I enjoyed this book and devoured it in 24 hours. I would argue it is more of a family drama than a thriller/murder mystery. I also think the backstory of Stella’s mom didn’t really move the plot along….?

As a mystery enthusiast, "House of Glass" hit many of the right notes for me! The story centers on Stella, a best interest attorney assigned to a young girl whose family is in chaos after the nanny's suspicious fall. Was it an accident, suicide, or something more sinister? Every household member is a suspect, including the little girl, who has been mute since the incident.

While the book delves into Stella's own troubled past, I felt these parts didn't add much to the main mystery. I found myself getting bored during these segments and guessed the twist related to her storyline pretty early on. Personally, I would have preferred a deeper exploration of the family's intricate relationships and the peculiar house they live in.

From the first chapter, I was captivated, and the story kept my attention throughout.

Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the advance copy!

This was a GOOD SLOW BURN. There were so many twists and turns - who killed Tina? Was it the husband, Ian? What about the wife, Beth, who knew about the affair? the old grandma? or was it Rose, the little girl who is all of a sudden mute... I didn't expect the ending that came from this one. The last 20% was an all out sprint to find out what happened.

House Of Glass
By: Sarah Pekkanen

5 Stars

Stella has one job and that is to advocate for her client. Her most recent client will change her more than she ever expected. Rose is a 9 year old who has witnessed the death of her nanny as well as the harsh divorce between her parents. Everything is not how it seems, and soon Stella is amidst a crazy mystery.

This book was twisty and thrilling. I was completely absorbed with Rose and her family. The characters in this story really win you over. They are so relatable that the pain and trauma was palpable from the pages. I could "feel" this story. The storyline was gripping and will keep you reading and on the edge of your seat. This is one psychological thriller that will stay with me.

This book had me guessing who the bad guy was the whole time which is a positive.
The negative was the fact that I just was really bored with most of it, and this is very unlike all her other books, because usually her books, keep me riveted, and at the edge of my seat
I usually like dual storylines, but this one just didn’t work for me. It felt like it was just super random and unnecessary. Stella backstory, but I will continue to read her books because the twist was really decent in this one.

Really loved this book, kept my interest throughout and kept me guessing. I questioned each character I think at one point or the other throughout. Was pleasantly surprised with the ending.

I finished this one about a week ago and still can't quite decide how I feel about it. For starters, the story grabbed me in from the first page and I had a hard time putting it down - it had a unique storyline with an ending that I definitely didn't see coming! Felt like an entertaining and suspenseful Lifetime movie in the best way!

That being said, some of the events at the very end fell apart a bit and Stella's backstory didn't feel very relevant to the plot other than having something in common with Rose - her panic attacks felt more like a shock factor than something necessary to the overall story. Overall, I did enjoy it and plan on reading more of Pekkanen's works. Thanks for the ARC!

I love a good whodunnit, and House of Glass definitely delivered!
Stella is a best interest attorney assigned to a little girl whose parents are going through a divorce after the nanny plunged to her death from an attic window. Was it an accident? Was it suicide? Was she pushed? Everyone is a suspect- and I do mean everyone, including the little girl, who has selective mutism after the death of her nanny.
Stella has trauma in her past, and that is hashed out in the book, woven throughout the plot. Admittedly, these parts weren’t my favorite, and I do feel they don’t contribute all that much to the main storyline. Instead, I would have liked a more in-depth look into the complex family and the unique house they live in.
I was sucked in from the very first chapter and the book kept my interest the entire time. Was the ending super far-fetched? Yes. Did I enjoy every second of it? Also yes.

I have a problem when reading thrillers. I either become immediately invested, or I struggle to buy in until the halfway point. House of Glass sucked me in right away!

It is told from the point of view of Stella Hudson. She is a best interest attorney to Rose, who is suffering from traumatic mutism after her nanny died due to falling out of a second-story window.
If you like thrillers that include creepy houses, children, and everyone’s a suspect, I think you’ll enjoy this one! It honestly could have been 5 stars, but there were a few minor plot points that I felt weren’t necessary to the story.
This comes out on August 6th!

Thank you, NetGalley for my gifted ARC for my review.

I binged the crap out of this creepy book! Some scenes had my hair raising, and I was holding my breath while trying to yell at our MC, Stella, to get the H-E-double hockey sticks OUT OF THE HOUSE!!

This book is eerie, and one where you don’t know who to trust. Their family drama had them all acting suspiciously, so everyone was a suspect. What are they hiding???? I might have had a lucky guess for part of the twist, but it didn’t take away from the enjoyment at all!

I so enjoyed reading about Stella’s job because quite frankly, I didn’t know something like that existed. She represented children in divorce cases to place them in the most beneficial situation for them…and Rose is her hardest client. Not only is she tasked to figuring out the family dynamics, but she is also trying to figure what really happened to Rose’s nanny 🕵️‍♀️

There was a sub-plot with Stella’s past that gave you some great character depth and helped her to relate to Rose, but I could have easily done without some of it.

Overall, I definitely recommend this page turner!

A decent thriller with a good (but ultimately really kind of sad) twist that is a cross between The Bad Seed and Run in how things are portrayed (rather than what really happens). Stella is a good narrator, but wholly biased and absorbed in her own trauma throughout the story. 3 stars.

I truly enjoyed this book so much - as I have most novels by this author. This would be a great fast paced thriller to take on your next trip. I will be gifting this to friends and family this year.

I enjoyed the House of Glass. It was a good mystery thriller that was an easy read. I had a hunch that Harriett was the “bad guy” in the story before I was a quarter through the book, but the evidence against Rose was strong. When Stella interviews the Chinese tutor, it mentions that there were only stairs available to get to her upstairs apartment. At that point in the book, it had been mentioned that the grandmother took the elevator everywhere because of her bad knee and the grandmother was the one to take her to her lessons. I figured that was either an oversight or a clue. There was some ambiguity in the story relating to Stella’s mother. In one chapter it says she died from an overdose, in another it was murder. It isn’t until later that it is explained that Stella isn’t sure how she died and it becomes part of the plot. I didn’t feel that Stella’s mother’s death story was pivotal to the story overall and could have been left out. Additionally, I didn’t think Stella’s marriage or dating life was necessary. For these reasons I gave the book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5. I would definitely try another book by this author.

Who killed the nanny??
Our main character, Stella has an important job to do. She has to decide what’s best for a child in the middle of an ugly custody battle. This child, Rose, cannot tell Stella how she feels as she now has traumatic mutism since the death of her nanny. Stella wants what is best for her client and becomes very involved in a murder mystery along the way. This was an eerie read involving a strange house and a child that you may want to watch your back around. I loved the main character and how her personal story was connected throughout. This was such a fantastic read! I would 100% recommend this! 5 STARS!

I really enjoyed this book from the very first pages through the end! The author created a well-paced, creepy, original plot set amongst an eerie mansion with an untrustworthy family. I could feel Stella’s uneasiness every time she went into the house. I was on the edge of my seat, especially when the child was involved, who I found a bit evil and unstable. Easy to read and kept my attention. Another winner from Sarah Pekkanen.

This was the first story I have read by Sarah Pekkanen and it will not be my last. House of Glass is a twisty tale following the Barclay family and Stella, a BIA who is to figure out custody arrangement for Rose. But how did Tina the nanny die? All signs seem to point to Rose having a hand in it. But did she? Sarah did a fantastic job of weaving this story together and it had me guessing until the end. I always enjoy a book with short chapters that sometimes leave you hanging so you have to keep reading. Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for this ARC in exchange for a honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book was so full of twist and turns and I was there for the ride!
It all starts when the nanny falls out a window and dies, with many shocked to learn she was pregnant at the time with the father's baby. The little girl she was taking care of has since stopped talking and many start to question if she was the one to push the nanny out of the window but her grandmother says the two of them were outside when it happened. As the court appointed liaison for the child starts to get to know the family better and help decide who the child should live with since the parents have decided to get divorced the truth starts to reveal itself but not in the way you would expect.

Thank you to NetGalley for the free advance reader’s copy. I leave this review voluntarily. Stella is a child advocate attorney who has been asked to determine which parent should get custody of nine year old Rose who stopped talking after a trauma. The death of her nanny. At some points, the story reads as a horror with a creepy house, creepy Rose and bewildering erratically behaved parents and grandmother. Stella has also decided she wants to learn more about her mother’s death. It is well written and does keep the reader guessing. Even if you suspect you know, you may not have all the details that come out in the end. It did bother me that Beth stepped on glass following the incident but Stella notes how she’s always wearing shoes. In my mind, I justify the shoe wearing was a result of cutting her foot. It was an odd detail I thought. I would highly recommend this one. I read it very quickly.

I could not put this book down. It’s about a lawyer, Stella, who has to decide on the custody agreement for her young client whose parents are going through a divorce. Her young client is one of her youngest cases, as she currently has reactive mutism after witnessing her nanny suffer a horrible accident/potential murder.

I feel like this was a unique concept for a book plot! Everytime I thought I had it all figured out, I quickly learned that I in fact did not. I’ll definitely be reading more by this author!

Stella is a court appointed attorney working to deem what is in a child’s best interest for parental custody. Stella is working for Rose, a nine year old girl who is exhibiting symptoms of mutism after witnessing the death of her nanny. Stella fears she can’t trust anyone: the parents, Beth and Ian, the grandmother, Harriet, and the child, Rose.

I was either holding my breath or panicking the entirety of this book. It was such a fast paced and wild ride! Childhood trauma is very difficult to read about, so check TWs, but I felt the author handled these topics very well and explained situations in detail when necessary. I loved the family drama with the addition of the outsider.

The audio narration was fantastic. I couldn’t put it down and wanted to listen as fast as my ears would allow to figure out the mystery.
