A very long winded book which at times had me eager to read on and other times left me frustrated. I guessed who pushed Jessica in very early on and could see where the story was going. I could not put this book down and had to finish it once I started. very gripping and well written with great characters

This book has a past and present timeline. This was being like on a rollercoaster , so many twists and turns. My first book by this author and wont be my last.

I really enjoyed this book! It had enough mystery to it that I definitely kept wanting to come back to find out what the heck was going on! At first I wasn't sure I would be able to get into it, but it didn't take long for me to be hooked! I will say the twist at the very end didn't totally shock me, but I certainly did not want it to end the way it did! Will definitely recommend this book!

One last Breath is a story about love, dedication, promises, and passion.
Jessie will stop at nothing to track down the person who killed her best friend and help the man get out of prison who was convicted.
She has many enemies from helping Connor get released from prison but never in her dreams did she think she would be the next target.


This story is a good story that will keep you interested throughout the book. I gave three stars because there were a few things that I felt could have been played on that wasn’t. Still a good read.

I enjoyed this book. I found that the storyline was compelling to read and enjoyed the few plot twists (even though I had seen them all coming!)

Jessie wakes up at the bottom of a well. The same well that her lifeless best friend was found, 15 years prior. Jessie had returned to her hometown to investigate a murder. The circumstances surrounding the murder sounded very similar to those of her best friend. However, it looks like Jessie's reappearance has placed a huge target on her back...

The book alternates between Jessie trying to escape the well and the week leading up to her being in the well. We learn that Jessie made a documentary on her best friend's death, which ultimately freed the suspect - a former friend of Jessie's who was wrongly put behind bars;

This book felt very long-winded for me (pun not intended, haha); Some parts were REALLY dragged out and had way too much unnecessary detail. This novel could have been accomplished in a lot less pages and been far more effective and enjoyable. I found myself skimming some pages, because I simply did not care about the details. It was things that were not even relevant to the plot.

I also managed to figure out "whodunit" somewhat early on, so it took away some excitement from the book. It was just way too obvious!

This is a well written book with interesting characters and a unique storyline. The characters are well developed and I was so invested in the story I had hard time putting this down! The past and present POV's is amazing. It keeps you on your toes around every twist and turn. It was my first time reading a novel by PS Cunliffe and I can say for sure that I would definitely read more works by them.

For me it's rare when a "full circle" type thriller is actually enjoyable. One Last Breath is a very well paced, twisty, and sometimes just downright terrifying read. The flashbacks were crucial to the story and it gripped me from the very first page. I felt I couldn't trust a lot of the characters, which made for a suspenseful read. Highly recommend!

I really liked this book! As the story goes I’d have to give that 4 stars. I did have lots of formatting issues that I hope will be fixed before release. There was spaces where it wasn’t needed and some parts were hard to read because of the formatting. I did like the story and I sort of guessed the ending but it didn’t take away from the enjoyment of the book.

Well paced, smart, twisty story flashing from today to fifteen years prior. I really enjoyed this story, and had an inkling about one reveal, but another reveal was a surprise.

As soon as I started reading One Last Breath, I was instantly gripped. The novel opens with a woman climbing out of a well, only to be pushed back in.

We soon discover that the woman is thirty-two-year-old Jessie, a true crime documentary maker, whose friend Amy was found dead in the same well back when they were teenagers. Her documentary on Amy's murder ended up getting Amy's boyfriend at the time, Connor, released from prison as it was proven that he did not kill her.

Jessie is now back in her hometown with five-year-old daughter Freya to visit her father. Only there has been another murder. This time of a teenage boy and Jessie is convinced that Evan's death is related to Amy's, even though they are so unalike. Against advice of the police, she starts doing her own investigating which, as we know, does not end well for her.

The story is told in flashbacks of the days counting down to Jessie coming to be in the well, her being in the well and her husband Martin in the early hours of the morning rushing to get to his father-in-law's house. It has bit of mixed media too, with transcripts from some episodes of Jessie's documentary, Born Killer.

There are so many characters in this book and I felt like I trusted none of them, convinced each of them were responsible at different points. The urgency that I want from a thriller is there and it is very clever. There are so gross depictions of injuries that had me grimacing and you really feel the claustrophobia of Jessie being trapped in the well. This is a very entertaining thriller!

Now another person has been found dead in the well so she returns to her hometown to investigate and finds herself trapped in the same well.

3.5 stars.

This book starts with Jessie in the well and the chapters alternate between the time leading up to the present and the present so how she ended up in the well is not known until the end. I generally don’t like books where people are hostages or are trapped because I find that boring. I thought Jessie’s time in the well was boring but the chapters leading up to that point were fairly interesting. This one took awhile for me to get into though. It was a well written book. I think I would read more from this author if the subject matter wasn’t revolving around a trapped person.

This book had more twists and turns then a back country road, and I loved it.
Told from multiple viewpoints, and past/present timelines this story will keep you guessing right up to the last page.
A solid 4 🌟 stars from me.

This was a really enjoyable read with a great storyline... BUT...

I wish the author didn't give as many hints and left the suspense to build up naturally, because it would have. The hints ended up making it all too obvious for my liking. Inwanted those fantastic, stunning twists but was left with a sort of 'yeah I knew that's feeling.

Jessie is on the hunt doe the truth. Who killed her best friend Amy 15 years ago, in their hometown of Westhaven? Jessie is now a documentary filmmaker and when she hears of another murder, similar to that of Amy's, she knows she has to go back.

Five days in her world as she knows it is now all on the line, can she keep it together for Freya, her 5 year old daughter?

Told from 2 POVs, mainly Jessie but interspersed with her husband Martin and with transcripts from Jessie's documentary
"Born Killer", in all honesty I think the transcripts weren't overly necessary, they confused me mainly.

Whilst it didnt grab me fully, it was a decent enough read that lacked the suspense I was hoping for.

An excellent thriller which grabs you from the start and doesn't let you go till the end. An excellent cast of characters and different POV's which the writer handles very well so it doesn't get confusing. Loved it. Thanks to Embla and Netgalley for this review copy.

White knuckles from the very first page and the tension does not let up! The author does an incredible job of presenting multiple voices and perspectives without being confusing, and the complexity of the cast of characters means this is no small feat. Excellent dialogue and meaningful cultural references place the reader firmly at the centre of this.
