A totally twisty thriller that I loved! The writing is phenomenal and completely sucks the reader in from beginning to end. The suspense was crazy and I could not put this down!

Thank you St. Martin's Press for the gifted e-ARC.
I enjoyed the house of glass thoroughly. It took a bit to get into the storyline of the "who dun it" and I was almost convinced the baby (Rose, young child, but all children are babies to me) was guilty as charged, but wow was I shocked at the ending.
Sarah did a great job of keeping my engaged once the book picked up and kept me guessing. This is a very readable story about relationships, the destruction of them and the children who get caught in between.
Definitely recommend!

Thank you St. Martin's Press for sending me this ARC of House of Glass. I've come to enjoy Sarah Pekkanen's work over the years and I was grateful to get my hands on this book early.
The story centers on Stella Hudson, a best interest attorney. She is hired to give her recommendation on who should have custody of nine year old Rose Barclay. Not only is Rose in the middle of her parent's bitter divorce. She also witnessed the death of her nanny and since then has been mute.
I thought the plot was well written as was the character development. I also liked how the Barclay's mansion was a character in itself. Through Sarah's writing, the house had an ominous feel to it and even at times felt like maybe it was haunted.
It's been a while since I've liked a MC in a book. I really appreciated that I never questioned Stella's motives while she was doing her job. It all felt very genuine and it made her a very likable main character.
I really enjoyed this story. This had me guessing up until the end with a very satisfying ending. That doesn't happen often. Looking forward to her next book already.
Expected publication: 8/6/24

The nanny for a wealthy family plummeted to her death from her third-floor bedroom window. The case has turned cold as everyone who lives in the Barclay’s house could be culpable but there is no evidence pointing to anyone specifically. Best Interest Attorney, Stella Hudson, has been assigned to assess the living condition and relationships of 9-year-old, Rose Barclay, who has suffered from traumatic mutism after witnessing her nanny plummet to her death. Stella has quite the task as everyone begins to look like they could have caused the death of the nanny, even Rose. Stella has her own traumatic past which helps her relate to Rose. Stella must provide a recommendation of who Rose should be assigned custody upon the divorce of her parents. Stella must uncover mysteries within the Barclay case and also her own personal life.
This mystery thriller captured me from the first chapter. I accused each character of the nanny’s death at different points of the book. I somewhat expected the twist that was to come but not overly early in the book. I found it hard to put this book down as each chapter left me on edge to what was to come. I enjoyed and despised the characters. I struggled between giving this book 4 or 5 stars. Had the story twist been unexpected or maybe had other twists that made my jaw drop, it would have been a 5 star. With that being said, I still really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to mystery thriller readers.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for sharing this advance digital reviewer copy and allowing me to provide my honest review.

This book has a creepy house where the murder of the nanny takes place and the child is a possible suspect as well as the parents. Then enters Stella who is appointed by the court to represent the best interest of Rose (the child). Stella is also determined to figure out what happened to the nanny. Stella also is seeking answers in the suspicious death of her mother.
This book had me from the very beginning, it is a gripping whodunnit thriller. Highly recommend this one. Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC in exchange for my review.

3.5, rounding up. A beyond creepy psychological thriller focused on Rose, a young girl who can't speak following the trauma of witnessing the death of her nanny. This death is at the center of the novel and everyone - including Rose - becomes a suspect in the death. Stella, a successful lawyer, is assigned to the case and becomes embroiled in the family drama. The ending left me shooketh (hence the rounding up to 4 stars.)
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

House of Glass is a binge-worthy thrilling family drama, with a touch of “spooky” thrown in. I easily devoured this book in one day.
Rose, 9 years old, has been mute since the day her nanny died. The question has always been: what truly happened? Was the nanny pushed, or did she fall out of the window? And if pushed, who is responsible? Not only is Rose not saying anything, but she now seems to collect sharp objects in the pockets of her dresses.
Stella is a lawyer who’s assigned to deciding which parent will get Rose in a custody battle. Throw in the fact that a very overbearing grandma lives in the house, and this will have you on the edge of your seat!
Thank you to NetGalley and St Martins Press for this ARC in return for my honest opinion.

Ok, I have to confess…I like my thrillers dark and twisted. So when the suspicion of the CHILD being the monster, I couldn’t put it down.
This thriller spooked me and kept me reading long into the night. I thought the character of Stella was well fleshed out and felt 3 dimensional.
I do have some qualms though…

SPOILER ALERT
Ok, it’s on you now if you read this.
I wish it had have been the child. When it became the grandmother I for some reason became less invested in the plot… It didn’t make sense to me how this old woman was actually pretending not to be so old and it actually made more sense to me if Rose was the evil one. The sweet ending just felt out of place for me.
As well, I Love that we see LGBTQ plus representation and a main character, but it felt like the love interest was a little bit sprung out of nowhere…I wish there was more build up to it so it didn’t feel like an addition but actually part of the character.
Still a solid book!

One of my all time favorite authors does it again. I believed most of the book I had it all figured out…but of course I was wrong. So many twists and turns, loved the dynamics of the mute child, the mystery of who the murderer was and of course the love story. This one has it all. Great read.

I thought House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen was an engaging read with very complicated characters. I would read another book by this author.

Great book! Good character development and keeps you hooked to see what is going on. Predicted the big twist, but still very good!

When the nanny for a rich family falls (or was pushed?) to her death at their mansion, everyone from the parents, grandmother and even the young daughter are suspects. Everything about this was either painfully predictable or laughably cheesy. I’m a sucker for the creepy child trope, which is the only thing that saved this from being a complete flop for me.

This was a fun one! I was unsure throughout the book of who the villian was, which I appreciate since sometimes it is too obvious. Entertaining, good ending.

House of Glass was my first book by author Sarah Pekkanen. I enjoyed her writing style and the way her book kept me guessing until the very end.
What I liked about the book:
* There was a cast of unreliable characters so you were always suspicious of them and trying to figure out their role in the mystery
* Stella the best interest attorney had trauma from her past that came up that she had to deal with due to this case. I liked learning about her background.
* The layers that were revealed as the story went on.
Read if you like:
* Lies, secrets and deception
* unreliable characters
* a mystery that has you questioning everyone
* eerie house vibes
* creepy kid vibes
* suspense
* trauma
Who would enjoy this book:
If you are a fan of Sarah Pekkanen or enjoy a good mystery/suspense book, then I recommend reading this book. It will be published on August 6, 2024.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an advanced copy of this book. I voluntarily read it and gave an honest review.

"A House of Glass" by Susan Fletcher is a beautifully written novel that had its moments but didn't fully captivate me. The story, set in the early 20th century, follows Clara Waterfield as she builds a glasshouse at a mysterious manor. While Fletcher's prose is haunting and lyrical, and she captures the eerie atmosphere well, I found the pacing a bit slow at times. The blend of historical fiction and gothic suspense was interesting, but the mystery didn't always hold my attention. Overall, it's a decent read with rich details, but it didn't quite meet my expectations.

I did not want this book to end. It captured me from the beginning. The character development was great while the storyline had a newer twist. This did remind me a little bit of The Push which is one of my favorite books.
Stella is tasked with helping a young girl after the unexpected death of her nanny. She has the responsibility of deciding with who she will live with and overall Rosa’s best interests. As she digs deeper into what happened with Tina, she feels the need to help solve the mystery and figure out what happened.

Another great book by Sarah Pekkanen. I first listened to the audiobook and the narration was well done. I enjoyed the mystery/thriller so much, I then read the book. I plan on recommending the book to my book club. It will have you going in so many directions. Just when you think you have got it figured out, you’re off in a different direction. I also think the book cover is one of the best!

Read Completed 5/29/24 | 3.5 stars
Thank you to the publisher, Macmillan Audio / St. Martin's Press, for the audiobook review copy. This did not affect my review in any way.
HOUSE OF GLASS was like definition "okay" thriller. I wasn't really wowed by Sarah Pekkanen's last book, GONE TONIGHT, and this one was a little bit better but it just wasn't anything original nor was it high octane and fast-paced to make up for it. I really enjoyed the co-author team of Sarah Pekkanen & Greer Hendricks... not sure what happened to Greer Hendricks, but those books just had better chemistry for me.
HOUSE OF GLASS wasn't bad, but I've read far too many thrillers to really be impressed by it. I did like the main character and narrator Stella, and I had fun watching the the mystery of the Barclay house unravel. This was a little like THE SILENT PATIENT in the sense that Rose is no longer speaking after the traumatic incident of watching her nanny die. Was it murder? And if so, who did it? Anyone in the house is a suspect, including Rose herself. I didn't feel like this was too close to THE SILENT PATIENT or anything, but it still maybe be of interest for fans of the book! It was just an average thriller that felt pretty tame, in my opinion, and there wasn't really any twist or reveal that shocked me. Thrillers don't always have to have a wild twist, but when the rest of the book isn't really catching me, a good twist does help to raise that rating a bit.
I felt like the author handed the reader a few too many things. I always like to read reviews after I finish the book, and it seems like plenty of people were still shocked by the ending, but I thought a lot of things were spelled out for me. Was I 100% sure? No, it could have been anyone, but the culprit was still well within our sights and I wish there was something pushing us away so it would have been a bit more exciting to reveal.
While this was a bit more suspenseful than GONE TONIGHT, HOUSE OF GLASS still was medium-paced, which again, is fine, but the rest of the details didn't really grab me. I was definitely interested in who killed the nanny and I was entertained the whole read, so that's why I went with 3.5 stars, but it didn't cross that threshold to really hit 4, and I wasn't disengaged enough to lower it to a 3. The author also tried to throw in the hint of a romance at 80% and no no no, that is not necessary whatsoever.

House of Glass is a captivating thriller that keeps you guessing until the very end. As Stella works to learn more about the Barclay family and uncover the truth behind why Rose has become mute, she discovers many more secrets than she expected. Readers are led into a web of deceit, culminating in a shocking revelation that you won’t see coming. With masterful storytelling and intricate plot twists, this novel keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. A must-read for fans of suspense and mystery!

I loved this book. It made me think, it made me feel and it gave me hope. A troubled family and an especially troubled young girl is investigated for custody during a divorce. Her nanny has died in the house, was it an accident or did someone in the house kill her. Twists and turns as she investigates and also delves into her own painful past and the families we chose. Depth and heart and easy to get lost in. It is worth repeating......Loved it!
