Geneva Rose always crafts stories that you think you know the ending to UNTIL you get to the ending. Another perfectly paced mind blowing thriller! I gasped, I laughed, I saw myself with the characters, it was a beautiful read.

Beth, Nicole and Michael Thomas were siblings. Their mother, Laura, had passed away. Their father, Brian, had disappeared. Nicole was a drug addict. And Michael had left home for California 7 years prior. Beth was the one left to care for their mother. She was the only one present when she passed away. But Michael was on his way home. He arrived hours after his mom died. By then, Nicole had been on methadone and had 29 days of sobriety. So all three siblings were at the house.

A little girl named Emma had vanished 20 years prior. The whole small town had searched for her to no avail. And then Beth, Nicole and Michael found a VCR tape that their mother had recorded. In it, their parents were standing over Emma's body and they knew their parents had gotten rid of the body. Eventually, Charles Gallagher admitted to killing her. He went to prison but was acquitted when Emma's bike turned up. And then he disappeared. And then Christy Roberts went missing. The siblings wondered if their parents had anything to do with these disappearances.

Beth believed that Emma's body was somewhere on their property. So one rainy day, she took a shovel and started digging where she found grave markers. What she found practically undid her.

Her mother had left her a key to a safety deposit box. Nicole took that key and went to retrieve the contents. In it she found that her mother had written Beth a letter explaining everything that she had taken to her grave.

This mystery was very well written. I found the characters believable and the plot kept me coming back for more. Near the end, it was a nail biter. Michael got shot but he survived. When the truth came out, justice was served. I gave this book five stars.

Fast paced and hard to put down, Home is Where the Bodies Are literally had me trying to guess the twists the ENTIRE time. I finished it in less than 24 hours and love a book that compels you to pick it up!

Beth is home with her ailing mother, awaiting her impending death from cancer. Her siblings, Michael and Nicole, are not around despite having been called multiple times. They are estranged and Nicole is an addict that Beth cut out of her life a year ago.

Beth is the only one there when her mother speaks her last words. "Your father didn't disappear. Don't. Trust. ..."
What?? What could her mother be talking about? Her father has been gone 7 years and they haven't heard from him since. He left a note saying he was sorry and the police found his car near the Mexican border and stopped looking.

The twists continue from here, as Nicole and Michael return home to deal with their mother's affairs. Each of them has been left a letter to read after the funeral and Beth has been left a key to a safe deposit box, though none of them can guess what she kept in there.

As they go through old videos from their childhood, one of the tapes reveals something they could never have anticipated and it changes everything.

Jeneva Rose is great at writing twists and I thoroughly enjoyed this one! Thank you to netgalley for an eARC to review.

A solid effort. Though parts were a touch rushed, this is satisfying overall and occasionally slightly funny.

This was sooo so good. This is quite possibly my favourite from Jeneva Rose, I could NOT put it down. It’s a story of how far would you really go for your family and the emotional turmoil that comes along with family secrets.

Many thanks to @blackstonepublishing and @netgalley for my #gifted copies. Pub date 4/30/24.

June 15, 1999 is the day so many lives change in the small town of Allen's Grove, Wisconsin.

Estranged siblings Beth, Nicole, and Michael are reunited at their family home when their mother passes away. While they are going through the attic, they come across a box full of VHS tapes. They watch the first one labeled "June 15, 1999" and are completely shocked at what they see.

The alternating POV'S between the 3 siblings and their mother Laura was done perfectly. I love nothing more than a slow burn thriller that has you guessing and second-guessing yourself multiple times. Rose is an auto buy for me, I don't even need to read the synopsis of her books because I know they will be freaking awesome, and this book is just that!!

Oh, and @Jenevaroseauthor, I read the acknowledgments, and how dare you!!! 🤣

Dare I say this is Jeneva Rose’s best book yet?! And that’s saying a lot because I’ve absolutely LOVED them all. This was one of my top books I’ve read this year for sure! I loved the nostalgia sprinkled throughout and of course the epic cover. I will absolutely be ordering a copy to have on my shelf as well! I thought it was perfectly paced and kept my attention and on the edge of my seat for the entire book. I loved the characters and the multiple POV too. It was full of secrets, tense drama and shocking twists and turns. I would absolutely recommend it to all thriller lovers and is truly a must read for 2024!

Huge thank you to Blackstone Publishing, NetGalley and of course the author for the early digital copy for my honest thoughts!

Something about books with estranged siblings always intrigue me, maybe it is because I am an only child. I love how the author gave each sibling a much different path in life. A daughter who stayed in the small town, a brother who had to get out to bigger and better things, and an addict who is in and out of everyone's life. Yet they have to come back together when their mother dies and they discover a secret that has been kept for years.

I thought the book was well paced and the characters, while not likeable, were relatable. The twist was an immediately apparent which is always a good thing. A quick read for those who enjoy a good mystery/thriller!

Thank you NetGalley for a free e-galley of this book in exchange for an honest review.

"Home Is Where The Bodies Are" by Jeneva Rose is a chilling and gripping thriller that masterfully delves into the dark secrets of a seemingly ordinary family. Rose, acclaimed for her bestselling works like "The Perfect Marriage," once again proves her prowess in crafting a narrative that is both suspenseful and deeply human.

The story unfolds as three estranged siblings, Beth, Nicole, and Michael, reunite in their small Wisconsin hometown to settle their mother's estate. Beth, the caretaker, Nicole, struggling with addiction, and Michael, the absentee brother, find themselves grappling with more than just grief. The discovery of a disturbing home video from 1999, showing their father bloodied and a dead body, sets off a chain of events that forces the siblings to confront a past they never knew existed.

Rose's storytelling is sharp and engaging. She expertly weaves the individual narratives of the siblings, each with their own burdens and secrets, into the larger, sinister mystery of their family's past. The novel excels in building a sense of foreboding and tension, as the siblings' investigation uncovers layers of deception and moral ambiguity.

One of the novel's strengths is its character development. Rose portrays each sibling with depth and nuance, making their struggles and choices feel real and relatable. This emotional grounding adds a compelling layer to the mystery, making the reader invested not just in the unraveling of the family secret, but in the characters' personal journeys as well.

However, some readers might find the plot's reliance on coincidences a tad convenient, and the climax, while thrilling, might seem slightly over-the-top for those preferring more subdued resolutions. Despite these minor criticisms, the novel's fast pace and intriguing plot twists make it a page-turner.

In summary, "Home Is Where The Bodies Are" is a riveting thriller that combines family drama with a dark, twisting mystery. Jeneva Rose has crafted a story that not only keeps readers on the edge of their seats but also touches on the complexities of familial bonds and the weight of the past. It is a recommended read for anyone who loves a good mystery with a healthy dose of psychological depth.

“As we age, we shed layers of ourselves, disintegrating like any other organic material, but some of us just break down faster than other” - From the lips of my dark angel, Jeneva Rose

Well good gosh almighty, I just zipped through this banger and my head is still spinning.

We all know I’ve been girl crushin’ hard on Jeneva Rose, much like the other 101,000 of you that hang on her every word (y’all are my kind of people!)

I was under the impression my shot at this book was slim to none but the book fairies aligned and deemed me worthy.

Home Is Where The Bodies Are

Christmas came a bit early and my shrieks were heard in China when my approval came in.

Now, how do I do this book justice?

Michael, Nicole and Beth…

Reunited by the death of their mother only to uncover some buried family secrets (and bodies)

I was instantly hooked. I had to pee. I needed a glass of water. Rock needed to release himself but it allllllll needed to wait.

As my dog crossed his legs in horror, he knew it would be a bit before that sliding glass door would allow him to enter his oasis.

Sorry Rock

This book IS the book of the year. I have read TWO books this year that exceeded every already high expectation and I have a tear felt plea out there to my girl @jaimelynnhendricks requesting a collab as my dying wish.

Can you picture it? Jaime Lynn and Jeneva, collaborating?!?! Yes, please!!!!!!

Ok back to the book…

Holy mother of oats!!! Am I speechless?

That’s what happens when you get your hands on the work of a literary genius.

This book is dark, twisted and down right mind blowing. As I eagerly devoured every page, I was gut punched over and over with the twists!

My belly is sore but I am one happy little Chiquita Banana.

Check out this teaser :

After their mother passes, three estranged siblings reunite to sort out her estate. Beth, the oldest, never left home. She stayed with her mom, caring for her until the very end. Nicole, the middle child, has been kept at arm's length due to her ongoing battle with a serious drug addiction. Michael, the youngest, lives out of state and hasn't been back to their small Wisconsin town since their father ran out on them seven years before.
While going through their parent's belongings, the siblings stumble upon a collection of home videos and decide to revisit those happier memories. However, the nostalgia is cut short when one of the VHS tapes reveals a night back in 1999 that none of them have any recollection of. On screen, their father appears covered in blood. What follows is a dead body and a pact between their parents to get rid of it, before the video abruptly ends.
Beth, Nicole, and Michael must now decide whether to leave the past in the past or uncover the dark secret their mother took to her grave.

Big thank you to the book fairies at Blackstone Publishing, Jeneva Rose and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read and review this sure to be bestseller in exchange for an honest review.

This was my very first Jeneva Rose book and I definitely enjoyed!! I think the characters were interesting but I sadly could see the twist coming from a mile away. The ending felt a little rushed in my opinion but the pace of the novel was good and it kept my attention. I just wish there would have been more detail.

All in all I did enjoy the book and I look forward to checking out more of Jeneva Rose’s work!

Thank you so much to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for providing me with the digital arc in exchange for my honest review :)

𝑺𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒔 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒔 𝒚𝒐𝒖.

I went into this book thinking I was in for a captivating thriller, but I ended up getting so much more. The plot revolves around three siblings, Beth, Nicole, and Michael, who are somewhat estranged but have to settle their mother's affairs after she dies. While sorting through her belongings, they find a collection of home movies, and hoping for a bit of nostalgia, decide to watch one. But they were not prepared to see their father covered in blood, a dead body, and a whispered pact between husband and wife to get rid of it before the tape abruptly ends. Is it better to leave the past in the past or go digging for answers, especially if that would explain why their father abruptly left their mother seven years prior?

I found myself highlighting so many passages because this book was just as much a portrait of a broken family as it was a thriller. Beth, the oldest, is saddled with the responsibility of being her mother's sole caretaker; burdened by being the one to watch her die. Nicole's character was painful to read about as her struggles with addiction hit very close to home. And Michael, the younger brother, who left their small Wisconsin town after their father disappeared, determined to find the wealth and power that would forever elude him in a small town. The animosity among the siblings was so brilliantly portrayed as was the description of how the world goes on living even when the person who was your everything leaves it.

Even though I guessed the ending, it did not in any way detract from my enjoyment of this masterfully crafted story, and I devoured it in about four hours. Forever grateful to NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for this early read. This title will publish April 30, 2024.
