Any book by Roger McGough is worth having and by introducing your children to his work, you’ll be rewarded with smiles and happy kids.

Beautifully illustrated with bright and colour-rich drawings which convey fun and humour. But it is the rhyming text by this wordsmith of an author that marks this book out as being special.

Lovingly based upon the biblical account from Genesis McGough transforms a familiar story into a delightful and entertaining account of God’s interaction with his creation. It is original and thoughtful in transforming a repeated tale into something inspiringly new. By focusing on the animals, wit and wordplay cast a new slant on this important story.

Some traditional Christians may feel it is step too far.

However, I believe this approach to biblical accounts makes them more accessible and in time a more serious study can follow.
What is wrong with wondering how they passed their time on the ark?
Early pork jokes can be excused and I defy anyone not to chuckle at the thought of hopscotch or jenga as deck games on this cruise.

Sorry there wasn’t a rainbow mentioned in the writing, but if you take in the artwork, you will be rewarded on the cover and even double delight near the end of the book.
This perhaps points to the real craft of children’s books, where in the best examples, the words and pictures flow perfectly into creating the story.

This was such fun to read with my niece. The story bounces along with really engaging text, great use of questions, bold text and asides. After all, who wouldn’t want to know that Noah was frightened of spiders. Some great plays on words that will make children chuckle - Noah is speaks sternly whilst in the stern for example.
The ending is somewhat tongue in cheek, I’m not sure God every praised Noah quite so colloquially nor called him ‘sunshine’. Children will giggle.
