„Portal to Eveirea“ by C.M. Matthew’s is a new LitRPG following the thief Max tasked with stealing black diamonds from a research facility which results in him being accidentally teleported to a different world.

I liked the introduction to the story and the setting. The description of a heist in the pouring rain under a solar flare induced aurora borealis was really atmospheric.

The leveling elements of the litRPG were introduced early on with an action sequence that was entertaining and suspenseful. I also liked the way the characters first quest started and the side characters we met so far.

The audiobook narration by Eric Fox was flawless and I liked listening to them.

Sadly despite all of the parts I liked I had to DNF the book around 30 % because it featured one of my pet peeves in books on more than one occasion and I just couldn’t read on. I’m talking about the overly sexual depiction of women the protagonist meets for the first time. It made him in my eyes really unlikeable in an uninteresting way and it became one of his only character qualities up to that point. I often read this on older books in the genre but I find it especially jarring if the protagonist is an adult that is surrounded by women in his every day life.
Due to the DNF I will not give a star rating.

If you don’t have the same pet peeve as me I would encourage you to give it a try since it had many interesting elements.

A big thanks to NetGalley and the publisher Dreamscape Media for giving me the opportunity to read an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was my first LitRPG book and it was kind of a fun read! Fantasy isn't my normal jam but I liked this one and want to know what happens next! I love that Max is growing into being a better human and listening to his conscience instead of doing what's easy. But he is still kinda dumb! This was my 1st book by C.M. Matthews but will not be my last!
