Berry Springs is a small Ozark town and usually very peaceful. However, all that changes with a sudden spate of unexplained deaths. Sally Witherspoon owns a club called “Sally’s Smasher.” Sally envisions herself as a detective who can augment the local overworked police department.

When someone close to her and associated with Sally’s Smasher is suddenly and brutally killed, she feels that she is the one to assist the local law enforcement professionals.

The local police department considers Sally’s investigation of the crime meddling. The victims begin to mount up though and they are all people associated with her establishment.

Meddling in police work and crime investigation can be very dangerous as Sally soon finds out. Can she solve the mystery or will she become the next victim? Read and enjoy this thriller. 4.5 stars – CE Williams

I thought I had sent this to my kindle, but with a new phone my kindle address changed and I missed the deadline to send this thru to the correct address. Bummer as I live in the Ozarks, was looking forward to this.

Really struggled with this one there were a lot of murders for one small town which was a bit unbelievable and it just felt flat the character's didn't grab my interest and I just found it hard work to slog through it, This is a new author to me and I don't think I'll bother with any other books sorry. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine

I'm not sure how anyone could turn back a book when the main character is a cross between Agatha Christie and a Cheers bartender! I know I couldn't. It's even better when Sally Witherspoon is exactly as described. Erik Meyers has given readers an absolutely wonderful character and set her in a town, in a bar, where she can see everything that goes on in town. Her determination to find out who killed her friend should have had the killer running for the hills....the Ozarks have many. The story line is as original as the characters. A great new to me author with a character that I'll be recommending to my reading circle.

I received this book from the author as an ARC reader to give my feedback. I can't express enough how much i enjoyed this book, it is super well written with tons of suspense and plot twists. There were a few times when it was slightly predicable but not enough to make the book bad. I will 100% read more future books from the author! I would love to see this turn into a series with Sally Witherspoon!

Death in the Ozarks is a murder mystery set in a small town in the Ozarks. The lead character is Sally Witherspoon, who co-owns and manages Sally's Smasher, a popular biker bar in the town. Sally considers herself an amateur sleuth, focusing on helping friends and townsfolk with minor domestic mysteries. However one night as she is closing up, Sally is shocked to find her business partner and good friend, Bill Arnold, dead behind Sally's Smasher. Determined to find her friend's killer, Sally inserts herself into the police investigation as the tension and the body count rises.

Death in the Ozarks contains colourful characters in a colourful small town. As a bar owner and manager, Sally occupies a unique position in the town, with the opportunity to observe the townspeople, sometimes becoming aware of their secrets. The author does a good job of setting the stage and introducing the cast of characters. There is plenty of action and a steady pace. However, it didn't feel believable that a civilian would have access to a police investigation and be immersed in it, as Sally was. I appreciate what the author was going for - an amateur detective helping the police, in the style of Agatha Christie - but that often is quite unrealistic even in Dame Agatha's novels. Things also begin to unravel a bit in the final chapters when we jump from quite an action-packed scene at the end of one chapter, to a gathering in the bar at the beginning of the next one, where all the events are basically explained to the reader in a denouement that feels rather flat.

A reader who enjoys the small town setting and a bit of amateur sleuthing might enjoy this one. Thanks to Level Best for the copy to read.

Death in the Ozarks by Erik Meyers is a really fun, murder mystery to solve. The MC, Sally Witherspoon was an accountant but now owns a biker bar with her best friend Bill. When her best friend turns up dead behind the bar, she turns into an amateur sleuth to solve his murder.
I really enjoyed the writing, the characters and a I appreciated the pace, there was no lagging or dragging at any point. I had a suspicion of who the killer was but I was wrong, so that was a pleasant surprise too, will definitely read this author’s work again. I recommend if you’re looking for clean content and a good plot.

This was a fun book to read, with a likeable main character who can’t keep her nose out of other people’s business. Very relatable. When Sally Witherspoon discovers her best friend and business partner’s body in the dumpster behind their bar, she makes it her mission to find out who killed him and why. A busybody who cares about the people in her small town, Sally has a lot of grit and doesn’t let anything stand in the way of getting to the truth, even if it puts her life in danger.

The atmosphere of a small community in the Ozarks, set against the mountains and wilderness, lends itself well to the tight-knit group of residents who frequent Sally’s Smasher, the bar that lives up to its name when drinks flow and fists fly on a Saturday night. A cross between a cozy and traditional mystery, Death in the Ozarks deviates from the quaint towns often featured in cozies, with its biker bar and rough clientele mixed amongst respected citizens.

Plenty of action keeps the plot moving as Sally, much to the disapproval of Detective Finnegan, insinuates herself into the investigation. Several unexpected revelations and turns of events lead to chapter cliffhangers. Readers will love piecing together the clues that lead to the murderer and their motive.

Author Erik Meyers has written a fast-paced story that will entertain mystery fans. With a satisfying conclusion, the book will leave you wondering what’s next for Berry Springs’ bar owner and amateur detective.

This is a readable book, but the entertainment value is very low due to the stilted writing and the naive story. And there's a whole lot of nonsense included.

This book has about as many murders as can be packed into a fairly short download. It is not a
new tactic- many murders taking place in a very isolated small town with a business owner who
plays amateur sleuth, out shines the Police, and is nearly killed. It is, however, quite entertaining
and a nice break from lengthy, complicated books. In this story, secrets that have been successfully
guarded for a generation are going to come to light, with unexpected consequences to a lot of the
innocent townspeople. I was happy that while I had some ideas, I was held off until nearly the end,
and was in for some surprises! So, I hesitate to describe the sequence of events other than to say
that even with the multiple murders everywhere, and because it’s fiction, the owner of the bar will
not only assist in the investigations, but will solve the whole mess, and it’s quite entertaining. It’s not
quite what I would call a ‘cozy.’ But it’s a decent book- I think 3+ is fair.
My thanks to Level Best Books, via NetGalley, for providing a download copy of this book for
review purposes.
