Very campy horror that is a fast read but was not too memorable.

Olivia and Reagan, two girls trying to find out why their lives are connected to murders at Camp Lost Lake. Olivia because of DNA mysteries and Reagan because she's been on the run with her mom who has been thought to have committed the crimes.

Present day the camp is being opened under a new name but the terror is still being brought down upon that who are there to open it.

I figured out a lot of things before they were revealed but it was interesting to find out why the missed were occurring. But the end felt really out there to me, like it really could not have happened that way.

Three lives were ended at Camp Lost Lake in 2008 and frighteningly, the suspected killer, Lori Knight, was never caught. That same night, Olivia was born at Camp Lost Lake when her mother went into labor suddenly from the shock of what she had witnessed. Seventeen years later, the camp is being re-opened as a retreat by Olivia’s sister, Andie. Olivia plans to help Andie get the camp ready over the summer but on the day they are set to begin their work, Olivia gets the shocking news that the man she calls her father is not her biological father after all. Returning to the place that she was born, Olivia is determined to find answers about who her real father is.

Reagan is on the run with her beloved mom, Lori, the primary suspect of the Camp Lost Lake killings. When a true crime podcast about the Camp Lost Lake murders goes virial, Reagan begins to learn more about the case and decides that she must clear her mother’s name. Despite her mom’s wishes, Reagan heads to Camp Lost Lake to uncover who the real killer is. When new and crucial evidence is discovered, Olivia and Reagan realize they may have started a dangerous chain of events that they are powerless to stop. With the killer hiding in the woods armed with their signature bow and arrow, can anyone escape alive?

This was an entertaining and easy read. I was obsessed with Danielle Valentine’s “Delicate Condition” (so good!) and wanted to give this book a try despite the fact that I do not usually read YA. The story kept me interested throughout and while I had my suspicions of who the murderer was, I did not know for sure until shortly before the big reveal. The story is told in dual points-of-view and dual timelines which allows you a chance to get to know many of the characters on a deeper level. I really enjoyed each POV but did find myself getting a bit confused about who was who and especially, who was related to who. But I am absolutely terrible with names, so this is no fault of the author. I enjoyed that the author allowed for diversity in the love interests of the main characters. That made me so happy, and I think it is very important to have examples of all types of relationships in YA books. Really great ending! I had unanswered questions which were wrapped up in an interesting and unexpected way. I can’t wait to read what Danielle come up with next :)

This book hit the ground running, literally. I feel like the title truly doesn’t explain the book. It was dark, it kept me on the edge of my seat and had me guessing all the way until the end. It did leave on a slight cliff hanger but it was poetic. It is nothing like I have read before and it had you guessing who did it the whole time. Truly great! Thanks to NetGalley for letting me get a copy early!

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for providing me with this book in exchange for my review. All opinions are mine.

Unfortunately this book fell flat for me. I was hoping to enjoy it but unfortunately I couldn’t get into it. Maybe I will try another book by Danielle Valentine in the future.

Danielle Valentine writes some of the best YA thrillers I've read and that's no different with this book. I think both YA and adult readers will enjoy this one. I couldn't put it down!

open endings to standalones why

This book had such a great premise, the daughter of an alleged murderer teaming up with the girl born during said murders, but sadly it didn't live up to it. I found the dual POVs a tad confusing, Reagan and Olivia's voices were nearly non-distinguishable to me. The callback chapters to the timeframe of the murders was a refreshing touch however. The book just felt younger YA to me, it definitely is meant for a younger crowd who will appreciate it better.

Thank you to Netgalley and Penguin Books for the e-arc!

Solid thriller that will keep the reader interested the whole way through the book. I liked the main characters and how well the were written.

This one was just okay for me. There were a lot of things that felt really just not believable to me. How quickly Officer Knight figured out that Reagan was back in town, for one.
While there were definitely some elements of suspense and some good 'twists', this one was just overall predictable and clunky to me. By the last few chapters, I found myself skimming just to get to the reveals and be done.
The romance subplots felt forced and kind of detracted from the intended intensity of some of the more suspenseful parts.

Okay this book was insane! I finished it in less than a day and I’m still reeling about every revelation.

The book follows two main characters, Olivia and Regan, who both decide to look into the murders that occurred the year they were born—and end up discovering a whole well of family secrets. It’s such a page turner and it had me guessing wrong again and again. Especially with that last page!

I’m very picky about murder mysteries because I tend to guess them pretty easily, but this one did such a good job at misleading me.

If you liked The Reappearance of Rachel Price, Truly Devious, or Little White Lies you are going to love this book!

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for allowing me the pleasure of reading this novel. YA murder mystery with a summer camp setting, sign me up. This was so atmospheric and thrilling. The plot always kept me guessing and I was completely blown away by the reveals. It felt like I was watching a campy horror movie like Friday the 13th, and I had a blast. Thanks again and I highly recommend to fans of campy horror and YA mystery.

Danielle Valentine does it again with a can't put it down, what is happening, twisty novel! I am a huge fan of the authors other books. So I was more than happy to receive an ARC for Two Sides of Every Murder. My mind is still blown 24 hours later!

A famous murder case at the site of a local summer camp that happened seventeen years ago has two teenager girls stuck in the middle of it. You ask how? Let me tell you! Olivia was born at the camp on the night of the horrible multi murders. Her life is every teenage girl’s dream, two loving parents, and a great best friend. But that all changes when she finds out her dad is not her biological father. Now, Olivia is hoping to find the answers she needs and it all leads back to Camp Lost Lake. Will she find out the truth of who her father really is? Does she even really know her mom?

Meanwhile, Reagan has not been living the ideal teenage life and is on the run with her mom. Her mom is the main suspect for the multiple murders that happened at Camp Lost Lake. She knows her mom could never commit a crime like that. Now she is determined to clear her mom’s name and find the real killer from that night. Will she be able to find the truth in time? Or will she become another victim to Camp Lost Lake?

What I enjoyed:
- we start off with a bang on this one! YA thrillers can be a hit or miss. This one was absolutely a hit for me!
- The pacing was excellent! I could not put this one down. I finished it in less than 24 hours
- Our two MCs were great! I loved their different personalities and approaches to solving the truth. But I thought they were both fantastic possible final girl material!
- Loved the creepy/murdery summer camp settings! This is a great read for the summer for sure!
- Multiple POVs and timelines
- Alllll the twists!!!

Overall, LOVED this one! This was such a fun and quick read. The author never ceases to keep me on my toes. This was a fun and fast paced read that is perfect for any thriller fan. 4 stars out of 5! Thank you Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

This book was such a fun and fast paced thriller. I was hooked from the very start and and the two POVs really helped the book keep my interest. Some of the twists were a bit predictable. However, that did not take away from the enjoyment of the book and there were still twists that I was not expecting. Overall, I would recommend this book for anyone wanting to read a fun thriller! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The beginning of this book really hooked me and I was sure I was in for a wild ride. And I was right! The fast changing POVs were a bit difficult to get used to at first but eventually I understood the flow. As a newbie to thrillers, the twists were so heart-pounding to read. I loved it.

Thank you so much Penguin Teen for my eARC!

I was so confused by the plot. The story was so great but terrible execution. The book could have been 10 chapters shorter than it was. I waitied the whole book to get 6 plot reveals in one story. I love a good mystery, thriller, who done it story, but this was difficult to read.

I enjoyed the author’s previous book How To Survive Your Murder that I came back for more. Some parts of this one were a little predictable, but all in all it was a great read.

From the author of How to Survive Your Murder comes a propulsive thriller about two teens who return to the site of the famous murder case that sealed their fates.

I am a sucker for a mystery set at a summer camp and this book met all my expectations. It's very well written with great characters and surprising plot twists! Highly recommended!

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
After reading the description I had high hopes for this book and was disappointed by it. I expected more. The ideas seemed good but was executed poorly.
I like a good mystery thriller but this one was overall very predictable. Most of the “twists” I saw coming a mile away.
I did like the dual POV; it was a good way to see both Reagan and Olivia’s perspectives. I was a little confused by some of the rapid changes between each POV at the beginning, but once I got into it, that was no longer an issue. The characters overall felt flat, with no development. The love triangle was unnecessary and honestly very cringey. The flirting over oatmeal was weird. It felt like the author was trying to include it to get the “inclusive points”. A lot of the teenage monologue felt clunky and unrealistic as well. A lot of the inner monologue also made me cringe as well.
The second half was intriguing and a little suspenseful and I can see how it might appeal to some YA readers
I thank NetGalley for the ARC.

Two Sides To Every Murder is a fun and addictive YA Thriller. The story is fast paced and quick to read. I really liked the writing style and the survive the night element. I was hooked from the first page and really enjoyed the slasher at a summer camp vibes and the twists. I figured out a couple of the big plot twists, but still had a lot of fun reading this book. And ugh that last page… what an ending!

I’m calling this dual pov with flashbacks because the story is mostly told in Olivia and Reagan’s pov. Occasionally we see other characters pov, mainly during the flashbacks to the day before/night of the original Camp Lake murders.

I really liked both Olivia and Reagan as characters and the way their stories intertwined throughout the book. I also enjoyed the development they both went through in their internal character arcs.

Overall this was an enjoyable and gripping thriller. It’ll make for the perfect summer read.

Danielle Valentine always does a great job, writing a good thriller novel. It always has a great concept that I really haven't heard before and is so intricately done that I enjoy every part of the book. The fact that 1 of the characters was born in a murder site was fascinating and we didn't know who the biological father was. It was a great mystery to it and had the thriller suspenseful feel that I was hoping for. It had me guessing until the end and was really well written.
