I love Tessa Bailey so I was excited to read this novella. It was amazing - a fun, sweet (and oh so spicy) hockey romance. A fun romcom - a must read for Tessa Bailey fans!

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!

As a European who's not into hockey, I just know that's not how green cards nor professional hockey work... I just don't understand why one would choose this specific premise for their novel but then not bother to do basic research 😭
The mmc was... okay, I was just bothered by the amount of time he kept repeating the word "wife" and uncomfortable as he kept sexualising the fmc when he thought she wasn't into him. The fmc was not very interesting to me (I wish both main characters' personalities were more developed tbh) and the sex scenes were pretty cringy to me.

This was a sweet story. It hit all the expectations for the trope: emotional struggle, steamy romance, and HEA. In addition, it offered likable characters you cared about.

It was nice to read a beautiful tale of a man who believes in family. It was refreshing to see the dynamic of Sumner proving what a real partner was instead of the alpha male or damsel plot. The support our leading man offers Britta wins the reader over with its sincerity and respect.

It's an old story retold in a sporty way, but it's charming. I enjoyed reading this book and recommend it. It's a feel-good romance that leaves you with a sense of hope.

4.5 stars!! I really liked this!! The cover drew me in from the start! Britta’s growth throughout the story was a lot of fun to watch, and by the following year, she was like a new woman! I was rooting for her and Sumner the entire time, the fake dating/marriage trope is one of my favorites! I dropped half a star because I wish some of the spice scenes were from Britta’s POV, but they were still really good. Thank you to Netgalley and Amazon Original Stories for the digital arc in exchange for my honest review!

This was a fun little read. Perfect for new years eve or day that can be read in one sitting. Has some spice, the characters were both just ok. The plot was quick but could be cringy at times. It was just a ok read and a fun time while reading.

This was a fun and fast New Year holiday read. Because of its novella length, it didn’t have the same character and relationship development that Bailey’s books usually have, but it still worked.

This was a quick spicy novella. It was a fun and easy read. It had some big time jumps, where I wish more was explained as some of the details felt improbable and underdeveloped. I enjoyed the sports romance aspect of this story. Overall this was a quick read perfect to read around New Years.

A pretty quick New Years Eve read. This is actually my first Tessa Bailey book, and it was a pretty good start for me before going into her back catalog. It's a He Falls First, hockey romance perfect for the new year feels. Add in the spice, and it is a great read.

I'm not on the hockey romance train, but after reading a few of them this year, I might be getting on board! This was a fun, quick Tessa Bailey special. Worth picking up for anyone who wants a fun, steamy, easy read!

This was a sweet, short, sexy read! I loved the vibe of the new years eve feeling and connected with the characters right away as the book takes off almost immediately. Hockey, fake marriage, spice, instalove, It was all great!

Read this pretty fast since it’s a novella. Such a cute story. I’m not big on spice but in this one it didn’t take away from the story or feel like it didn’t belong.

Read if you like:

🌶️ Spice

This book is the definition of MMC obsessed with the FMC and being ready to commit and give her everything while she is a huge commitment phobe that can’t help but be attracted to the hunk that only has eyes for her.

Sumner gives major “touch her and die” energy while also being sweet and gooey with how much he is obsessed with everything about Britta.

Britta has major commitment phobic tendencies that Sumner is forced to slowly break down over a year of their marriage of convenience so that he can stay and play hockey for his shot of going pro and she definitely resists at every turn, until she just can’t anymore because she wants her husband probably just as much as he wants her in reality.

It gets a bit spicy once Britta decides to give into the temptation of her husband and then of course some up and downs persist with her commitment phobia.

All in all, this was a fun novella to read to say goodbye to 2023 and hello to 2024!

Thanks so much to the publisher, Amazon Stories, for my ARC in exchange for my review!

A quick read that takes place between two New Year's Eves. Britta is a bartender, and Sumner is on her half brother's hockey team. He's always had a thing for her and considers her his dream girl. The teammates conjure up the idea of a fake marriage to get his green card so he has enough time to get scouted and put on a professional team.
The hockey stuff seemed a bit Improbable, given that he's 27. And I know it needed to be short as a novella, but the multiple months time jumps made me wish there'd been a bit more to the story.
Overall it was a good, quick, spicy read. I was hoping for some more holiday stuff, too.

It was okay. Not my favourite Tessa Bailey but easy to read since it is a novella. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher.

Thanks to NetGalley and Amazon Original Series for the chance to read this novella.

This is a short story that is very steamy (and a little smutty) at times, but the relationship side if it is actually quite sweet and I definitely would have been happy to read a full length novel about this couple. It's a sport based romance, and as an Aussie who has no knowledge of ice hockey, I didn't have an issue with the terminology or storyline not being accurate to what occurs IRL (I have seen a lot of reviews that take issue with these discrepancies).

Pretty good for a novella! The ending was a little more sentimental than I prefer but overall a fun read!

I struggled to finish Same Time Next Year by Tessa Bailey, and I only got through it because it was a novella. I found the writing to be subpar with undeveloped characters, and the romantic interactions between them cringe-worthy. Overall, a disappointing reading experience.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- {SAME TIME NEXT YEAR - Tessa

Shes dubbed “the Michelangelo of dirty talk” for a reason! This novella from Tessa Bailey was dir-tay! If you want something quick and spicy here it is! 🔥

Britta’s a 26 year old bartender at the local hole in the wall “Sluggers”. After a painful childhood where her father abandoned her and her mother, she is anti-relationship and most definitely anti-marriage. When her half brother comes begging her to marry his hocky teammate Sumner so he can stay in the United States to make it pro her immediate answer is a big “hell no”! But when he offers $50,000 to do it she realizes her dream of becoming a part owner of Sluggers could become a reality. Britta accepts with the terms that this is a business arrangement only, not a physical or emotional relationship, and at the end of a year they will part ways. But Sumner is no ordinary man and his feelings for Britta run deeper than she ever imagined and before you know it hes burrowing his way into heart (and other places in between)! 😜

I could see this easily being expanded into a full novel but Tessa was able to accomplish alot in 144 pages. Some parts were a little cheesy, I didnt love how the MC Sumner kept calling Britta “wife”. It felt slightly misogynistic but I think it was supposed to read controlling in a sexy way 🧐…either way I was committed, felt like it was well developed and I was impressed again by how strong of a story she conveyed in such a short span of time! Wouldn’t spend money on a physical copy because it was so short but I am sure anyone into spicy novellas will gobble this one up!
