I got to listen to the audiobook, Battle for the North by Roman Prokofiev (Pro-Ko-Fee-Ev). This is the fourth novel in the Rogue Merchant series and is my first litRPG book. I’d heard of the genre before and maybe jumping head first into the fourth book in a series wasn’t the best place to start, but Roman does a fantastic job of quickly making sure you know everything you need to as you follow the main character Cat in his struggle to play all sides, including the developers, in a massive guild war in the massive multiplayer online game Sphere of Worlds. The format for how dialogue was done took me a second to adjust to but once I did, I found the book enjoyable, especially as someone who has played many MMOs myself. The book also has a bit of some real-world drama going on with the developers struggling to keep the game’s AI under control and how the players interact with the game when in the real-world. I will definitely have to check out the first three books as when the fifth book comes out, I want to be able to have the full context and would definitely suggest anybody else watching my review starts with the first book unlike me, especially if like me this is your first litRPG book. If you’re already a fan of the Rogue Merchant or litRPG books I have a feeling you’ll love Battle for the North from Roman Prokofiev which is out now.
