What a unique plot. I wasn't sure how I was going to like Assassins Anonymous since it sounded a bit outside of my normal reading realm (even though it's a mystery) but I gave it a shot and couldn't believe how fast I plowed through it. Despite the longish chapters, which didn't feel long, the book was a really fast paced and kept me on my toes. I ultimately really enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading the next in the series.
Thank you Putnam Books and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

An interesting premise (a support group for assassins?) and a bit of a slow start, but once the story gets going it picks up pretty quickly and sets up for a sequel. The main character, Mark, started was a bit annoying at first since you're expecting a badass assassin and you get a bland boring average dude, but his interaction with his cat and his slow build-up to returning to badassery quickened the pace in the second half of the book. I'm looking forward to the second book of the series.

Assassins Anonymous
by Rob Hart
I love books like this - incredible genius and whip smart witting. Could not stop reading.

It is very hard to get somthing new in the thriller genre, that is why it is so exciting when you do. AA is spot on with it's pacing, humor and action. A great story and a very unique twist.. Loved this!

Is it wrong to say ASSASSINS ANONYMOUS was a fun read? I don’t think so. Hart delivers on the action and suspense just as much as he does on the struggles of becoming a better person from the past version of yourself.
What I enjoyed about this book was how Mark is a completely relatable killer. As odd as it may sound, it makes more sense when you realize the main characters in this thriller are assassins or recovering assassins. His struggles with putting his past life behind him and all he lost because of who he was are all things the reader can connect with. Then you add the fight scenes and layers of spy craft propelling this fast-paced narrative forward. Not to mention the full diverse cast of past and present killers adding to the intrigue.
ASSASSINS ANONYMOUS is a smart, witty, and down-right thrill ride. The twists, turns, and espionage filling these pages are positively entertaining. I loved it.
Audiobook Note: Listening in part to the audiobook, the narrator, Neill Thorne, brought to life the character of Mark. I loved the pace, diction, and the tone of his voice.

Thank you NetGalley for an advance copy! This was a fast-paced, action-filled book that I couldn’t help but dream of the movie I hope it becomes. It is the story of “Mark”, a former top assassin, who finds it harder and harder to live with his life’s work. When he meets Kenji, an associate, he finally decides to disappear and have a “normal” life, with the help of the group Assassins Anonymous - a group of former assassins who support each other in quitting the assassin game. Mark has successfully quit for a year when he is attacked, stabbed, and his “kill” notebook is stolen. The book then, is about what happens after that and how he tries to solve this mystery of the attack, without killing anyone. This is a well-written story and you really grow to care about Mark, and hate to see the story end. Luckily the author left it open-ended, so hopefully there will be a second book in this series.

3.5 stars
It took me a minute to get into the story, but I enjoyed it. Some plot twists I didn't catch onto which is a plus to be surprised. A good book overall.

this one moves at a really fast pace, which i appreciate. i don't think it's a terribly complicated book, very commercial with a voicey narrative voice, but it's fun.

A former assassin has changed his ways, and joined a twelve step program for reformed killers. After he is attacked, he goes on the run and tries to uncover who is responsible for the attack on him.
Assassins Anonymous is a unique thriller. Quirky characters and a fast-paced story. A mystery with a combination of humor and violence.
I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

A fun action thriller about Mark, who is in a 12 step program for former assassins. It’s been almost a year since he killed anyone, but his recovery is threatened when another assassin tries to kill him, and he embarks on a journey around the world trying to figure out what is going on, as we also see flashbacks to his prior life as an active assassin.
This was a fun and fast-moving read, one you can totally picture as a movie or tv series, and indeed it was optioned before it was even published. Mark was a good and interesting characters, and the other members of the group and supporting characters are good too. This is no cozy mystery, but there is a snarky humor that lightens things up. Apparently a sequel is coming out next year, and I’ll definitely read it!

Thank you to Netgalley and the Publishing Company for this Advanced Readers Copy of Asassins Anonymous by Rob Hart!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to be able to read and review this book!
I love hitman movies and books so i wanted to give it a a chance and it didn’t disappoint me one bit.

Solid, fun assassin romp that treats being a hired killer as similar to being an addict (there's even an assassins version of AA that features heavily here) and reckons with recovery and community. Was always a fun, quick read when I opened it. Definitely worth your time.

A thrilling and entertaining novel. The writing is sharp and witty with non stop action, and I had a hard time putting it down. The pace is fast and filled with adrenaline.
Many thanks to PENGUIN GROUP Putnam and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

When a retired assassin is targeted, he must figure out who is suddenly attacking him and how he can stay safe without ending his murder sobriety. While on the run, he's confronted with his past and the people he's harmed, all while trying to maintain his nonviolence. Overall, an interesting take on assassins that makes for an engaging read.

Rob Hart continues to impress with Assassins Anonymous, a story hat follows Mark, a notorious assassin known as the Pale Horse, as he attempts to leave his violent past behind. Just days away from receiving his one-year sobriety chip from a twelve-step program for killers, Mark’s old life catches up with him, thrusting him into a thrilling fight for survival.
Hart skillfully blends dark humor with moments of genuine heart. Mark’s relationship with his cat, P. Kitty, adds a touching element that humanizes him, making it easy to root for this unlikely hero. The plot is packed with twists that keep the suspense high, and the action scenes are both intense and engaging.
While the pacing is strong, some moments feel a bit predictable. Nevertheless, Hart delivers a compelling narrative about redemption and second chances that leaves readers eager for more. If you enjoy dark humor and action-packed stories about flawed characters, Assassins Anonymous is worth picking up.

A cleverly written funny recovery story. If you've ever wondered how hit men retire, this is the book for you!

"Assassins Anonymous" presents an intriguing premise: a group of assassins seeking redemption through a support group. The concept is compelling, especially for fans of dark humor and unconventional narratives. However, despite the potential for a gripping story, the execution fell flat for me.
I found myself struggling to stay engaged, even after multiple attempts to restart the book. The characters and plot didn't quite capture my interest, leading me to explore the audiobook format in hopes of a different experience. Unfortunately, it seems this book may not be the right fit for me.
While I appreciate the opportunity to read an advanced copy thanks to Netgalley and the publisher, I must admit that "Assassins Anonymous" didn't hold my attention as I had hoped. If you're drawn to unique concepts and character-driven stories, it might still be worth a try, but it ultimately left me wanting more.

Thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for the early read.
Rob Hart does it again!!! I highly recommend checking this one out!!

A story about a retired hitman unable to leave is past behind. This is a fast paced, action packed thriller with witty dialogue and plenty of suspense.
