This was one of my favorite thrillers of 2023 (so I’ll be recommending it like crazy when it officially comes in July of 2024)! This twisty story is one that takes you down many paths and through a variety of characters, but none are “throwaway” plot lines or characters, as McCreight artfully weaves them all together.

This book is told in alternating POVs between a mother and daughter with a strained relationship, as well as alternating timelines, leading up to and after the mother goes missing. It’s interesting reading the mother’s side leading up to her disappearance and the daughter’s perspective as she slowly unravels an intricate side to her mother she never knew existed as she attempts to get to the bottom of her mother’s disappearance.

Even though I predicted some of the twists and turns, it kept me guessing until the end! This is a fast page-turner that I definitely recommend. I’ve never read any of McCreight’s previous works but can’t wait to turn to those after flying through this one!

I love a book that hooks me from the beginning and keeps me guessing all the way through. Even if I did suspect who was involved early on Kimberly McCreight's Like Mother, Like Daughter gave me just enough to keep me guessing and with so many suspects you couldn't be sure who to trust.
Cleo and her Mother are at odds over Cleo's boyfriend, a drug dealer who has been turning their lives upside down. Kat asks Cleo to come by to discuss something important, but when she shows up to find her mother missing and blood left behind Cleo begins to see that her Mother's picture perfect life may be far from it. Is her ex involved? an unhappy client? Something from her past? Cleo's world begins to unravel as she begins to question everything she knows about her Mother.
I loved the mystery, with different timelines and multiple suspects that will have you questioning everything and everyone. I couldn't put it down. I will say that while I love all thing murder/mystery/thriller/romance I am not much for spicy books. While this book wasn't what I would call spicy, there was one intimate scene that left me annoyed. Not because it was too much or too dark like some others but really the description of it was just kind of lame. Fade to black is all I'm saying, allude to it and move on, I'm fine with that, prefer it even.
This book gave you so much to sift through, plenty of suspects, and so many different ways this could go, I loved every minute of it

Thank you to Alfred A. Knopf and NetGalley for the advanced copy!

In this book, a daughter worked to uncover layers of secrets, history, and plot twists to solve her mother’s disappearance.

I appreciated the complexity of the relationships in this story, especially the parent-child relationships.

The pacing helped build suspense. I was struck by the density of character introductions at the start of the book, but there was a lot of content to get to, so I get it.

I was able to predict the major twist in the book quite a bit before it happened, but honestly, I still liked it.

Thank you to all parties included for giving me the opportunity to read and review this ARC. This book had me guessing from the beginning without a doubt. It took my two tries before I could fully emerge myself into the story. The characters being thrown in made the story very difficult to navigate at times. There were so many characters and at times they way they would be introduced to the story would confuse me as they added nothing to the plot. This made this a hard read as it was just hard to retain so much information in the fashion it was being given to me. My interest in the plot over all is what kept me until the end. The character also felt a bit cliche but the ending was unexpected as I expected the mother to be dead. This was my first read by Kimberly McCreight and I would be hesitant to try another. 3.5 starts rounded up.

Thanks to Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor and NetGalley for the ARC and the opportunity to read and review this title.
I really hate when I can guess suspense novels in the beginning but this was a change. McCreight was dropping details and clues throughout the novel, it was the right pace and did not know the outcome until the last pages. I thoroughly enjoyed the well-written narrative with engaging characters. A compelling read that left me both satisfied and yearning for more twists and turns. I loved the pace of the book and it kept me guessing from the first page right up to the last.

I loved the twisty mystery of what happened in this book! Murder mysteries are so fun to read so you can uncover facts and clues along with the characters to find out what happened. This book had me guessing from the beginning. So many twists and turns. I never knew what was coming around each page and I loved it!!

This book had good intent and the twist was good, I just felt like the book felt very slow to me. There wasn’t a lot of action or suspense like I have found in the authors other books. Overall 3 stars for me.

This was my first read by Kimberly McCreight, and you can rest assured I'll be picking up her backlist. Like Mother, Like Daughter was dark and brilliant and haunting -- and I loved it all. While dealing with some very delicate themes (sexual assault of a minor, for example), the book's pace is unbeatable throughout. Read in two sittings over the course of 24 hours.

This book was very difficult to navigate at times. There were so many characters and storylines to keep up with. The ending fell short for me.

This is my favorite author. I have read every book and feel she has some of the most believable thrillers. Yet again Kimberly Mc Creight kept me engaged in a propulsive story of mystery - a young girl trying to find her mother, a mother with a questionable past, and a dubious father/soon to be ex husband.

While this novel was easy to solve and had less surprising twists - the writing still kept me engaged and there was just enough confusion to never be sure if you were correct until the very end.

"Like Mother Like Daughter by Kimberly McCreight is a gripping thriller that held me hostage past my bedtime—each chapter urging me for just one more. The storyline took unexpected twists, keeping me guessing until the satisfying end. If anything, I wished for more, as I thoroughly enjoyed the well-written narrative and engaging characters. A compelling read that left me both satisfied and yearning for more twists and turns."

This book was so fun! I blasted through it once I really got going and loved all of the twists and turns it took, as well as how the author brought together all of these different story lines into a way that made sense and kept you guessing. The red herrings were well placed and not at all frustrating, and there was only one big question I had at the end that really doesn’t matter. I also loved the characterization and the exploration of the mother daughter relationship. As a mom to 3 girls with a mom of her own, this hit home. Great thriller!

This book is a solid 4/5 stars. I loved the story and all the interesting details; however, it was a bit hard to follow at times. That is the reasoning for the 4 stars instead of 5. There were times where I needed to flip back a few pages to remember what POV I was reading or when in the timeline parts fell.

HOWEVER, I genuinely enjoyed reading this book and I did love the way the author used other methods to put details into the story, such as reddit posts or text messages. I love the way the stories intertwined and I really love the way the book ended. It was just the right amount of suspense and mystery. I loved the way friends/people in Kat's life helped Cleo with the mystery. Some of the roughest characters turning out to be your favorite!

I would absolutely recommend this book to friends and family and look forward to reading other works from this author.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kimberly McCreight for allowing me to read an advanced readers copy of this book.

What. A. Ride!! It felt like a lot going on at the same time but the story was woven together nicely. I definitely didn’t see the ending coming. I stood in the same place with my iPad in my hands reading the last 20% of the book as quickly as I could!

Kimberly McCreight is a new author for me. Full disclaimer – this is set to come out July 2024 and this will make a fabulous beach read. I am a thriller, suspense girl so this was right up my alley. Kat and Cleo, our mother daughter pair, are polar opposites. Kat is controlling and structured and way over the top with trying to be the best at everything. Cleo is a typical young adult, rebelling every chance she gets and has her heels dug in trying to NOT be controlled. So I guess they are both very hard headed. Kat, who grew up in an orphanage until the age of 14, is a very successful attorney, but not the kind of attorney everyone things. Cleo is in college and is hiding plenty of secrets from her family. Aiden, her dad and Kat’s husband is a filmmaker who cant seem to be around – more secrets. I love how there are snippets from texts and therapy and a legal matter that Kat’s lawfirm are in. This will keep you engaged and turning the page. There are a lot of players in this game, so be prepared for that. But they all come together and they have an important part. Put this one on your calendars for publication day. A must read!

Book: Like Mother, Like Daughter
Author: Kimberly McCreight
Publisher: Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage and Anchor
Pub Date: July 9, 2024

Wow. There is so much going on. 🤯 I just found it difficult to keep up with everything going on. I’m sure some of it was to throw the reader off the trail of what the ending was going to be. I enjoyed the mother/daughter story line but could have done without the pharmaceutical aspect of the story. The family plot should have been the only one dug. I was on information overload and it made me lose interest very quickly. The ending just came out of nowhere and gosh I don’t like that at all. It can ruin a good book quick for me. There were just too many things that were far fetched for me to give it a higher rating. That said Kimberly McCreight is an excellent author and I stuck with 3 stars because my pet peeves might be your fav things.

Thank you Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage and Anchor and NetGalley for this sneak peak! Publication date is July 9, 2024.

“Maybe in the end that was the most important part of being a mother: being there to do the expected thing again, and again.”

“For so much of my life, I wanted to believe that I was fine because I had survived. But surviving, I have come to realize, is not the same as being alive.”

Damn. Like Mother, Like Daughter was *so* good. There was never a dull moment. It encapsulated everything that makes a good thriller. It hit the ground running from the start, with cleverly laid clues to guide you into figuring out whodunit. There was a depth to this book that I found endearing; a portrait of motherhood, and what it means when they say that a mother would do anything for her child. Kimberly McCreight will continue to be an auto-read author for me, because her skill gets stronger with each novel.

I am struggling to decide how I feel about "Like Mother, Like Daughter". My rating is probably 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

The writing is engaging and I found myself immediately interested in the story. The story is told from the perspective of the mother who has vanished and the daugher who is trying to find her.
There are also therapist notes, journal entries, text message strings, and legal case notes peppered in. At times it felt like it was too much information and ended up being distracting rather than helping to illuminate the story.

There are also several different plot tlines and way too many characters. It was difficult to follow all the different tangents and several of them did not feel entirely necessary.

Some parts of the story I was able to guess and then other parts I did not figure out until it was revealed. The end was a let down for me and didn't seem to unfold naturally from the story.

Overall, Like Mother, like Daughter is well written and engaing. If you like psychological thrillers there is lots of enjoy in this book. In general I liked it I just wasn't blown away by it.

Thanks to Netgalley and the published for allowing me an advanced copy (ARC) of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley, Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor, & Kimberly McCreight for an advance copy of Like Mother, Like Daughter in exchange for an honest review. KC is an auto read author for me and once again, she did not disappoint! This book brings all the best aspects of a page turning suspense thriller to life! I found myself completely immersed in the storyline and I found dynamics of Cleo & Kats relationship to be so relatable. The addition of the other characters brought so much life and juiciness to the story. This will be a PERFECT beach read this summer as this one comes out on 7/9/24!!

As always, I cannot wait to see what this author writes for us next!
