute young girl. Is she really an innocent witness...or did she have something to do with the nanny's death?

House of Glass is ironically about a house that has no glass in it. Beth claims she has a phobia of glass, but we come to find out this is not the case. Nine-year-old Rose is the reason for the lack of glass in the house but also the possible culprit behind her nanny Tina’s suspicious death? Rose’s parents, Ian and Beth Barclay, are divorcing and our main character Stella is brought in to determine what custody arrangement is best for Rose. But then she starts to suspect that maybe Rose needs more help than she thought. Could Rose have been upset over Tina’s affair with Ian and killed her? Why is she hiding knives and sharp pieces of glass? Why is she reading a story about Ted Bundy?

There are also a few subplots involving Stella’s childhood and the death of her parents. There are definitely parallels drawn between Stella and Rose. Stella’s past informs her motivations and is the only reason she agreed to take Stella’s case.

There are many twists in this book that I did not find to be predictable. Many heavy issues are touched upon, including death of a parent, drug and alcohol abuse, and children witnessing traumatic events. While these topics may be triggering to some, I found they added depth and layers to the story. There’s a little love interest thrown in at the end that I thought was unnecessary and didn’t add to the story. Overall, an exciting and fast paced read that I would recommend.

House Of Glass by Sara Peckanen,, this book is about a child advocate lawyer name Stella Hutson who is asked to do a favor by her father figure in Judge Charles a nine year old girl is not only going through her parents divorce but recently lost her nanny Tina when she fell out her third story bedroom end it looks like the little girl Rose Barkley may have done it. She is now mute and doesn’t speak something that also happened to Stella as a young girl when she found her mom deceased. There’s lots more to this book but everyone in the grandma has given a summary let me give you my opinion. OK I’ve wasted enough time on this book so let me get to my opinion first off the fact that the author kept wanting to explain to me things that in my opinion were common sense really started to grade on my nerves. It usually takes me a day to read a book maybe a day and a half… I started reading this book at least five days ago I would read it put it down and then force myself to pick it up again. Not only that throughout the book Stella acted is if she was an empath and had these feelings about certain situations and would come to conclusions over minimal evidence. Such as in one scene someone says you know when your husband is cheating because he becomes possessive over his cell phone and just that statement alone leads her to very serious implications. Not only that throughout the book it seem like more than just her job like she had a heroes complex and through this review it may seem as if I didn’t like Stella but I really did it was just some things that irked me about her. I have never read a Book by this author before but heard so much about her and wanted to give one of her books a chance… Well now I have. A lot of people like this book so do read it you may like it as well, I did not.#NetGalley, #SaintMartinsPress, #HouseOfGlass, #SarahPeckanen,

Sarah Pekkanen's books have usually been successful for me. When I saw she wrote a book involving a nanny death with suspicious circumstances, I knew I needed to pick it up immediately. Overall, I liked the propulsive plot, although some parts became a bit cumbersome near the end. I found myself very interested in Stella and her story, so much so that I'd love to see future books with her as a main character. If you are looking for a fast paced, twisty psychological thriller for your beach bag, this is definitely one to pick up!

I could not put this book down! I read in 24 hours. I would think I had it figured out and then, no! I was completely wrong. I did this the entire book. So many twists and turns... So many suspects... I loved it!

I also loved the storyline of the FMC's life and what was going on with her personally and professionally!

This was a fantastic read and I highly recommend!

Thank you St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for providing me a copy for my honest review!

This book was so twisty and fun. Stella is a best interest attorney assigned to look into the Barclay family to determine custody of 9-year-old Rose, amid her parents' bitter divorce. The biggest issue? Rose hasn't spoken since the shocking death of her nanny in the family home. As Stella investigates the inner-workings of the family, which also includes Rose's ever-present grandmother, she starts to wonder whether this wasn't an accident and who among the four could be the murderer. The book was fast paced and full of turns that worked really well. For a moment I was wondered it would veer into too twisty for the plot to actually work well but Pekkanen ultimately executed the final twists quite well, allowing for it all to come together.

Stella focused in her career on helping teens in challenging situations. When her mentor asks her to take on a case with a younger child, she is nervous. Soon she believes she is the only person who could possibility help the child. As Stella gets to know the family, she starts to learn more about the suspicious death of the child’s nanny.

I enjoyed this one. Fast paced. Twisty. Interesting characters.

I was completely and utterly OBSESSED with this book. Sarah Pekkanen NEVER disappoints and this one had me on the edge of my seat until the very last moment!

I received both the galley and the advanced audiobook of this book and honestly, I listened and read 44% of the book and I’m just not interested. The main character doesn’t interest me the case that she’s working on. I find that the family has all questionable narrators and I don’t trust anyone, but I’m really not interested in who killed the nanny. I’m sorry I can’t give an honest review of this book because I can’t finish it. Thank you.

Sarah Pekkanen never misses! This was such a twisty thriller. I truly didn’t know what to think as the whole family could be guilty. Such a fantastic story.
