This was my first book from Seraphina Nova Glass and will absolutely not be my last - told in alternating POVs with suspense keeping me on edge, I devoured this book and can't wait to pick up books from her backlist.

Thank you NetGalley for a free e-galley of this book in exchange for an honest review.

"The Vacancy in Room 10" by Seraphina Nova Glass is a gripping thriller that intricately weaves suspense, mystery, and the complexities of human relationships. Set in a run-down motel-turned-apartment complex called the Sycamores, the novel follows two women, Anna and Cass, as their lives intertwine in a dangerous web of secrets, blackmail, and a quest for the truth.

Anna's story begins with a shocking call from her husband, confessing to a murder, followed by his mysterious death. Her journey to uncover the truth about her husband's activities and demise takes her to the Sycamores, where she immerses herself in the lives of the tenants, hoping to find answers. Glass skillfully portrays Anna's transformation from a grieving widow to a determined seeker of truth, capturing her desperation and resilience in the face of escalating danger.

Cass, the superintendent of the Sycamores, is a character with her own set of complexities. Her descent into blackmail as a means of survival is depicted with a raw honesty that underscores the moral ambiguities of her choices. As Anna delves deeper into the motel's secrets, Cass's world of precarious schemes begins to unravel, heightening the suspense and urgency of the narrative.

The strength of this novel lies in its rich character development and the atmospheric setting. The Sycamores, with its assortment of residents and its air of decay, serves as a perfect backdrop for this dark tale. Glass's writing is immersive, drawing readers into the shadowy world of the motel and the intertwined lives of its inhabitants.

However, the novel's intricate plot and multiple narrative threads might be challenging for some readers to follow. The pacing, while generally well-maintained, occasionally falters under the weight of the complex storyline. Additionally, the themes of blackmail and moral compromise may not appeal to all readers.

Content warnings for themes of death, blackmail, and moral ambiguity are appropriate. This novel will resonate with readers who enjoy psychological thrillers and mysteries that explore the darker aspects of human nature and the lengths people will go to protect their secrets.

In conclusion, "The Vacancy in Room 10" is a compelling and suspenseful thriller that offers a deep dive into a world where truth is elusive, and survival often requires crossing moral lines. Seraphina Nova Glass has crafted a story that is both thrilling and thought-provoking, making it a must-read for fans of the genre.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a chance to review The Vacancy in Room 10. This ARC is in it's early stages, with lots of room for editing, and this is a totally normal part of the process but I will acknowledge, made reading it a bit of a challenge at times. However, I won't be docking any points for this, as it's to be expected.

The setting of Sycamores was great - even though it's supposed to be a run down motel turned apartment, it felt homey and inviting, in a bit of a quirky way. I actually liked the concept of everyone hanging out by the pool, communal barbecues, friends as family, no privacy - it just felt nice. I won't lie - I didn't really like either of the main characters (Cass or Anna) - they were pretty annoying, made lots of bizarre assumptions, and overall just did everything wrong. But, the other supporting characters, they were so quirky and interesting and lovely. That helped the story, for sure.

The mystery itself was layered, with a few different moving parts. The solve to the first mystery (what happened to Anna's husband?) was fairly plausible, and the solve to the second problem (what the heck are Cass and Callum gonna do about their problem?) was a bit more far fetched. The author then ties these two issues together in a neat little bow of convenience for the characters, but for me personally, it fell just a little flat.

Overall, this was a quick read with enough characters and plot points to keep you interested. I am curious to see how this ARC might evolve with some feedback, and for any one who likes a somewhat simple, fast mystery/thriller, then the final copy would be a good read for you.

I loved this book! It was a unique kind of thriller that had a lot of fun characters. I liked the two narrators and found them to be funny and witty. The twist was not predictable and made for an exciting last few chapters.

The tenants were the most interesting part of this book and at times I almost forgot about the whole mystery/what happened to my husband aspect of it. That played out decently enough, though for some reason while I liked this book it just wasn't that spectacular to me.

Kindly received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Wow! Just wowza! Let me say it one more time—wowza! This book has not only secured its place as my favorite Seraphina Nova Glass thriller, but it has also claimed the title of the best thriller I've read in the last six months.

The characterization is an absolute delight! It's not just the leading characters, Cass and Anna, who are true tough survivors, but the entire pool deck gang—Jackie, Crystal, Rose, and their witty banter. Barry, the samurai sword expert, and the little handyman Frank have stolen my heart. Team Sycamore might just overshadow the main characters!

The gripping intercepted mysteries, including a husband's suspicious death and the accidental demise of another eccentric tenant, pull you into the premise. You'll find yourself turning the pages faster, biting your nails, and clutching onto anything soft nearby, including your husband's left arm (at least that's what I did).

The revelations are sucker punches that keep surprising you, and most of the twists are unexpected! The feminist vibes, coupled with strong, flawed characters you can easily resonate with, keep you alert and excited with each chapter until you reach the climax and start screaming.

Now, let's dive into the main synopsis:

Cass reluctantly manages the Sycamores, an apartment complex that could easily be mistaken for a dumpster and hasn't seen better days for centuries. Trapped in this place after her rich realtor boyfriend Reed kicks her out for a younger and trashier version, Cass lacks money, a diploma, and experience. She turns into a handyman, fixing things for the inhabitants. But one day, her encounter with a married man sparks an idea—she can punish these men for what they do to their wives, seeking retribution for what her boyfriend did to her. This side job of blackmailing can help her pay the bills, but what if she chooses the wrong man, one who could ruin her entire life?

Enter Anna, whose husband's haunting last words before his suicide were, "I killed someone!" Suspicious and determined to unravel the mystery, Anna realizes she didn't know much about her longtime husband, who rented a studio at Sycamore for his painting. As she investigates, she becomes adamant that her husband's death was not a suicide and starts questioning Cass, who might be inadvertently involved with more dangerous people than she can handle.

This is the kind of thriller that deserves adoration, prompting you to scream at the top of your lungs from rooftops, "I loved this book!" Of course, I'm giving it my highly recommended five stars!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing / Graydon House for sharing this incredible book's digital reviewer copy with me in exchange for my honest thoughts.

Told from alternating perspectives: Anna, whose husband committed suicide (or did he?), and Cass, who is dealing with a breakup by taking a job as a manager for a rundown apartment/hotel, The Vacancy in Room 10 is a story with many twists and turns. The characters are unique and plentiful which creates another layer of intrigue in this book.

The length of this book turned out to be a bit off-putting as there were maybe too many events in the story, but the character development was wonderful.

What a page turner! This book was chaotic in the best way. There were so many different things happening and it worked sooo well. I loved the characters. Some of them were hilarious and at the same time, I didn’t know who to trust. This was my first book by this author and it certainly will not be my last!

Another GREAT read from Seraphina Nova Glass! She has easily become one of my favorite authors of 2023. This book is perfectly twisty and the feminist in me loves the women empowerment that it portrays. It is fun reading a book where you can root for so many of the characters. This is a definite must read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for an ARC of this novel.

Thank you SO much to Thriller Book Lovers Promotions for letting me be a part of the first exclusive book tour for The Vacancy in Room 10.

Anna is trying to figure out what exactly happened to her dead husband. Before his body was found he called her to confess to murdering someone and that just does not add up with the man she thought she knew. To better understand she moves into his art studio - a room in a rundown motel-turned-apartment complex - and from there only becomes more confused about her husband’s secrets when anonymous threats start turning up for her.  Wary but curious about the tenants of the Sycamores, she starts to tentatively reach out for help finding the answers she’s seeking and with that comes a variety of new questions, concerns, and even some answers that she may have wished she’d never gotten.

Also receiving threats is Cass, who manages the Sycamores. After running her game on the wrong guy her life take a turn for the perilous. Trying to keep her own secrets while Anna is trying to find answers turns into a deadly game leaving everyone wondering who can they actually trust and who is hiding what?

Finding a thriller that shocks me is not hard - I am very easily shocked, I almost never see twists coming, and I like it that way. I’m not a jaded thriller reader. I like very simple formulas with very simple outcomes that I am still blind to even after all these years of reading thrillers. What is hard is finding a thriller (any book, really) that moves me to tears. Sad tears, happy tears, whatever tears…just doesn’t really happen to me often. Especially not in thrillers. But this is officially the second thriller that I have cried over and it was without a doubt a 5 star read.

Every single character in this book is dynamic. There isn’t a single throwaway that did not bring something to this story. And there were a lot of characters. It was easy to keep them straight, easy to fall in love with all of them (even if that ended up not being the most wise choice), and easy to root for them to come out on top. I left this story thinking wow if my life takes a bad turn and I wind up living in a run down motel maybe it wouldn’t be so bad. That is how well Seraphina wrote these people. Not one of them is anywhere close to perfect. They all have flaws, they’re keeping big secrets, they have some heavy dependencies, they are down on their luck, and they are just freaking endearing and amazing.

Amazing characters aside, the story was also fantastic. It’s hard to say whether it’s more story or character-driven because they were equal parts great. There were a couple of plots intertwining while maintaining the same level of importance and each carried their own weight. Again, nothing was a throwaway storyline, it was all worthwhile and added to my overall experience.

Other than my basic synopsis I really don’t want to go into any details, I want everyone to go into this as blindly as I did and love it as much as I did.

Two broken women find friendship, home, and answers to very dangerous questions amongst an unlikely group of misfits at a run-down motel.

This was not my first Seraphina Nova Glass book, I read and enjoyed an early copy of The Vanishing Hour as well earlier this year. This was a solid 4 star read for me! Creative plot with twists I didn’t see coming and it kept my attention the entire time. I also really enjoyed the alternating POVs, which this author does often it seems.

Thank you so much to Thriller Book Lovers Promotions, Graydon House, the author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an e-ARC!

Thank you to Harlequin Trade Publishing, Graydon House and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced readers' copy of this delicious, fun, totally addicting book that I devoured in less than 48 hours.
Reading this book that largely takes place at the Sycamore apartments made me almost weirdly nostalgic for my past days of apartment living and all the different walks of life that reside there. Someone always knows all the coming and goings of everyone, someone is always a little sketchy, someone is always offering you a plate of food or a drink, and someone is always playing their music too loud - but yet, you weirdly become this odd little family who look out for each other.
Seraphina Nova Glass could teach a master class on how to make characters come alive for a reader. I quickly became invested in the lives of Anna, Cass, Rosa, Frank and the entire cast of characters in the book. This book had several twists and turns and cliff-hangers that kept me wanting to read more and more and more! Loved it! <3

This was the best book that I've read in quite a long time. The characters were relatable, and you can't help but to really root for Anna and Cass, both. I've actually lived in a long term hotel rental, and saw something familiar in literally all of the background characters. I didn't see ending coming at all... I honestly just really, truly enjoyed this book, and I don't think I can say enough about this book, so suffice it to say that I know for a fact that this one is one I will definitely be recommending, one I'll most likely reread, and one I will have no problem selling. I'll look for future books by the author, as well.

Wow what an amazing read. I was hooked from page one and couldn’t put it down. I really found myself loving both the characters and relating to them the more I got into it. I really enjoyed the twists and the shocking ending!! Easily a five star read!! Now I can’t wait to read more of her books.

Thanks to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for this amazing early release.

Are you looking for a five star thriller to close out your 2023? Or maybe a great start to your 2024? Here you go!🤩

Told from two perspectives:
Cass: The superintendent for a dilapidated apartment complex known as the Sycamores. She’s scraping by but has a wild hair to try something less than savory to make a few extra bucks! It’s all well and good…until everything goes sideways.

Anna: Recently widowed, has moved into the Sycamores. She’s still seeking answers as to what happened to her husband.

And that’s all you’ll pry from me regarding the premise. You know what I’m going to say next…Go in blind!

Do you like neighborhood thrillers? How about we squish all that neighborhood drama into one small apartment building. Where literally everyone knows your business. No secrets here! Ok, maybe a few but I have a feeling they won’t stay that way for long!

I adored all the characters in this complex. From the older gals with their martinis to the young moms with toddlers running wild, always throwing food into the pool.
But Frank stole the show for me. Such a sweet, kind young soul. I just wanted to give him the biggest hug! 🤗

This read had my un-divided attention! Desperately waiting to see how it was going to play out when all the pieces would fall in place for an explosive ending!
And I wasn’t disappointed!

Seraphina Nova Glass is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors! I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next!

This was a fun and fast paced book. It’s told from the perspective of two women, Cass and Ana. They have an intersecting story but it’s not till the very end that you find out how. Lots of red herrings in this book and it only added to the intrigue. Thank you to Net Galley for allowing me to read and review this book.
