Foods for Grazing if Herbivore is You

“Divorce Your Diet—and Live Healthier Ever After” by Hollan Goewey makes several excellent points to readers about eating to live, rather than living to eat.

Her overall philosophy, that most of us rollercoaster dieters know without being told, is that to be healthy and fit we must adhere to a nutritious eating regime and a healthy lifestyle because “diets” by their very nature don’t work.

Why is this? Because most of us define DIET as a short term solution rather than a way of life. In this aspect, I concur wholeheartedly with Goewey.

She suggests that those of us desiring to reduce initially began by making small changes in what we eat by substituting healthier, lower fat, lower calorie options for more densely caloric options.

However, as “Divorce” progresses, it becomes obvious that it is more a treatise on plant-based eating than anything else. Perhaps the title would more accurately reflect the contents if it were something to the order of ”Divorce Meat and Eat Clean..”

Goewey’s recommendations on developing and sticking to healthy living and eating strategies are sound advice for everyone. The decision towards plant-based eating must be a personal preference.

JoyReaderGirl1 graciously thanks NetGalley, Author Hollan Goewey, and Publisher Urano World USA Inc., Urano Publishing for this advance reader’s copy (ARC) for review.

This was a bait and switch. Instead of breaking from a diet mind culture, this is a vegan evangelical work. There is some good info here but it's wrapped in whoo whoo (life hack: you can see your poop without a colonic). The recipes are nothing new nor ground breaking. In fact, the author doesn't make the healthiest choices. I have never seen so little cocoa nibs when chocolate is around. Also, always drain and wash your canned veggies; don't just throw them in a pot. Your body doesn't need that much sodium.

What truly sets this book apart is its inclusive and non-judgmental tone. Rather than attempting to convert readers to veganism, the author simply offers a wealth of knowledge and practical tips that can benefit anyone looking to improve their overall well-being. Whether you're a seasoned vegan, a flexitarian, or someone simply curious about exploring a more plant-centric diet, this book has something to offer everyone.

I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in taking control of their health and making positive changes in their lifestyle. It is a valuable resource that is both informative and inspiring, and I have no doubt that it will leave a lasting impact on its readers. When it finally hits the shelves, I will enthusiastically recommend it to my friends and family, confident that they too will find it to be an enriching and eye-opening read.

Thank you to Netgalley and Urano World for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

3/5 Stars. Thank you, NetGalley and Urano World USA Inc, Urano Publishing for this eARC of Divorce Your Diet by Hollan Goewey for an honest review.

I feel like this book was a little bit misleading with the title. I understand that a vegan lifestyle can be healthy but it may not be for everyone. (Especially if you have kiddos with particular texture requirements and not enough time to cook separate meals.) This book is very informative, especially on the ingredients in clean food vs processed foods. I respect the knowledge provided by the author because it reminds me of the time that I did Whole 30 and it provided me with a lot more energy and the feeling of being "clean". Unfortunately, this is probably a book I would've enjoyed in my younger days before having kids (with and without special needs). This book reminded me of my younger days when I didn't have anyone else to care for and had more time for meal preparation and working out.

I do enjoy a few of the smoothie recipes listed towards the end of the book. Very informative, unfortunately just not for me.

I enjoyed reading this book and I learned a few new things as well. The market for diet books is pretty broad, but there's always place for new valuable books. Most of all I liked the psychological reasoning behind the food choices.

This book effortlessly captivated me with its readability and swift pace. Despite not being a vegan, the intriguing cover and title drew me in. It generously provided valuable advice for both health and lifestyle, steering clear of the pushiness often found in books advocating a meat-less diet. Its universal insights make it a worthwhile recommendation for anyone when it becomes available on shelves.

This book resonated with me because I too have dieted on and off for a very long time.
The author speaks plainly (sometimes ‘salty’) about the lies and misinformation the diet industry promotes. Then there’ are the poor quality foods we are lured through predatory marketing.
The author is a vegan chef. She knows food and gives her readers ways to heal their bodies with the best fuel available. I liked how she addressed our mindset and the ability to rethink nourishment and take control of our health and well being. Hollan is like a very smart friend who wants to help!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Not only did I learn more in-depth ways to process my ideas about food, I also learned quite a bit about the human body. Hollan provides tools for people to get started on their own health journey, while providing background of her own growth and what divorcing her diet did for her.
I would recommend this book to anyone trying to get healthier through food and stick to those new beliefs around foods and diet, and those who are interested in health and self growth. Can’t wait to try the recipes! They look delicious.

I really enjoyed how easy this book was to read, and it was a quick read. I am not a Vegan, however, I was intrigued by the cover and the title of the book. It offered a lot of good advice for your health and lifestyle. At no point did I feel that it was pushy like many books promoting a meat-less diet. It had good information in it that pertains to everyone! I would recommend it to friends when it hits the shelves.

The title of this book is fantastic and is what lured me in to check it out but the basic premise of the book is about a plant based diet and why it's the much better choice for your body. I can't argue with the fact that this is a lifestyle that works for some people but I personally don't think it would work for me and therefore the concepts in this book are not applicable to me. I think the book description should have stated more thoroughly the direction of the author's intent to educate on a plant based vegan diet. I learned somethings but that type of "diet" wouldn't be easy to follow for me and for most.

NOT ON GOODREADS --- yet.

Synopsis:
****************
Divorce Your Diet is about just that –teaching readers how to break up with diets and food beliefs that have not served them well in finding health. I am focused on what I can do to help people better understand their bodies and, more specifically, how to feed them more healthfully.
This book strives to teach people healthier ways to replace what they already eat. While educating readers on ways to keep their bodies healthy, Divorce Your Diet will also introduce techniques on how readers can become more in tune with themselves and their health. People have traded diet for diet and yo-yo back and forth until they give up. The goal of Divorce Your Diet is to teach people that health can be intuitive and that by swapping out some ingredients for healthier ones, we can start to listen to and understand our bodies on a deeper level and meet them where they need us.

Am I the only one who found the synopsis confusing and repeating?
Common sense? Do you have it? Great - save yourself the money and divorce your need to read this book. It is a vegan manifesto. And mostly GF.
Am I being harsh? Yeah, probably ... but some books rub me the wrong way ... this did as did her first vanity project book. (I do promise honesty in exchange for reviewing!)
