thanks to netgalley and the publisher for giving me an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

this is one of my first Kimberly books along with I only read thrillers every now and then (lol I am such a mood reader and naturally gravitate to other genres), but this one caught my eye along with seeing fellow other readers check this book out.

I believe it be a classic mystery tale, nothing sparked my attention any more nor did my attention quite falter. I felt the story was overpacked with laters that could sometimes shadow the main plot. there was definitely just a lot going on.

It is an interesting read I will say, can just feel overwhelming between all the different turns and twists that are taken plus to mention the layers. However, I was not fond of the ending and that may be another reason for my lack of love to give it 5 stars also.

Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this eARC. All opinions are my own.

This was an enjoyable reading experience. Kimberly McCreight never fails to deliver.

This book was pretty generic. It felt like a random Law & Order episode with lots of red herrings and no real aha moment. It had that “dude book” vibe: fast-paced, low on emotional depth.

Cleo, the daughter, sucked. She constantly whined about everything her mom did like it was a personal attack. That kind of complaining gets old fast. Also, why can’t characters just follow basic police protocol? Tainting evidence and ignoring proper procedure made no sense and pulled me out of the story.

The mom’s secret relationship plot didn’t hold up either. The guy she wasn’t seeing wasn’t even a client when they were together. A totally separate arm of that corporation was, yes, but not him. It felt like the author didn’t understand how corporate structures actually work.

What REALLY got me revved up, though, were the Manhattan inaccuracies. As an NYU alum, I know Bobst Library intimately. The author wrote about approaching it from 6th Avenue (that’s four blocks away from the BACK of the building), characters studying in view of the main door (the main floor has no study space; there is more than one main door), characters bursting through doors (how do you burst open a revolving door?) and walking down the main steps (there are no steps), and flashing an ID to security (you scan it and turnstiles don’t open until you do). None of it checks out.

Even the details about Washington Heights were off. Brownstones like Park Slope? Doormen? Larger sidewalks? Girl where even are you??? That’s just not accurate.

Overall, this was a forgettable read made memorable only because of shitty research. If you’re setting a book in New York, at least walk around the neighborhoods you’re writing about. You live in Brooklyn, Kimberly, take a subway ride.

McCreight is becoming one of those authors whose books I pick up even without reading the blurb.

In this one, Cleo goes to her mom's for dinner and discovers that her mom, Kat, is missing. In her quest to discover what happened, she starts accidentally uncovering secrets, both past and present, that change the dynamic of her family and leave her unsure of who she can trust.

I love dual timeline stories and family secrets, and this one had both of those. The reader follows along with Cleo as she searches for her mom and pieces together evidence, and the other chapters include Kat's experiences leading up to the day of her disappearance. Each timeline meets up and culminates in a twisty climax. I did start to suspect the ending before it came, but I still really enjoyed the reading experience. Definitely recommend this one for thriller readers!

Like Mother, Like Daughter was a powerful and emotional read that kept me completely engaged. I loved how the story explored the complicated bonds between mothers and daughters, with secrets that added real suspense. The characters felt authentic and deeply flawed, making the drama feel so believable. It was a thought-provoking, gripping story that stayed with me long after I finished.

I really enjoy Kimberly McCreight's storytelling. Like Mother, Like Daughter had elements that typically work for me, such as the missing person trope and insight into the law. However, this one was ultimately forgettable and not one of her best. I will continue to read more from her in the future because I think she's a great writer, but it fell short in my opinion.

Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced copy of Like Mother, Like Daughter in exchange for an honest review.

This emotional thriller hooked me from the very first chapter. When Cleo returns home to find her mother, Kat, missing and a bloody shoe under the couch, the tension ratchets up immediately—and doesn’t let go. What unfolds is a dual timeline journey between mother and daughter, uncovering secrets, lies, and a fierce determination to protect one another, even from the darkest truths.

Cleo and Kat are opposites in so many ways, yet their bond—strained, complicated, but deeply rooted—felt authentic. The way McCreight reveals Kat’s past life and the hidden skills she’s carried into adulthood (including her sharp instincts as a fixer) adds a gripping layer of suspense. I especially appreciated how the novel explores the fictions we build around the people we love—and what happens when those stories start to crack.

There were moments where the pacing slowed, but the twist near the end genuinely surprised me, and I always consider that a bonus in a thriller. It left me reflecting on the characters long after I turned the last page.

If you enjoy thrillers with emotional depth and complex mother-daughter dynamics, this is worth picking up.

Like Mother, Like Daughter has layer upon layer, countless potential suspects and red herrings interwoven into the plot, and so much more that lies beneath the surface, reminiscent of real life. Muddied motivations, secrets from the past we’d rather keep hidden, misunderstandings and occasional poor choices…life is complicated, and this thriller showcases that in a very authentic way. Like Mother, Like Daughter has compelling, credible characters with a depth that makes them people you can’t help but feel for, all embedded within a suspenseful, enthralling plot. I loved it, thoroughly enjoyed my time with this book, and look forward to more from this author.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advance copy of Like Mother, Like Daughter by Kimberly McCreight in exchange for my honest review and opinion. OMG I LOVED this book! The writing style was absolutely fantastic and kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. You absolutely need to read this the first opportunity you have. As always, Kimberly McCreight is at the top of my favorite author list from book to book!

I felt like there was a lot going on in this book, from Kat's marriage falling apart to Cleo, the daughter, having issues due to her drug dealer boyfriend then Kat is having an affair and that guy ends up dead probably because of some shady business dealings. It was a lot! I didn't really care for any of these characters, especially Cleo and the ending left something to be desired. Overall, I do feel this was an ok, fast paced thriller

Like Mother, Like Daughter is a thrilling novel of emotional suspense that questions the damaging fictions we cling to and the hard truths we avoid. Above all, it’s a love story between a mother and a daughter, each determined to save the other before it’s too late.

A tightly woven thriller that grips you with its clever plot and escalating tension. The characters are well-developed, their motivations adding layers to the suspense. Every twist feels fresh and unpredictable, keeping the pages turning fast. It’s a masterful story that thrills and surprises until the very last line.

This book truly had me guessing until the very end! I thought I had it figured out but I was way off. I really love fast paced thrillers so this book did a great job at that. It was a really fun read and I would 100% recommend to anyone who enjoys reading thrillers. I also enjoyed the dormant this book was written in, will definitely read more from this author!

This book had me intrigued right away. I enjoyed the fast paced nature and messy family dynamics but it felt like there was too much happening at time for the plot to be meaningful. While I’m not typically a fan of psychological thrillers, I found myself continuing to pick up the story to find out more about Cleo and Katrina.

Like Mother, Like Daughter kept me on the edge of my seat, at times, and rolling my eyes because of the obvious plot twists at others. I loved the mother daughter relationship bond and was intrigued with how this progressed throughout. But, I also easily predicted the background around her Mom's kidnapping and wanted more "oh snap" moments the last half of the read. While not the best by McCreight, I would recommend for someone wanting a quicker paced thriller.

I thought this was an average thriller. I loved the dual narration, as well as the mixed media. However, the secondary aspect of the pharmaceutical company really lost me. I understand the purpose of it, to move the plot along and add in the extra suspense, but it would get convoluted and confusing at points. Overall just 3 stars. Nothing great, nothing bad.

This story was amazing! The twists that just continued to come until the very end were brilliant. I never would have guessed the ending which proves how well written this was by Kimberly McCreight.

Thank you to NetGalley and Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor for this copy. I should have read this much sooner than I did because it’s one I’ll never forget.

I love a domestic thriller! There was such a complicated relationship with mother and daughter which added so much to this book! I also felt that the twists were twisting in this book! Recommend!

I really liked Like Mother, Like Daughter. It had me hooked early on and I couldn't foresee the twists, which is always a plus. Being able to see from two viewpoints on the same issues (overbearing mother, independent daughter) was interesting and you couldn't help but side with both while also being annoyed with them at the same time. This is my second read from Kimberly McCreight and I am definitely reading her other books when I get my hands on them.
