Like Mother, Like Daughter was a wild ride and I am here for it! I was in the mood for a fast paced thriller and this one did not disappoint. I went into it fairly blind and I highly recommend doing that. I have only read one other book by Kimberly McCreight but I will be adding her to my tbr in the future!

If you are looking for a fast paced, psychological, multi-POV thriller I cannot recommend Like Mother, Like Daughter enough!

Kimberly McCreight does it again. In "Like Mother Like Daughter," McCreight weaves a gripping narrative that delves deep into the complexities of mother-daughter relationships. Through alternating perspectives, she masterfully explores the nuances of familial bonds, secrets, and the enduring quest for truth.

The story unfolds with a compelling blend of suspense and emotional depth, drawing readers into the lives of Kat and her daughter, Cleo. As they navigate the aftermath of a shocking event, their journey unravels layers of deception and uncovers buried secrets, challenging their perceptions of love, loyalty, and identity.

McCreight's writing is immersive, capturing the intricacies of human emotion with empathy. The characters are flawlessly crafted, each carrying their own burdens and vulnerabilities, yet bound together by an unbreakable bond. As a mother myself, I felt pulled into Kat's story and the lengths we will go to protect our children, and yet, as a daughter, I felt pulled into Cleo's story and how what feels like overprotection can push us away. I was torn between how much I related to both mother and daughter, and McCreight wrote in such a way that you found ways to relate to each character.

At its core, "Like Mother Like Daughter" is a thought-provoking exploration of the ties that bind us and the lengths we'll go to protect the ones we love. It will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end---I definitely recommend!

Thank you so much to Alfred A. Knopf Publishing and Netgalley for this advanced reader copy of Like Mother, Like Daughter by Kimberly McCreight.

McCreight is know for her smart, domestic suspense novels set in her hometown of Park Slope. In this story Cleo’s mother, Katrina, who she shares a difficult relationship with, has disappeared from the family home. Foul play is suspected, and the more Cleo digs into her mother’s disappearance, the more she realizes how little she actually knew about her life.

There is A LOT happening in this story. I actually really enjoyed the main mystery (especially the ending), but there was a second and even third mystery in the novel they really muddied things up with too many side characters. I think I’ve really come to appreciate simplicity in this genre, and you won’t find that here.

This novel publishes July 9, 2014.

This book started off slowly. I thought it was a bit jumbled at first. I struggled trying to figure out who was connected to who. Once it got going, it got better, although it remained slightly muddled. The boyfriend character, Kyle, was an interesting twist that was designed to keep you thinking about him as the "boyfriend" the police wanted to discuss.

This the first book I read from Kimberly McCreight. I read this through NetGally and I am glad I requested this. I loved this book. It was so well thought out and expertly written. The main mystery was great but the complexity if a mother daughter relationship was so well explored.

Things were complicated through the entire book and the way the daughter starts to find out who her mother is, was so captivating. There were moments when you understood the daughter and there were moments you understood and stood with the mom. So so good.

The murder mystery kept twisting and turning and I loved it. There were moments I was convinced I knew who it was or what happened and only to find out sometimes I was half right. So many shocking turns I did not see coming but they were done so well, there were zero eye rolls. I didn't feel like things where solved with a pretty little bow but it was satisfying. Things were messy and all the way to the end and I loved it because that's how life is. Will be picking up more books from this author.

Like Mother, Like Daughter is told in different timelines, one pov, follows Cleo in real time, looking for her mother, and the other pov follows Kat in the time leading up to her disappearance. I liked the book, but during the second half of the book it got hard to keep track of characters.

Like Mother Like Daughter was a very fast paced novel and I really enjoyed it. Right off the bat, it pulled me in and had me guessing all throughout to the very end. I was able to guess the plot twist but nevertheless, it was enjoyable! I gave it four stars.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read and review the book!

I really enjoyed this book, despite in being 3 stars. I almost gave it 4, but I had read a book right before this with a similar plot line in the legal/medicine front. I also picked up on a twist before the end of the book, which I normally don’t. I really liked Cleo. She was always fighting for her mom, even when they weren’t on good terms. Aidan is a real shitbag though.

I haven't read a Kimberly McCreight book in a long time and was looking forward to this one. A compelling read that was a total page-turner. Really like how McCreight captures mother-and-daughter relationships. Looking forward to her next book.

I genuinely liked this book! It was quite the page turner, and I found myself finishing it mostly in one sitting. I felt like it wrapped up a little too quickly, but it was still good! There were a lot of F bombs but not many other expletives. There was a spicy scene, but it was not graphic. Very much a YA book. Thank you to NetGalley and Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor for the ARC.

After an underwhelming With Friends Like These, Kimberly McCreight is back in fine form with Like Mother, Like Daughter. The book starts with Katrina missing when her daughter Cleo shows up to have dinner with her, and then alternates back and forth between Katrina leading up to her disappearance and Cleo trying to find out what happened to her after her disappearance. It quickly becomes apparent that Katrina has a lot of enemies and a past that's coming back to haunt her. In addition to a manipulative and needy soon-to-be ex-husband, her job as a fixer is another potential reason for her disappearance, especially since in her role as fixer for her law firm, the managing partner asks her to look into a man who recently died that she was seeing as the culprit in a pharmaceutical company that knowingly ignored adverse effects of a medication that is at the center of a multimillion dollar lawsuit. Cleo is not free from problems either. Her ex-boyfriend is a drug dealer that's threatening her despite Katrina using her connections from over the years to keep Kyle away from Cleo. Between the two women, there's plenty of people that could have wished Katrina harm, which is what makes the book interesting. Katrina is receiving threatening texts prior to her disappearance, but the culprit could be multiple people - someone from the girls' home she lived in, her husband, the pharmaceutical company. It doesn't go into quite as much detail as I would like, but as Cleo tries to find her mother she begins to reevaluate the contentious relationship she has with her mom, one that she often viewed differently at the time than she does upon reflection. In the end, the culprit might not be who you're expecting, but it also ties in nicely to the two women in a way that makes sense. A complimentary copy of the book was provided by the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Kimberly McCreight has this way of perfectly encapsulating complicated mother and teenage daughter relationships. The ups and downs, the highs and lows (a lot of lows) are a theme for at least a couple of her books.

In LIKE MOTHER, LIKE DAUGHTER, the mom is the one who is in danger. She goes missing. The daughter, an unappreciative young adult, comes to realize her mom actually loved her more than she ever thought.

What was fun about this story was the fact that the mom was a ... fixer. Ah, I loved this profession for her.

The gray areas she faced daily in her job put so much pressure on her and it reflected in her little family. I just thought it was such a unique profession for a female character.

Thank you NetGalley and Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage and Anchor for an e-copy of LIKE MOTHER, LIKE DAUGHTER to review.

I rate LIKE MOTHER, LIKE DAUGHTER, four out of five stars.

All mother-daughter relationships have highs and lows… but when a mother goes missing, her estranged daughter will do anything to help solve the mystery, even if it means putting herself in danger. It was fast-paced and a quick read. I didn’t feel complete closure with the ending, but enjoyed the story nonetheless.

3.5 stars rounded up. Cleo comes home from college to meet her mother, Kay, for dinner, only to find her shoe in a pool of blood, dinner burning, and her mother missing. The story is told in 2 perspectives- Cleo and Kat - and 2 different timelines - Cleo searching for Kat and Kat’s movements in the days leading up to when she disappeared. There are multiple avenues that could explain what happened to Kat but some are red herrings. Overall the story is quick paced and keeps you guessing throughout.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc.

I really enjoyed the twist at the end of this thriller. The first half of the book was intriguing and at times the second half was a bit convoluted with a lot of characters to keep track of, however I ultimately found the book interesting and was satisfied by the ending.

Cleo is desperate to find her mother after Kat mysteriously vanishes from her Brooklyn home. In her search, Cleo finds that her mother is a fixer, was keeping a lot of secrets, and had plenty of enemies. Cleo has secrets of her own.

Like Mother, Like Daughter is told in alternating timelines: part follows Cleo in real time, looking for her mother, and part follows Kat in the time leading up to her disappearance. Kat’s character reminded me of Olivia Pope from Scandal, fixing wealthy people’s problems/working in a morally grey area. Cleo seems to have had her share of acting out type of issues, and her mother is worried about her.. I really enjoyed the mystery of this thriller. I felt multiple times that I was just on the cusp of connecting the dots, keeping me full of anticipation for what the end would be. Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this in advance.

I have loved Kimberly McCreight since The Night Olivia Fell. I have genuinely loved all of her work.

In LIKE MOTHER, LIKE DAUGHTER Kimberly McCreight weaves a story of a mother that goes missing and the daughter trying to find out what happened to her. Along the way there are quite a few secrets that are revealed about her mom but then secrets are revealed about her as well.

I loved how we were able to see the relationship between mother and daughter and how well Kimberly McCreight wrote about the dynamics between mothers and daughters. It was very relatable.

I found myself NEEDING to know what happened and really I had no idea how it would end up.

Absolutely amazing writing with a well developed plot and very deep and well-developed characters.

Thank you to Netgalley, and the publisher for this ARC!

When Cleo, a college student arrives home to talk to her mom, Kat, she doesn’t find her but finds blood on the floor food burning. Kat is the opposite of her daughter and they are not very close anymore. She is not only a lawyer but the fixer of her company. She grew up in a group home and had to stick up for herself much of the time. The days before she disappeared there were many threats facing Kat including money from her soon to be ex, information about her daughter and her previous relationship and an anonymous threat from her past…and Cleo doesn’t know a thing.

There was A LOT going on. Honestly, too much, it was hard to keep track of what was all happening. Between the chapters there were parts of a transcript, notes from a therapist, emails, texts, etc…just a lot going on. I loved the dual POVs. I also enjoyed the last 10% of the book plus the twist at the end. There is nothing good or bad about this book, just wasn’t for me.

Thank you to Netgalley and the author for an advanced copy of this book in exhcange for an honest review.
